Lionheart-Kate Bush
Advantages: Fierce, delicate, enchantin g.All that Kate Bush is loved and admired for encapsulated in this album
Disadvantages: You stare at the cover hating youself for not looking as sexy as she does!
...Lionheart (1978) is really a beautiful addition the Kate Bush collection. The sexy album cover and lyrics like 'the more that I think of sex the better it gets' hints at the real bravery buried in this album. It's no suprise with songs like "Oh England My Lionheart", that this album did really well in England and not so well in the US.
Kate Bush's vocals really do leap and dance around the music in this enchanting album. But dont be fooled by her butterfly like delicate voice, for lurking deep inside Kate is a woman who throws out lyrics heavy with ferocity like 'he's too busy hitting the vaseline' in the brilliant song WOW!
This album really is amazing to listen to as its so intricate and detailed with surprises and points of interest lurking in every crevice of itself. You could really keep listening to it over and over...

Hounds of Love - Kate Bush
Advantages: Almost perfect album, improved seperation of sounds in remastered form.
Disadvantages: One or two slightly weaker tracks.
...I'm not a hugely rabid Kate Bush fan. I've pretty much liked all her singles over the years but having tried most of her albums I can't say that I really thought much of most of the tracks presented on them. However, Hounds of Love is something else.
After an initially busy period, Kate Bush has been somewhat sporadic in her output although I'd saying raising a family is a fair reason so all kudos to her for doing the right thing. Hounds of Love did pop out a bit later than most people expected but when it did it showed a radical departure from her previous work and presented an interesting fusion of Fairlight samples, Irish rythyms and all manner of odd sounds and structures.
I bought the original when it first came out on CD, it was one of the very first CDs available and as I gingerly dropped it in to my top loading Phillips...

Kate Bush, Brilliantly Mad
Advantages: Radical, ingenious compositions and arrangements, a motherlode of invention!
Disadvantages: Not for everyone; as with Kate's other albums, TIME will reveal the surreal beauty of these works.
...Part I.
Kate Bush, musician extraordinaire, rushes in where the dull and unimaginative fear to tread. In her terrific landmark album, The Dreaming, which saw a quiet release to the unsuspecting world some twenty years ago, she crashes through the boundaries of modern alternative pop music making, whilst maintaining a strong link to her listeners--I might be so bold as to declare that with this album she forges an even more powerful bond with them. And the more you listen to the tracks, the more deeply you're drawn into her mesmerizing, wild, weird and wonderful Salvador Daliesque world.
Kate has also called this her "mad album." Ah, give me intelligent madness over mediocrity anytime!
What to Do While Waiting for KBVIII.
Well, while awaiting her follow-up to the 1993 Red Shoes (rumored at one time to be released in ?98...

Kate Bush's new Album 'Aerial'
Advantages: Deeply poetic, rich musical excellence. It's Kate Bush.
Disadvantages: Not instant music for parties. It wouldn't work. Don't do it.
...Let me begin with a highly relevant link because if you go to it you get the first track and a video to watch as well:
http://www.katebush.com/video/kingofthemountain/
So, I'm in France with a gorgeous girlfriend with Kate warbling, 'Ai ai! Babooshka, Babooshka, yi, yi!' on the jukebox and I'm just having a great 1982. Something of Kate Bush is imprinted and stays with me, and though singles like, 'Cloudbusting,' and albums like 'Red Shoes,' pass me by un-noticed as the years fly by, the mad-eyed girl who sang of 'Wuthering, Wuthering, Wuthering Heights!' never entirely goes away.
She seems to though. For twelve years she's gone. On http://www.white-man-killer.com/kate/ the Webmistress, Sylvia, can be seen opining that Kate Bush is unlikely to tour or make an album again.
She's back now with a new album called, 'Aerial...

Lesley Herskovits is still Waiting for Kate Bush
Advantages: Good story
Disadvantages: None for me
...Looking at the cover of this book, which features a large close up photograph of Kate Bush's face one could be forgiven for thinking that this book is a biography of the singer that has often been dubbed "one of Britain's most eccentric pop stars". In fact Waiting For Kate Bush is not a biography at all, although it is packed full of so much personal information about the singer that it does serve as one, in a roundabout way. This is instead a bizarre story of one mans obsession with Ms Bush written by John Mendelssohn and told through the character that he has created in Lesley Herskovits. It is a fictional story that is packed full of facts and provides an unique insight into the life of one of the pop world's most elusive stars.
Lesley Herskovits is a fifty something American who is so obsessed with Kate Bush that he has abandoned...

