John Peel - a radio legend

Advantages: Great story, lots of humour

...He was one of our most legendary disc jockeys, not one of those DJ's that rabbled on insistently about things that are absolutely no interest to the listener, but a disc jockey that put the music first. John Peel was if anything quite a reserved character, down to earth & very endearing. I loved his dry wit & although some of the music he played on his late night radio shows left a lot to be desired, he won the hearts & minds of so many listeners over the years. There are many bands & individual artists that would never have made it in the music world if it hadn't been for John Peel, and that includes some household names. He was the latter day 'X' factor all in one, send it your tape recordings & if he thought it had potential it was played on his late night show. From there, who knows? John Legend - Once Again - A masterclass in music

Advantages: A great easy-listening album where every song sounds a classic

...This is the follow up to the extremely successful album 'Get Lifted', and many people were wondering if John Legend could produce something even nearly as good as his first album. Well he's done even better. The album is full of retro music with a fresh modern beat, all embelished by his amazing vocal abililty and song-writing capabilities. The album begins with 'Save Room', the first single and it sets you up for a great album. Advantages: A strong mix of tracks
Disadvantages: Rather predictable

John the Entertaining

Advantages: Very emotional writing
Disadvantages: Quite slow paced

...Up until now, I'd only ever heard of ''John the Revelator'' as a song. Judging from the several mentions of the song in the story and given that author Peter Murphy works in the music press, I suspect that's where the title of this novel came from as well. How much I enjoy the song depends on which version of it I hear, but with no such concerns with the book, I was able to enjoy it fully without worrying if someone had done a better version elsewhere that I was missing out on. John Devine is a teenager stuck in a small Irish town with a single mother, no real friends and a rather worrying fascination for bodily parasites, mostly intestinal worms. ..."Get Lifted" came in 2004 as the debut album from the Soul singer, John Legend. As a G.O.O.D. Music signee, he was able to get the then-up-and-coming star Kanye West to work on much of it to help produce a highly successful first release; which it was. 1. "Prelude" (Intro) 2. Disadvantages: The tracks could have been put in a slightly different order

...On most albums I review, I have to listen to them while I'm typing so as to get an accurate picture of what I need to say, but in this case I have no need to - but, I won't be describing the instrumentals or the structure of the tracks. A friend gave me this album one Christmas, and I honestly can't remember what year she presented it to me, but I was delighted with it. For me it is a comprehensive collection of some of the best of John Lennon's "post-Beatle" songs, though I can think of a couple that could have been squeezed onto the album.
