Advantages: Has a bit of character Disadvantages: Was thrust into the limelight too early
...What a stunning drive in the 2001 Malaysian Grand Prix! Apart from the incident with Eddie Irvine at the start, Jos drove like a man on a mission. At the restart after the dubious safety car period he ran as high as second, and looked as though he was going to put some pressure on David Coulthard. This performance certainly made the decision to get up early to watch the race a good one on reflection. Although there is no magic in F1, and there was always the realisation that it couldn't last and the Arrows would fall back, seeing a shake up at the front was just what F1 needs. This performance was reminisent of the 2000 Canadian GP, run in similar changeable conditions, where Jos was outbraking rivals all over the place. Herein lies the problem; two good performances a year can't justify a seat forever. Having been thrust into F1...

Review of Jos Verstappen
...Why do teams persevere with Jos Verstappen??? After unsuccessful periods at Benetton and Stewart he is back at Arrows. I firmly believe Arrows are going places except with Jos its normally the gravel trap. I must be missing something because year after year, Verstappen gets himself a drive and does nothing. I could drive around in circles for 5 million a year with out scoring points if they want me to. Same as Jos does. I remember that terrible Hockenheim fire he was in. Before that , he had replace the very dodgy JJ Letho who was no good. Jos had shown flashes of brilliance before his car showed flashes of flame in the pits. He seems to have lost his bottle since then....

Review of Jos Verstappen
Advantages: Quite experienced. Good driver in the rain Disadvantages: Not in a potential championship winning team
...It is strange that Holland, a country that has produced great swimmers, cyclists, ice skaters and soccer players, has yet to produce a Formula I great. Some believe that Jos Verstappen the young Dutchman could go on achieve greatness. He is now quite an experienced driver having driven for teams such as Benetton,Tyrell, and Stewart and this season is in the British-based Arrows team.He finally got into the points for Arrow with a fine fifth place at the recent Canadian grand prix at Montreal. It has been a long time since the Dutchman finished in the points, and recently team-mate Pedro De La Rosa has hogged the limelight. However, their rivalry in the likeable Arrows team is probably productive.
Jos is a good driver in rainy conditions and he demonstrated that ability in Montreal when he passed a number of other drivers including Alexander...

Review of Jos Verstappen
Advantages: Is a very talented and fast driver... Disadvantages: ... but is compramised by the lack of decent machinery
...Oh yes, it's another one of my F1 ops - stop groaning. Of them all this is my favourite F1 op and I hope you like it too and aren't bored of my F1 knowledge because there may be more to come...
(P.S sorry for the bad title - the one I wanted had already been done. If anyone canthink of a better one I'd love to here so I can change it.)
Holland. Aaah what a lovely place. Home of Edam cheese, tulips and of course one of the worlds best football teams (face it they are better than England). So why is it that their motorsport heritage has been about as successful as England has been with skiing.
Maybe I'm being cynical. Of course there are motor racing drivers from Holland. But the best is Jos Verstappen who is currently knocking about for Arrows in the Formula One world championship. Regarded as 'Jos the Boss' in his native...

Review of Jos Verstappen
Advantages: Reasonable start to his career Disadvantages: Not very talented
...Jos Verstappen has been in f1 since 1994 but despite a long career in formula 1 he has yet to become a household name. At the start of his career he was tipped to be really big. The biggest team he ever drove for was Bennetton back in 1994 alongside Micheal Schumacher. Jos achieved two podium finishes in this year, but he was far outshone by Schumacher who won five races that season. Jos has never returned to the podium since.
After leaving Bennetton Verstappen never managed to get a big team contract again. He nearly did in 1999 when Honda recruited him for the new team they were starting up. The developemnt car looked good against the other cars, but after the death of the project leader Honda teamed up with BAR and Verstappen's services were no longer required.
In 1995 Verstappen joined the Simtek team which unfortunately...

Review of Jos Verstappen
Advantages: Plucky try hard in often poor machinery Disadvantages: Does seem to get disheartened
...talents of Ricardo Rosset and the vast sponsorship he brought. Finding no immediate vacancies he thought his chance had passed.
1998 wasn`t a total loss, he got to run the last 9 races of the season when Stewart-Ford dropped Jan Magnussen from the team. But again he never really took his chance with an unfamiliar car with 12th his best result. 1999 saw Jos rejoin Arrows and was a complete disaster, Arrows with chief Tom Walkinshaw expected better when trying to develop there own V10 engines, however the costs and reliability issues left the team struggling to even outqualify the Minardis and occasionally didn`t!
Since Orange came on board in 2000, Arrows have looked up and claimed decent engines to line them up midgrid and even pushing the top teams, verstappen making the most of the straight line speed the Arrows always seems to have...

Review of Jos Verstappen
Advantages: top driver, just needs a lucky break Disadvantages: time is running out for him
...Blimey will some of you give the poor guy a break!! Those of you who have rejected The Boss's talents and accused teams of choosing badly when signing up Jos should think about what they are saying. He has only ever been in a competetive car once. Benetton with the greatest team mate ever (!) Schumi. He didn't do too badly. Notched up a fair few points and got on the podium atleast twice.
Since then it is not his talent that has lessened, but the cars he is given to drive. Tyrell, Stewart and now Arrows really haven't given him anything to work with. Arrows have signed him up for a further season, which in itself is testament to the hard work and effort that Jos has put in. The only reason, in my mind, that Jos has not been pushing the top 6 this year is that he has simply too much bad luck. How many times has he finished 7th this...

Review of Jos Verstappen
...I expected big things form De la Rosa. instead he drives into people and over people instead of around them. He did very well at A1 ring but only because nearly everyone went out on the first corner. Then the car let go. Also, Jos's car last a lot longer than Pedro's which makes me wonder if he is overdriving it. Engines that let go that often are not normally manufacturers fault. Drivers are simply overdriving them. Same as Johnny Hebert. No way can someone have such bad luck with engines. He just breaks them. Go to Indy Car racing Johnny, and take Pedro with you!!!...

Review of Pedro De La Rosa
...I saw this several years ago at the theatre and found it so interesting (weak, I know, but ?enjoyable? simply isn?t the right word) that I had to grab a paper copy as soon as I saw it available. Now, fifty years after it was written, interest in this slip of a play is growing as commentators recall how the young playwright ? only eighteen at the time of writing ? created a piece of theatre that could seem to warrant inclusion in the ?Angry Young Men? genre of the fifties, but was actually something much more nuanced and realistic.
"The Basic Plot"
A difficult mother/daughter relationship is presented and explored as a series of male characters enter and leave their lives in this two act play. It might sound like quite an unpromising premise for a play, but the nuances in the relationships are fascinating, especially Jo?s reactions to...
