...I bought my JVC GR-DVL100 digital camcorder (currently available on ebay for around £275) to take with me when I went overseas for the first time on my honeymoon (I am from Australia and we traveled to Scotland and England, fell in love with what we saw and now we live in London). Budget DV Camcorder, Packed full of features.

Advantages: Small, Light, Cheap and full of features that the expensive cameras have.
Disadvantages: Does not have a DV Input

...was fairly small but not too big. I went to my local Jessops and got them to price match Empire-Direct.co.uk and had it reduced from £499.99 to £369.99. A real bargain. The camera is the JVC DVL-150EK. It is a reasonably small camcorder but not as small as some you can get but I wasn?t too concerned as the price was exceptionally cheap and im' not one of these people who has to have everything miniscule and pay £750 upwards for it. The camera comes complete with all the accessories such as remote control, scart adaptor and leads to connect it into your VCR or TV and record to a large VHS tape or simply play it back on a big screen for all your friends and family. Advantages: High Specification
Disadvantages: bulky compared to some of the newer models

...tint, like old movies. B/W Monotone: remember black and hite movies? Slow: for use in dark areas - raises light ensitivity. Fade/Wipe: various effects to add professional touches. Auto/manual focus: a choice which can be useful depending on your level of expertise. SO, how much did this cost me then? $600 and this included a free camera carrying bag from the store. At the time, this converted to around £380 (see my earlier review 'buddy can you spare a dime' - rip off Britain). Interesting given that this was higher a spec product than I'd seen available in the UK (and I've still never seen a digicam with X700 zoom - not to say there's not lots of them out there). Was the camera worth it? You bet! Well done JVC......

After researching all over the net, it seemed that Canon, JVC and Panasonic were all producing good, cheap digital camcorders. MiniDV is apparenlty the format to go for. I'll call it Mini-Camera!

Advantages: Light, easy to carry, good zoom, large view screen, long lasting batteries avaliable, still and video in one
Disadvantages: no low light lux, no steady light, not the best anti-shake.

...you don't plan to take a lot of low light videos then you will probably love this camera. The only problem I had when I took my camera to Jamacia and the Bahamas was the rapid condinsation shut down the camera if you took it from your hotel room to outside to quickly. The way I corrected this was to put the camera near an open window for about ten minutes, then just outside for 10 minutes then all the way outside for a few more minutes to get it use the the change in temps. The 4mb card that comes with the camera will store about 30+ images in the low image format, which isn't bad for a video camera. If you want a great all around camera (which is cheaper than a good DV and a good digital still camera) then I would go with the JVC GR-DVL9800U (This one) :) The camera's menu system is easy to learn and operate.