The Dreaming Kate Bush
Advantages: One of her best albums
Disadvantages: Too 'weird' for some
...With The Dreaming, Kate Bush took a mammoth leap, producing something of dark beauty and meticulous madness. Her previous set Never Forever, was an admirable leap back into the mainstream after the low-key affair of Lionheart. Here though, she really muddies the waters. Multiple vocal dubs, drum machines to the max, and a more textured voice give these songs a murky quality.
"Sat In Your Lap" is a bizarre mishmash of sounds, released the year before. Whilst ultimately enjoyable, it has less depth than anything else does here. "Pull Out The Pin" is a commentary of the west's effect on the rest of the world and is perhaps her most ambitious song to date. The electric guitar and bass are really something.
Kate goes all ska and cockney on us in the humorous "There Goes A Tenner", and then Australian in the title track, which...

The Kick Inside Kate Bush
Advantages: Nothing like it in your collection
Disadvantages: To short
...Most reviews of this album are inavoidably concerned with Miss Bush,s personality and capacity for strangeness and the ethereal, but what of the music,as a 12 year old school boy in 1978 Kate Bush appealed on more than one level ,her dark gypsy like features hinted at an unexplored sexual bohemia and her music was just as seductive in amongst the punk and disco of the late seventies.
At the core of this beautiful and strange record is an undeniable sense of Englishness, but an Englishness which was far removed from the desperate austerity of 1978 and its snarling punk rock inner cities and political discontent, its finer grooves hint and whisper at myth and legend and the romance of Byron and Bronte ,the songs soothe and shock in equal measure ,from hypnotic lullaby to screeching operatics all perfomed within the realms of a traditional...

Kate's excellent debut album!
Advantages: Flawless song-writing, a unique talent from the off
Disadvantages: Her voice won't appeal to everyone
...Kate Bush was discovered in 1975 when David Gilmour of Pink Floyd recommended her to record company EMI. Gilmour immediately knew that she was a rare talent and on releasing this debut album Kate would soon reveal herself to be a true eccentric genius. All of the songs featured here on The Kick Inside were written while she was a teenager and this includes the chart topping single Wuthering Heights, which had been released as a single prior to the album. It established Kate as not only a unique talent but one who may even turn out to be indispensable. Wuthering Heights was the first ever Number 1 UK single to be both written and performed by a female artist, an achievement not to be scoffed at.
I?m sure we?ve all heard Wuthering Heights and it?s a gleaming example of what is on offer throughout the entire album; lusciously composed...

Kate Bush returns with the magical Aerial.
Advantages: Pure Kate Bush- worth the money.
Disadvantages: Some will find it too quirky.
...This is my first ever review, so I chose a subject close to my heart - Kate Bush's music.
Having spent my melancholy teen years accompanied by a Kate Bush soundtrack, I had been disappointed with "The Red Shoes", and longed for the glory days of "Never Forever", "Lionheart" and "The Kick Inside" - those are listed in my order of preference !
From the haunting first track on "Aerial", the upbeat "King of the Mountain", the "King" being Elvis, the album takes on a more mature tone than her earlier works, and my favourite track on CD1, "Mrs. Bartolozzi", is the quirky Kate which people find amazingly innovative or totally bonkers! It is a song seemingly about housework, yet magically soulful when you hear the lilting voice, the music and the underlying sadness in relationships.
Her multi-octave range is evident throughout...

Forever Kate
Advantages: creative, idiosyncratic, unique
Disadvantages: two or three of duff tracks depending on your opinion
...Never for Ever was released in 1980. It was Kate Bush's third album and made her the first female singer to top the British album charts. It differs greatly from the two that preceeded it; the sublimely romantic 'The Kick Inside' and the mellow 'Lionheart'. In 'Never for Ever' Kate worked on the production and it shows, as she begins to express herself in new and experimental ways, using her voice as an instrument, as well as making use of various sound effects and samples. She also moves towards using electronic music and away from concentrating on the piano. This album has some aggression that paves the way for what is to come in 'The Dreaming', which followed two years later and which is actually hated by some fans who love her other work. I love both of these albums and wonder if the lack of popularity of her more manic recordings is...
