..., Tom goes down to get him back ignoring the fact that there are bombs dropping all over the place and he is right in the middle of the blitz. The acting in this film is brilliant. The characters build and you start to feel an affinity for them very quickly. There are smiles and tears in this film and these are felt by the viewer too. The best bit for me is when Willie calls Tom Dad. The tears flowed! The DVD has English Subtitles, interactive menus and in-depth-biographies of the characters. All in all this is a nice package but it is nothing new. It would have been better if we had been given more of John Thaw as a person; interviews after the shows, looks into his life, but as it is we just get what was already on the DVDs to start with in their original states. ...I thought John Thaw was one of Britains best actors ever, and l don't think l will ever forget his role in Goodnight Mister Tom. I think l could have watched the whole program just by using the expressions shown through his face and eyes ..... that's how good an actor he was. I don't usually read biographies, they're not really my kind of reading, But one day l was watching the telly when Sheila Hancock was being interviewed (John Thaws wife). She was explaining how someone else had written an unauthorised biography of John Thaw, where some of the facts were not entirely true. Judging from the several mentions of the song in the story and given that author Peter Murphy works in the music press, I suspect that's where the title of this novel came from as well. How much I enjoy the song depends on which version of it I hear, but with no such concerns with the book, I was able to enjoy it fully without worrying if someone had done a better version elsewhere that I was missing out on. Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead

Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. The first is Hancock's writing...The second is John Thaw' Bryan Appleyard, Sunday Times This is the comment on the front cover of the book and I am not usually someone who buys biographies but I was interested in this one especially as it is written by his wife and details both their lives. It was only £3.73 in paperback in Tesco's so I thought why not? I loved the way this was written, the first chapter is entitled The Girl the second The Boy and then chapter by chapter you are taken through every stage in their lives both together and apart.
