...Being a huge fan of Dr. Who, I was thrilled to see a Jon Pertwee biography being released last year, although somewhat bemused. Whereas there is definitely a space in the market for a biography about Patrick Troughton, for example, a book on Jon Pertwee seemed superfluous, as he wrote two autobiographies during his lifetime – ‘Moon Boots And Dinner Suits’ (detailing his early life and career) and the later, excellent, large format book ‘I Am The Doctor’. I was especially surprised to find that the author, Bernard Bale, was known to me, being a friend of my Dad’s. I would therefore love to be able to write a gushing, toe-kissing review on how much I loved this book – but I can’t, because I didn’t. The book itself is rather short, at 246 pages. Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. A Fanfare for Pertwee

Advantages: Credible Storyline, exciting, Jon Pertwee as the Doctor!
Disadvantages: Dated special effects

...AN ICONIC EPISODE: If someone described giant maggots to me and asked me to guess which Doctor over saw this story I would always say Jon Pertwee. Jon Pertwee's Doctor was as flamboyant as ever and so were the storylines but as many of the Pertwee stories glossed over scientific facts and issues this one was bang on with credibility. Where I would say Genesis of the Daleks is the best story to come out of the Tom Baker era, The Green Death by far is Pertwee's fanfare. THE STORY: Jon Pertwee was as many would describe as the 'Earth-bound Doctor' having been exiled there by his piers. As exciting as many of Pertwee's stories were I would always wonder how Earth would attract so much interest from alien life. Jon Bon Jovi goes solo....again

Advantages: good original material
Disadvantages: not the same without richies backup vocals

...Since the fantastic blaze of glory album which was indeed the soundtrack to young guns 2 we haven't seen much of Jon on his own. With the release of this album (Destination Anywhere)came various different film career attempts eg.destination anywhere,Midnight in Chelsea with Whoopi Goldberg and Kevin bacon and Moonlight in Valentino with er....Jon Bon Jovi, all of which seemed to fail miserably, but thankfully the album did not. It was released in the UK in 1997 from polydor records. The tracks were soft rock/pop with a few ballads thrown in for good measure, they seemed very moody and depressing at times. Most of the tracks were written by Jon Bon Jovi, and the lyrics were really heart-renching and meaningfull. Don't get me wrong the album is really good for those long night drives in the rain but not quite up to the standard...

Although the Danish have been accused of playing for a draw with Sweden, I don’t feel this was the case. Every player in the Danish squad wanted to win that game and none more so than Jon Dahl Tomasson. 2002 - A JON ODYSSEY

Advantages: It's not even over yet!
Disadvantages: It's going to be hard to top....but

...love it. I'm very happy with it because there's a nice big living room with HUGE shelves where I can keep videos and DVDs and also as the room is large, the television doesn't dominate it too much (Ruth might disagree with me there!) The only problem will be topping this year! Oh well, I suppose kids, and our own house, and a postdoctral post (fingers crossed) might just do it. P.S. everyone send good thoughts in Ruth's direction as she had a job interview this morning with Blackwell's publishing. If she gets the job, which she really wants, it will make this year even better.
