...I lived In Costa Rica for 6 years and I spent most of my time in the capital, San jose, which is what I am writing about now. The city itslef is quite small for a capital city but it makes it easyto navigate (up to a point!!). San Jose is located right in the middle of the country in what is called the 'central valley' although it isn't actually a valley. The airport is in the north west of the city, actually outside San Jose. Actually most of the decent hotels are outside the center too. I cannot really recommend and as I have not really used one but I did stay in the Hampton Inn once and it was fine. Taxis Use them, they are cheap. The Beautiful Girl and the Penis Bowl

Advantages: Good weather. And some different ice creams.
Disadvantages: Not much else

......now there's a fairytale title you never hear. I like city breaks, I really do. Thus, I decided to tag a few days in San Jose onto the beginning and end of my Costa Rican tour. In total I spent 6 nights there, but only really 4 days due to flight times and travelling towards Arenal and back from the beach. This is still about 3 and a half days more than most people told me I would need, but I ignored them nonetheless, convinced that any capital city would have a fair few things to keep me entertained. GETTING THERE AND AROUND I arrived at 1am into San Jose airport which is about half an hour and $20 (US) from the centre. One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, four...

Advantages: Excellent, smooth, drinkable tequila.
Disadvantages: Too many tequilas is never a good thing!

...--Jose Cuervo Tradicional Tequila-- This is the first tequila that the Cuervo family produced back in 1795. It is made from 100% agave, matured in oak casks and is a reposado (has been aged for somewhere between 2 months and 1 year). Each bottle has been hand crafted and marked with the year it was bottled. The bottles are slightly smaller than usual (500ml rather than 700ml) but are very easy to work with and look quite smart. ...After reading Kirsty1’s review of this novel on Ciao, I put it on my list of books to borrow from the library. I finished reading it yesterday, after a few weeks of what often felt like an uphill struggle, but I am pleased I read it and thought I’d share my thoughts and feelings on it with you. I hadn’t heard of Jose Saramago before, but he apparently won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1998. As this novel was originally written in Portuguese, I had to read an English version of Blindness, this one being published by Panther and translated by Giovanni Pontiero. So Who Wants To Lead..?

Advantages: Gets the reader thinking on so many levels...
Disadvantages: You'll be able to SMELL the toilets by the time you finish reading this...

Being blind is a terrible and debilitating condition in a civilised society like ours?but you can rely on friends and family, you will receive a guide dog and support from the local council and community and you can expect to be able to gain safe entry to all public buildings?but what if you aren?t the only one? ...Jose Gonzalez was born in Gothenburg in 1978, his parents being of latin american origins (Argentina). He released his first album "Veneer" in April 2005 and from this moment on the world of music gained a superb artist. He´s got an intimate style, his songs are slow almost like lullabies, a good way to describe them. He uses a classical guitar in almost all his songs and I have read that he records on basic equipment at home. His sound is quite "clean" and his voice very very soft... I have never listened to a softer voice, it sounds as he was whispering in your ear... His most famous song might be "Heartbeats" as this was the song of the Sony Bravia TV campaign. This song was originally written by a swedish band called The Knife. However, all songs contained in "Veneer" are the same high quality as Heartbeats, if not better...

a good album to relax to

Disadvantages: maybe too subtle to begin with

...Veneer is a strange album. When I first heard it I was fairly non-plussed, it was all very nice but suited background listening rather than any particular attention. The only track that really stood out was ?Heartbeats? but only for its familarity due to its use in the Sony Bravia adverts. I didn?t even realise it was a cover by Swedish band ?The Knives?. And it stayed that way for quite a while, until earlier this year when in the middle of a bad patch and with sleep becoming more than a struggle ? I really discovered this album. José González has a strange heritage in as much as he is Swedish born by Argentine parents. The album was originally released in 2003 across Europe and didn?t reach the UK until Spring 2005, I believe it followed later in the year for the states. ...A pretty cove and a beautiful walk near San José Spain We went on holiday to San José in Almeria Spain this Easter hols. This is a description of one of the best bays/beaches we found and a good coastal walk. We used the tourist hiking map Capo de Gata-Nijar (1:50.000 same scale as an standard OS map here) which we bought from the tourist information in San José, it comes with an accompanying book about the routes marked on the map. It also contained information about camping, apartments and other local information in Spanish. Dearly beloved can read some Spanish and I found I could follow a lot of the instructions fairly simply, you may be able to get an English copy.
