The Jornada 545 a users opinion

Advantages: Solid, Reliable, Looks Good, built in landscape driver.
Disadvantages: Not as fast as a Compaq Ipaq, Terible Oudoor screen

...This device is Ideal for anyone who need's a tough windows based PDA. I had the choice between the Compaq Ipaq, the Cassiopeia or the Jornada, and finally chose the Jornada. It is slightly lower specced than the other two because it uses a dated SH3 processor, however the reason I chose the Jornada is simply its fantastic form factor. It's the only PPC (Pocket PC) that has a solid screen cover and due to my terrible spatial awareness (OK, OK... Clumsiness) I knew I would be giving it a few knocks. In fact, the device is so tough, I once tripped while carrying a hammer, flung the hammer and watched helplessly as it arced in the air and landed squarely on top of my Jornada. Cringing I opened it up and switched on the screen - It was all working as if nothing had happened. This device is ideal for anyone who needs a PDA for work...

...I've owned this handheld PC for the last 5-6 years after searching for something mobile that could be used "on the go". My initial impressions of this device on opening the box were good; the build quality seemed solid, the display was clear, the sound was of surprisingly good quality for its size and, the unit came pre-loaded with Microsoft Office Lite applications. My intentions for this device were as a substitute for my laptop when luggage space was at a premium. However, I soon found that using the Jornada for anything other than typing very short documents became somewhat frustrating. The main gripe was that the spacebar was very temperamental, often leaving sentences "withoutspaces". This meant that after every couple of lines, I had to go back and insert spaces. My Jornada 540

Advantages: Color Screen, Cheap, Lots of addons
Disadvantages: A bit slow, old OS, hard to find software for, brightness fo screen

...I brought my Jornada as i wanted to run an inexpensive incar MP3 juke box. After hunting around on ebay i managed to get hold of this little beast for £50, with cradle, software powerpack. I thought it was a good enough deal, might have gotten it for a little less but £50 was fine. I was impressed with the color screen, i was a little dubious on how good the quality was going to be, but it looks great/. The only problem i have with it is that if i useit outside the natural light can make the screen a little difficult to see. The main reason i brouhg the Jornada over any of the others on the market was that it hada std CF card slot on it. I needed this for holding my MP3's I brought a 512MB memory card which works wonderfully. I also gt hold of a FM transmitter through ebay and now have this device working as a MP3...

Advantages: Comes with USB Cradle, Serial Lead and PSU. Hard Screen Cover. Outlook 2000.
Disadvantages: Dodgy Screen, Battery, No FLASH ROM

...I bought my HP Jornada 540 from Buy.Com about 2 years ago when they were about £350. It came with a 32MB Memory (was called Jornada 548) and a 24MB Compact Flash Card as part of the bundle. My main use for this device was and still is, synchronising my Inbox and Calendar from Outlook. The device came with a copy of Outlook 2000 included. Secondary uses include use of Word for making notes whilst away from my main computer and the odd game of cards whilst waiting for Trains and Planes. The Jornada, in use, is hardly Pocket PC ? especially not shirt pockets unless they are re-inforced and you don?t mind leaning a bit. It?s a little on the heavy side, however it is quite rugged. ...The Jornada is without doubt the worthiest PDA buy I have seen on the market at the moment. The built in 32Mb memory is among the larger memory sizes avaiable at the moment and even with all of my junk installed I cant seem to put a serious dent in more than a few megs of it. The unit it's self is a little on the heavy side in comparison to the Palm 505 but this gives the unit more of a feel of rigidity (i.e. If you drop it it will break your toes but remain in one piece.) Ergonomically it is a dream to hold,a rubber grip around the edges prevents any slippages while the protective screen flap provied useful protection from glare or bright lights. It has a convenient thumbwheel to the left hand side of the unit which is great when reading e-books or long documents. (not so good if you are left handed though as it is difficult to...

...THIS OPINION IS ABOUT THE JORNADA 720 BECAUSE I COULDN'T FIND THE CATEGORY The HP Jornada is one smart bit of kit - a PDA or palm top, I guess, you'd call it. I got one about a month ago at work and it was a straight choice for me between this and a Palm, but in the end the internet connectivity and the keyboard were what drove me to choose the Jornada and I've not been disappointed. The keyboard is a bit fiddly and my big fingers sometimes get the top two rows of keys mixed up. Also the set does have a nasty habit of falling backwards if you have the top half with the monitor open too far. Those gripes aside, however, I've been very impressed. Most people I know who have opted for handheld or palm tops have opted for iPaqs, and they certainly are nice swish little beasties and eminently cooler than the Jornada series which look quite bulky and old fashioned these days. However, I need to have a machine with a keyboard for my particular uses because I've struggled to come to terms with handwriting recognition and never really quite made it. That said, there is really no other choice but to get a Hewlett Packard Jornada, as it's a decent compromise between the powerful and the compact.
