John Lewis Wedding Service

John Lewis Wedding List
I got married last year and probably one of the most exciting parts (ok marrying the love of my life was pretty exciting too but?..) was the gift list!!
We didn't have to think for very long about where we wanted to go. We had considered Debenhams but they didn't have enough of a range to pick from and we wanted something a bit more upmarket shall we say! So, we decided upon John Lewis as they just have some lovely things in there.
We got married in October so we went into the store in Milton Keynes in about August to set up the list. The list only goes live (this is when people can access it and actually buy you presents) a couple of months before the wedding so there is no point in doing it early. Also, as we were helpfully told, if you pick something very early to put...

Is John Lewis For Me?
Advantages: Classy, different, special.
Disadvantages: Shop assistants tend to be a bit pushy.
...I shopped at John Lewis for my first time, last year. Before I shopped there I had heard various stories and reports of this store. My viewpoint was that this was a posh store, a bit snooty and not really for me.
Let me say, I have only been to a John Lewis store once and mainly shop on-line. John Lewis stores to visit are special shops, quite posh, but you feel good shopping there.
My viewpoints have changed now and although I wouldn't shop at John Lewis all the time for special occasions and gifts it's very good.
I was introduced to John Lewis with a £10 gift voucher off my first order of £20 or more. I bought a lovely vase for my friend, Laura. She was delighted with the quality yet simplicity and style of this vase. There were 3 vases of declining size which, when placed together made a complete looking vase...

John Lewis shopping how it should be
Advantages: Great value, great choice
Disadvantages: Not very many stores!
...John Lewis
As I live and shop quite frequently at John Lewis Cheadle my review here will focus mainly on my experiences of that store although I have shopped at several John Lewis department stores.
About John Lewis.
John Lewis is a large chain of department stores across the UK with the flagship store being Oxford Street in London. The John Lewis partnership also operates the food store Waitrose.
There are three stores in Scotland (Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow), there are four stores in the North of England including Cheadle, Newcastle, Sheffield and Liverpool. A brand new store at the Trafford Centre is opening in May 2005.
In Central England you can find stores in Cambridge, Milton Keynes, Norwich, Nottingham, Solihull and Peterborough.
In the capital you will find stores in Brent Cross, Kingston, Oxford...

John Lewis?...A good Lewis
Advantages: Plenty of consumer choice
Disadvantages: Can sometimes pay a premium
...As I have written about John Lewis before in my Wedding List review I will not write a 4000 word essay, mainly because it will bore you and my fingers will fall off. I am basing all my assumptions on just the stores I have visited (around 4), of which mostly is the one in Milton Keynes.
As with most department stores the shop is huge and you could very easily spend 3-4 hours looking through the entire 3 levels of goods they have to offer. My wife loves to browse everything even if she browsed the same stuff the week before. I have to admit there is something about John Lewis that appeals to me more than most other stores like Debenhams; I think it is because their products all ooze quality.
The Store from the outside looks impressive; the window displays are always well designed and modern to keep up with the times. The John...

John Lewis is my shopping mecca
Advantages: friendliest staff you could meet, well established
Disadvantages: price matching is a bit suspect
...for shopping and shopping in John Lewis.
Now to the pricing.
I wouldn't say I buy everything I need in John Lewis as the pricing policy confuses me slightly. John Lewis is competitive but mainly with other high street stores and their policy of price matching means you have to fill in a form and give them details of where you found the price. So you can't buy an item until they have checked this out. This puts me off, so I have never tried this and do not know how long it can take. Furthermore, John Lewis does not price match with internet, which is reasonable. But the John Lewis internet site does not price match with other internet sites so I find that a bit bemusing!
Also, I wouldn't say I agree with the "Never Knowingly Undersold" blanket quote across the whole of John Lewis John Lewis pricing never exceeds RRP, so if other...

John Lewis's, I wish I was rich!
Advantages: Good stock, classier than Debenhams!
Disadvantages: Not many stores around
...I am getting married in March and have decided to go for a wedding list arrangement so that I don't receive 75 toasters / kettles etc, you get the picture. Also I think that it's nice to actually buy someone something they really want, rather than just crossing your fingers and hoping for the best. There were a number of shops where we could have hosted our list, or indeed we could have hosted our wedding list with a number of different stores through an online agency. We weighed up the pro's and con's of all of the options and the one that floated to the surface screaming 'pick me, pick me' was John Lewis.
*****What's it like then*****
The John Lewis I visited was a Solihull and was only opened in 2001. The store is 3 floors, with an art gallery above that has art for sale through the store. What I really appreciated was that...

John Lewis - Laptop Heaven
Advantages: Fantastic friendly staff, salespeople that aren't on commission, 2 year warranty on laptps
Disadvantages: End up spending too much because I love it there
...Lewis (Cheadle) and was completely ready for the salespeople. In most of the other shops I had been to I was virtually ignored by the male staff so they could concentrate on the 'real' purchasers - men. Being young I was made to feel completely patronised by the sales staff who talked to me as though I was stupid (not the case!).
John Lewis took me completely by surprise; I was on the defensive when ?Gary? came over to speak to me. At that time I didn?t know where to begin because all of the visits to the other shops had just added to my confusion. Gary asked what I wanted the laptop for I said (apart from looking good I am a girl after all!) the internet, word & excel. Based on what I had said and after a long time chatting about them, Gary recommended two laptops the main difference being the operating systems, one was a Mac...

John Lewis JLPA02 - With any indoor aerial reception is an issue.
Advantages: Small, easy to move around the room.
Disadvantages: High price for low build quality.
...My history with indoor based television aerials is not good. Images of trying to hold the aerial perfectly still with one hand, the remote in the other and tuning the freeview receiver all at the same time inevitably spring to mind. Living roughly twenty miles away from the transmitter, the unamplified aerial resurrected from the back of a cupboard gave me extremely grainy picture on terrestrial and only 1 multiplex of channels on digital. For those of you who don?t know, digital TV is broadcast in blocks of channels, called multiplexes. You either get all of the channels in a particular block, or none at all.
It was therefore with some trepidation that I went to John Lewis and was once again bombarded with a selection of indoor aerials, all promising to give me the strongest, cleanest digital TV signal I?d ever seen. I made my choice...

John Lewis Baby Bath Seat.
Advantages: Can be used from birth
Disadvantages: I cant think of one
...John Lewis Baby Bath Seat.
I had been looking for a decent bath seat for my son when he was a new born. Being a first time mum I was extremely nervous about bathing him on my own. I coped for a while with the help of my mum, but I was in desperate need of a baby bath. I needed something light, easy to use and stable. After trying two bath seats which were a complete disaster, I found the answer to my prayers.
I came across the John Lewis bath seat on the internet, but wasn't sure about it as it didn't look very good. But, after reading the benefits, I changed my mind and bought it. I thought £11.99 was pretty good for a bath seat.
I wish I had found the seat earlier because Kane loves it. He likes the freedom of splashing with his hands and legs. He was in the seat at 6 weeks old, as I was going through a variety...
