MORE THAN OKTOBERFEST
Review of Munich (Germany) by
BACK_IN_BLACK_DEVIL
Advantages: FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN
Disadvantages: You can´t sleep
...One should as at home therefore in Munich infer from my previous reports in the area of "journey" that I am homeless since I have studies conditionally spent more time abroad within the last 2 years.
I nevertheless do not lay any claim to completeness, for this Munich is too large and various to give you a better understanding in the following text a pity actually because the "metropolis with heart" is a terrific town in almost all areas and I will this try. On account of the clarity and due to the report length I have chosen the following sub-structure:
General -- - traffic -- sights, museums, stages - Parks , meal and stay, Nightlife, excursions, result
General
Is the country head of the Free State of Bavaria, for years the population has hesitated between 1.2 and 1.3 millions for Munich. It is the third largest town...

The Bustling Capital of Bavaria
Review of Munich (Germany) by
jackie-b
Advantages: Lots to see and do
Disadvantages: None
...journey on the train. On my last visit I purchased a four-day pass, which covered my journey to and from the airport plus unlimited use of the underground system in the city zone as well as my travel each morning to work, which is about half an hours ride out of Munich into ‘Zone 2’ of the train system. This four day pass covering Zones 1 and 2 only cost 14.80 euro (about 9.60GBP), the train staff all seemed to speak English, timetables are easy to understand and every single train was always on time. Our transport system certainly leaves a lot to be desired.
Finding a hotel to stay in Munich couldn’t be easier as there’s a great selection to choose from, many you’ll find on the internet or you could contact the tourist information in Munich who I’m sure you’ll find to be English speaking and most helpful and efficient.
Munich has a lot...

A city you don't really know from TV
Review of Munich (Germany) by
burk
Advantages: More than Oktoberfest and Lederhosen to be found
Disadvantages: Expensive, the weather - depending on the time of the year of your trip
...and by Taxi. S-Bahn and bus take about 45 minutes and are about 10 Euro per person, but there possible discounts for more people using the S-Bahn (Group Ticket). A taxi will be about 40 to 50 Euro, depending on where and when to go (traffic jams are a standard at Munich) for all people who fit in :-)).
-by railway:
Munich Main Station is located right in the middle of the city. It's not a very representative and comfortable place to spend more time as necessary, but as it's in the middle of the city of Munich it's a good place to start exploring the attractions of Munich. There are some hotels right next to the station but you should have a good look and a talk to the doorman before checking in, as some are the type 'pre paid and room rentable hourly' (I think you got what kind of hotel these ones are like).
-by car:
Munich isn't different to all...

Bayern Muenchen, Oktoberfest and Lederhosen
Review of Munich (Germany) by
theGerman
Advantages: sights, nightlife ...
Disadvantages: if its raining, it can be boring!
...... you combine this city with all these words. But there are a lot of more sights in Munich.
If I would do a trip through Munich I would take time for a week.
1st day: First I do a sightseeing tour with one of the sightseeing busses in Munich. Then I go for a walk through the "Englischer Garten" (English Garden) and relax a bit. For lunch, I go in a "Biergarten" (beergarden ;) ) and eat something. Then I walk through the city and look at the shops in the inner-city. For "dinner" I go to the "Hofbraeuhaus".
2nd day: For this day I don't plan very much because I am very tired from the last night in the Hofbraeuhaus (you drink a lot of beer in there). I go to the "Deutsche Museum" (German museum). Its a museum of physic.
3rd day: If I'm here in Septembre, I go to the Oktoberfest. (I think you all know what it is...

Bavarian Largesse
Review of Munich (Germany) by
uniofexe
Advantages: Beer City, Friendly, Culture Immersion
Disadvantages: expensive, diverse
...Munich, the largest and most prosperous city in Bavaria is also its capital. To those unfamiliar with Germany, this city had international acclaim in 1972 with the Olympics, unfortunately it also resulted in an international act of terrorism by palestinians on the Israeli athletes. Thankfully Munich has managed to foreshadow this embarrassment in the World-Class city it is today.
I advise the best place to start your infiltration into Munich is at the Marienplatz, the centre of action in the Alstadt(old city) and the gravitation point of the city. Here it is almost impossible to not immerse yourself in the culture and history of the city. Taking in the Neues Rathaus, gothic town hall, where festivals and events are held throughout the year. Oktoberfest, my reason for going and indulging in Bavaria's finest beers and girls in pretzel...

Business Trip Accommodation in Munich
Review of Munich (Germany) by
mandynoble
Advantages: All listed in op.
Disadvantages: Gets booked up early during Oktoberfest & trade-fairs
...cocktails if you feel like a celebration! You must try the scrambled eggs, I don't know what they do to them but they alone are worth the visit.
** Top Tip - if you order breakfast in your room you'll be served with enough food to feed an army. If I have to stay over a weekend I always do this and (using the minibar fridge) this will keep you in fruit and snacks (cheese, rolls, preserves etc) for the whole weekend **
The price for B&B is approx DM260 per night - this is about average. PLEASE NOTE, during Oktoberfest, trade fairs the price almost doubles and you have to book very early (again, this applies to all Munich hotels).
Futher info and bookings can be made at www.basshotels.com...

Review of Oktoberfest, Munich by
Andy.mack
Advantages: Beer, Food, Fun Fairs, Beer
Disadvantages: Very very Crowded, Hard to get a seat
...with them. Over the years the festival got bigger and bigger as the Munich breweries carried on the tradition. As time went by they enhanced the reputation and added to the festivities with the introduction of parades in 1887 to really kick things off.
The festival itself runs from the 16th September to the 3rd October every year. It's held quite close to the centre of Munich on the Theresienwiese (Theresa's Fields) in front of the city gates with the watchful statue of Lady Bavaria in the background. Getting to the site is simple enough with the U Bahn and S Bahn running quite close to the site. With the U Bahn there is actually a station that opens out onto the site at Theresienwiese station, but this does get very crowded. We chose instead to get the S Bahn from our hotel which stops at Hackerbrücke and it's only about a 5 minute walk from...
