Good for some
Review of Getting around in London by tube by
Metaphysician
Advantages: Quick & Reliable
Disadvantages: Crowded & Hot
...The Northern Line works well for me, because I commute in from South Wimbledon - only the second stop on the line. Consequently I can always get a seat and complete my journey in comfort. Not so for the poor souls who have to board after Balham and up through Clapham. There seems to be a daily rush-hour scrum to get on and have the privilege of standing for the whole journey. So, potential Northern Line commuters, I warn you, pick your station carefully. The wrong choice could leave you standing....

A long Journey but South at Last!!!!
Review of Journey South - Journey South by
Caylen
Advantages: Easy to listen to and most people will know the words
Disadvantages: A Little Bit Boring
...I got this CD as a present from my Son for Mother's Day. I had left some major hints about what I would like and so I was very very pleased when I unwrapped my package.
I first heard of Journey South through the XFactor and while it was my partner John who really liked them I soon came around to his way of thinking. They had an urgency in their voices and a kind of desperation that you couldn't help but love.
Journey South are two brothers from The North. Carl and Andy have played the pub scence for years and had managed to make it into the final of the Xfaxtor. Unfortunatly the final proved too much for them and I believe they lost their nerve. However to come third in a National Competition out of thousands is not too bad. As they came third I thought perhaps that that would be the last we would see of the two boys.
However six...

Journey South
Review of Journey South's Album by
sewbizzie
Advantages: Great voices, brothers are very easy on the eye!
Disadvantages: No original tracks
...This is the debut album from Andy and Cal also know as Journey South. Andy and Carl are brother who shot to fame on the X-Factor. They had been singing together for years and had spent all of their time touring the country playing small gigs and singing in pubs and clubs. All of their hard work paid off when they auditioned for the X-Factor and easily made it through to the live finals. Unfortunately the brothers did not win the show, much to my disapointment, but they did very well which lead to this album.
There are 11 tracks on the CD which are:-
The first time ever I saw your face
Let it be
Desperado
The circle
Nobody Knows
I still haven't found what I'm looking for
All of you
Time after time
It must have been love
All that I am
English Rose
All 11 of the tracks are cover versions but they do sing them very well and pay justice...

Never on a Sunday
Review of First Great Western by
filmlover
Advantages: Direct rail services to London
Disadvantages: Price, scheduling, overcrowding, Sunday works
...Where do they operate?
South West providing train services between Wales and South West of England to London.
What are the problems?
- Cost of tickets – day return to London from South West more than £80 peaktime, more than £40 off peak (National Express £2 for funfare tickets, £7.75 day return).
- Overcrowding – peaktimes leaving London are packed. Friday 6’clock – standing room only.
- Railworks on Sundays – you do not want to travel on these days. many journeys are routinely, severely disrupted.
- Customer information – they do not always update the national websites (nationalrail.co.uk or thetraineline.co.uk) with changes to services so unsuspecting passengers turn up not realising trains have been replaced and rescheduled.
For example -
I’ve been travelling from the South West to Windsor each weekend for the past couple...

Blue Mountains
Review of General: New South Wales by
MattSlat
Advantages: Quiet, Spectacular
Disadvantages: Not enough for a long trip
...If you are staying in Sydney and want a break from the hustle and bustle, take a day trip to the Blue Mountains.
Only a short train journey away but it feels like a different world!
The spectacular scenery and fresh country air make the Blue Mountains a really nice retreat, I had a very pleasant stay at the Katoomba YHA, where a double room was less than $40.
Katoomba as a place isn't anything special, but a short walk away the gondola and three sisters are big attractions.
Take a pleasant walk through the countryside and soak in the quiet atmosphere....

Review of Full Circle: One Man's Journey by Air, Train, Boat and Occasionally Very Sore Feet Around the 50,000 Miles of the Pacific Rim - Michael Palin by
mr_christa
Advantages: Well written, good photographs
Disadvantages: Needs to be updated
...The third in the series of books based on Michael Palin's travel series. This charts his journey around the often unexplored Pacific Ocean. It incorporates countries which one would often not regard as 'Pacific'. His visit incorporates South America, an underrated destination, yet one of the most beautiful and unspoiled regions of the world.
This journey also takes in the two ex-rivals of Russia and the USA. This was written in 1997 based on the journey of the previous year, so it's very interesting to see how Russia has slowly begun to develop as a tourist destination, after the collapse of Communism. One can also get a sense of how ordinary people felt about the regime, with a terrible but moving visit to a Gulag with an ex-inmate. Highlights of these countries see Palin singing with a Russian Naval Choir and cruising down the West...

Getting around in 'Pool
Review of Getting Around in Blackpool by
LJOne
Advantages: Great public transport and plenty of car parking
Disadvantages: Alot of bus routes that could confuse some people
....
Glasgow to Blackpool can also vary depending on promotions that are valid at the date of travel and a saver return can be as low as £55 and an open return in excess of £90.
I have not travelled the full route to Blackpool from London or Glasgow, but they are both on the west coast mainline and services are regular to Preston. However, I have travelled the rail journey from Preston to Blackpool on many occasions. The Blackpool South trains run about every hour and I have usually found them punctual, although the operators do tend to use some of the older two carriage trains on this route. From Preston the train goes through Kirkham, Lytham, St. Annes. Squires Gates (for Blackpool Airport), the Pleasure Beach and Blackpool South which is an ideal stop for South Shore, the Football Ground (Bloomfield Road) and the Odeon Cinema on Rigby road...

Seek the North Rim
Review of Grand Canyon (Arizona) by
JeffSumm
Advantages: spectacular, quiet, not touristy or tacky
Disadvantages: none
...How many tourist attraction have you gone to, lured by the pictures of serenity and beauty, only to arrive to huge crowds of annoying people? The popular South Rim of the Grand Canyon gets 90% of all the visitors, and the famous sunsets are 6 deep in observers.Lots of cameras going off, lots of tacky souveniers for sale, very commercial, polluted, and crowded.
The North Rim, the higher of the two rims and positioned better for watching sunsets, gets 10% of the visitors and is never crowded. You can always find a vantage point where you can be alone with yourself or your partner/family, and you can walk the trails without having to frequently squeeze by people or look at their litter. It's quieter at night as well. You want to party, go to Vegas, is what I say.
The North Rim is accessable from the south only by a long, difficult, two...

A Trek Back In Time
Review of South Luangwa National Park (Zambia) by
mattstronge
Advantages: One of the most stunning places on earth..
Disadvantages: When trekking it can be considered quite dangerous..
...South Luangwa had to be the most amazing place I visited when in Zambia.. I visited Zambia for a month last summer in an expedition organised with my college.
Our team arrived in South Luangwa after somewhat of a bumpy ride from Lusaka / Chipata! (The public transport can be quite uncomfortable but its a great experience). We arrived in Mpika to be bombarded with alot of people seemingly in the middle of a party. A great little village but quite intimidating when you arrive - but nevertheless a fantastic place.
We eventually reached the outskirts of South Luangwa and began our week long trek after abit of relaxation and horse riding!.. We began early in the morning and set out on what would be an amazing journey through the park!
As we walked the echoes of baboons could be heard all over and it was quite intimidating to be stepping...
