John Whoo???

Advantages: Great in places
Disadvantages: Shocking graphics

...John Whoo??? Everyone knows John Woo for his amazing karate films and slow motion fight sequences, but in transforming this into a ps3 game has he managed to pull it off? Well lets find out. Controls Unexpectantly pretty simple. The usual R1 to shoot L2 to cover etc layout but then just an R2 button to enter slow motion. Circle to interact with object etc. It's all pretty basic but when it all comes together it works out really well I think. Graphics The graphics, I'm sorry to say are not worth of being put anywhere near a ps3. When you look at games like "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" or "NBA Live 08", which are aesthetically amazing, this looks like it has been drawn by retarded filipino children at 10p an hour, which I can asure you is not a good thing! Cut scenes are shocking for a next-gen console they could have quite...

Woo soundtrack

Advantages: Some good love songs
Disadvantages: Poor rap tracks

...I Have seen the majority of this film and was one of Jada Pinketts lesser known releases. Its not too bad but again i gambled by buying the soundtrack without hearing any of the tracks but felt that i could find a couple of gems. a couple i did find but overall below average Tracks Woo Woo (Freak Out) - MC Lyte & Nicci Gilbert. Its basically Le freak by chic but a touch slower and with a rap in it. Thats the best way i can describe it Money - Charli Baltimore. The first single Charli Baltimore released and the production was top drawer on this which kind of overshadowed her rap performance. Samples For The Love of Money by the OJays and the big bassline makes this track a classic club anthem Bouncin - Lost Boyz. Straight forward beats and rhymes make this an all round average song. poor chorus Nobody does It better...

FREE DVDs

Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review

...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them. ∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊ Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

John the Entertaining

Advantages: Very emotional writing
Disadvantages: Quite slow paced

...Up until now, I'd only ever heard of ''John the Revelator'' as a song. Judging from the several mentions of the song in the story and given that author Peter Murphy works in the music press, I suspect that's where the title of this novel came from as well. How much I enjoy the song depends on which version of it I hear, but with no such concerns with the book, I was able to enjoy it fully without worrying if someone had done a better version elsewhere that I was missing out on. John Devine is a teenager stuck in a small Irish town with a single mother, no real friends and a rather worrying fascination for bodily parasites, mostly intestinal worms. His only human contact is with his mother Lily, Mrs Nagle, an elderly neighbour and Harry Farrell, a local jack-of-all-trades. His only break from the house and from school is Sunday Mass. Not...

Review of John Lewis (Department Stores)

Shoot, slide, dive, shoot, shoot

Advantages: John Woo, bullet time, non-stop action
Disadvantages: A bit repetitive, prettier games are available

...I like to download demos before I buy a game, and this was one of those that I decided to buy on the strength of the demo. Having seen a few John Woo films in the past, I knew what to expect, intense shootouts, doves, and some beautifully filmed artistry. First impressions are that this is just another run-around third-person shooter, much in the same way as one of the games that revolutionised the genre, Max Payne. This was the first game to really make use of the Bullet Time feature. For a short time you can slow down the action, so that you can make more precise shots, and shoot numerous enemies in one slick move. You have a number of different weapons at your disposal, of which you can normally have two available to switch between. In order to use another weapon found on the floor, you need to drop one of the weapons you...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

John Woo action, but John Woo story

Advantages: John Woo! Great action and effects, good cast
Disadvantages: Simple storyline

...The first Mission Impossible film was received by a mixed audience, some loved its complex, twisting story and explosive style, others didn't like the complex, twisting story and the fast and furious style. Whichever group you fall into, you'll almost certainly like MI:2 better. This time, John Woo enters the scene to create a visually stunning effects-and-action-laden film. Cruise, as ever, gives us a fluid performance, and Ving Rhames makes a return to take the role of techie behing-the-scenes bloke. Gunfights are very well shot, it is John Woo of course, and the 'Woo feeling' just oozes out of every other scene - slow motion walking, doves, the lot. The story, however, is not as exciting as the Mission Impossible's. With no twists or double-crosses, you can't help feeling that they've made this film easier to understand...

John Woo Breaks Wind

Advantages: Some good acting, set pieces, an original idea, talented cast.
Disadvantages: The idea isn't fully realized, poor script, glossy feel, poor directing, battle scenes.

...War films were once made to tell a story of inhuman experiences; to depict the true grim reality of battle. Classics such as ?Hamburger Hill,? ?When Trumpets Fade,? ?Saving Private Ryan? among others express the true immorality and graphic nature of war without exploiting it to make money based on shock value. While one may think with a title like ?Windtalkers? that the inquisitive, philosophical nature of the film would be inevitable, many will find that it's the complete opposite. Expectations will probably not be met with a movie of this nature directed by action-extraordinaire John Woo (?Broken Arrow,? ?Face/Off?) and starring an actor who I have yet to see in a War film. Nicolas Cage is a great actor, although his demeanor, which I suspected, wouldn't fare to well in a movie of this genre. But building upon my statement of films...

The Same John Woo Action Film Again

Advantages: It's fantastically orchastrated action
Disadvantages: it's unoriginal

...I saw this film on DVD last night, I was rather intrigued by the idea when I saw it come out in the cinema. Paycheck is directed by John Woo and was, to my knowledge, a flop at the cinema. I don't think it deserved the harsh treatment it got. However, I do still have many complaints. If you read my reviews, you know I have a little thing about time travel, space, that sort of thing. This is another time travel type movie. ----------------------- The Plot ----------------------- I apologise for not knowing names, I never remember in movies and I'm not one for researching my reviews. I assumed that we wouldn't find out what machine the guy built until the end. But then I remembered they showed it on adverts and thus it wasn't a mystery at all. Basically a guy (Ben Affleck) is some sort of genius engineer. He is often paid...
