Joseph - King of Dreams

Advantages: Exactly the same as the bible story.
Disadvantages: Soundtrack - bad quality.

...Again, this is a review of the film only - not the DVD. This is another find from Oxfam's 3 for £1 selection. I bought this video by mistake, thinking it was The Prince of Egypt, which is a film I saw in primary school and loved! Nevertheless, I did like the film, despite it being the wrong one. Although it's a bible story, I still found it ok (if you don't know what I'm talking about, watch any other film of a bible story - they're all crap). The story centres around Joseph, of the house of Jacob. He can tell the future through his dreams and can interpret the dreams of others. His brothers are jealous of him as their father pays special attention to him as he believes Joseph is a gift from God. Joseph's nine brothers decide they've had enough of him so sell him into slavery. I know, heartwarming stuff, isn't it. Anyway, after...

FREE DVDs

Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review

...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them. ∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊ Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Martyn Joseph - honest and memorable

Advantages: Great guitars, honest and powerful lyrics
Disadvantages: Depends whether you like the genre

...Martyn Joseph - Martyn Joseph Just before Christmas, we went to see Martyn Joseph at Haren Church, near Brussels airport. I don't not what surprised me more, that a Welsh singer-songwriter should turn up at a small venue in cold, dark Flanders or that this was the fifth successive year he had been there. We had seen him once before, back at Spring Harvest in Minehead in 1996, and had a couple of his albums. One of these, the eponymously entitled Martyn Joseph is the subject of this review. = MARTYN JOSEPH - WHO IS HE? = Martyn Joseph was born in Penarth in 1960, and came to prominence in the 1980s, primarily among Christian circles. As he said in his self-deprecating manner at the concert, he was originally classified as a rock and pop artist, then this changed to folk, and most recently, a new category has been found...

Joseph & His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Advantages: Fun, Cheap & A Great Sing-A-Long Film
Disadvantages: None

...Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is the dvd from the fantastic West End and Broadway hit musical. Which still plays to packed out audiences worldwide today, after it's first performance back in 1968. This DVD, an adaption of the stage version turned into a film, rather than a live stage performance recording, starts off with the Narrator played by London stage veteran Maria Friedman. She plays the role very well and then walking through the school assembly audience, incomes Joseph, played by the fantastic star, Donny Osmond singing the famous hit Any Dream Will Do. Joseph is the favourite son and his brothers resent him for it, his father gives him an amazing technicolor dreamcoat, full of a dazzling array of stunning colors. His brothers are fuming so sell him to become a slave and lie to their father saying he has...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

Mrs. Mcginty's Dead, how did she die?

Advantages: Agatha Christie's Poirot at this best in a really good tale.
Disadvantages: None

...I love books with Crime and Thrillers being my favourites, and Agatha Christie, known as the Queen of crime writers is a favourite of mine. The book " Mrs. McGinty's dead Why did she die? Stocking her neck out just like I" Mrs Mcginty is a charwoman, who makes end meet by taking in a lodger. She 'does' for several of the local households and is viewed as a treasure. She is an honest and dependable old woman - but she comes across some information that she realises may be worth some money, so she writes a letter..... When Mrs McGinty is found brutally murdered there is only one suspect, hwe lodger, a rather pathetic young man, who is charged, tried and convicted. The policeman in charge of the case should be happy, but he is very uneasy and is unsure why. So he asks his friend, renowned private detective Hercule Poirot to...

Joseph Does it for me

Advantages: Individual trainng and programmes. Small and friendly gym
Disadvantages: None, I love it!

...over and done with ‘cos I WILL be seeing the whole year out as a fully paid up, and active member of Josephs! Ooer, that’s done it now! It’s true to say that I have been a member of more than one gym over the last few years but for one reason or another have not been able to make it a regular occurrence. The first one I joined over two years ago was superb, in being ‘ladies only’ and with very supportive staff. I was doing very well here and was at the stage of thoroughly enjoying my time here, as opposed to dreading each session! Unfortunately I turned up one morning to find the doors locked and a notice saying that it would be closed until further notice etc. It turns out that the people who had recently taken it over and just disappeared. I never did get my money back and they still owe me over £70...

Our Shadows Will Remain - Joseph Arthur

Advantages: A brand new sound to an increasing overcrouded genre
Disadvantages: Some tracks take a few listenings to get used to - and you may not like them at all!

...Dubbed as one of the best singer/songwriters in 2005, Joseph Arthur actually has been in the business of making tremendous music and giving astounding live performances since 1997 (at least). Peter Gabriel of Genesis fame (although that had nothing to do with me listening to Joseph Arthur) recommended him to Real World Records in 1997, which lead to the release of Joseph's first album, "Big City Secrets". However, this, his latest work of art, is by far considered as his best yet. (On tracks 3, 5 and 6, the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra feature) THE TRACKS 1 - In Ohio - Less of a track, more of an opening intro into the album. Simply a line of very dark guitar chords and Joseph's echoey voice. 2 - Can't Exist - This could easily be the best track on the album. It's memorable and has all the features of a "best...

Experiencing an Icy Franz Joseph

Advantages: An amazing experience,
Disadvantages: Weather dependant so you could miss it even if you are in the area.

...WHERE IS THE GLACIER? In New Zealand?s south Island on the West Coast is a real gem known as Westland National Park, a very special area where two permanent glaciers come down to meet a lush green temperate rainforest at about 300 metres above sea level. There are only a few places in the world where two contrasting bio geographical phenomena meet and this is one. The Franz Joseph Glacier is about 12 km long and together with Fox Glacier and the surrounding area has been designated a World heritage site . The Franz Joseph Glacier was named after the famous Austrian Emperor of the same name in 1865by an Austrian explorer but its Maori name; Ka Roimata o Hinehukatere means the tears of Hinehukatere which is a much more poetic name I feel. It is particularly interesting as it comes from a local legend which tells that Hinehukatere loved...

A well-crafted more polished Joseph

Advantages: Tracks like, Can't Exist, History and I am
Disadvantages: Perhaps too produced and too far from how it sounds live or

...Our Shadows will remain is the fourth studio album by Ohio born Joseph Arthur. He was originally discovered by Peter Gabriel and signed to his Real World records, on which Joe released his first three albums. It's fair to say his live performances at times far out-weigh the quality of his albums, renowned for his looping, self-harmonising and painting on stage, his live shows are a cut above any other solo performer. Our Shadows will remain however, is his finest studio release yet. Part of the reason for this is 14th Floor, who have obviously given him the time and budget to craft something fitting of this prolific talent. The strings are a welcome addition to his sound, creating something far more produced than his previous endeavours. This album is also softer and less awkward than earlier material. The minute and a half...
