Visit to Kathmandu Nepal

Advantages: very cheap to live there, friendly environment
Disadvantages: spitting on the everywhere

...When i think of past memories, i think of my trip to Nepal in the city called Kathmandu which is the capital city. First of all, i was never there until i went there and what i saw there was what is left for another trip to complete my experience. I left for India with my best friend Doe for an adventure and finally we decided to visit Nepal. When we arrived this Country, it was first of all a shock but the later wasn't true. It was Summer there i guest because it was in hot and very dusty. The cars there were so small for my liking. We board a cab to one "Tokyo" Hotel where we lodged for the night. The thing that interested me most was the price of the hotel rooms. I cant imagine that i paid for a hotel room for two just $5 a night. The Highest Hyatt? Maybe.

Advantages: Stylish room, good service, Rox!
Disadvantages: Outside of town, boring breakfast

...I was quite excited to be visiting Kathmandu. The roof of the world, the Himalayas, Yaks, Yetis, and all that. I was on a short business trip so I knew that I wouldn't have time to take the fantastic dawn Everest flight (thankfully I was wrong about that!) or go yak-spotting (right on this one though). but still - Kathmandu! Nepal! The mystery, the mystique, mysticism, Miss Yeti! Given the choice I might have picked a more "local" place to stay, or gone to the famous Yak and Yeti, but someone else was paying the bill and had booked me into the Hyatt. Hey, not that I was complaining! The Transfer I had asked for a pick up at the airport. I got held up at immigration getting the visa, and ended up the last person through passport control and one of the last through baggage, so I wondered if the driver was still there for me...

Review of Hyatt Regency Hotel Kathmandu

Nice place. Shame about the food

...Rum Doodle in Thamel, Kathmandu is considered an institution by many of the mountaineering and trekking expeditions who go there and is a traditional place to go at the end of a trip. I recently returned from the Annapurna circuit and we all decided to visit for a meal as well. The restaurant is described as the 40,000 1/2ft bar, a description which is a tad confusing to say the least for people like myself. It turns out that the restaurant is named after a book entitled "The Ascent of Rum Doodle? by W.E Bowman or that the book is named after the restaurant ? I never did find out which. Either way the book and the restaurant are intrinsically linked and in the spirit of cashing in, copies of the book are available from the restaurant at the very reasonable price of 200 rs, which is currently £1.50 or so. I would recommend the book...

Patan today is a part of the town Kathmandu just across the river. Bhaktapur is 20 km far from Kathmandu. Highlights are beside the Durbar Squares of Patan and Kathmandu the Buddhist Stupas of Swayambuhunath (Monkey Temple) and Bodnath (Bhouda - little Tibet). But the most interesting sight is Pashupatinath, the most important Hindu temple, which is mainly devoted to Shiva, where you can watch the funerals and cremations at the riverside all the day. Namaste to Nepal

Disadvantages: can´t buy everything

...a dream which goes on as long as you will be travelling through this beautiful country. I arrived in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, and realized how different this country is compared with my home. Everybody seems to be in a hurry, noisy cars, dirty streets, but still a place to feel save an compfort. From the airport to “downtown” it´s not far. Not far in kilometers, but if there stands a holy cow on the street all the cars are waiting till the cow decides to go back to the field or somewhere else. Everybody in nepal is very friendly. I first realized it while I arrived at the hotel. I have never been in Nepal before and consequently not in this hotel before. But they welcomed me like I would be a guest for years and years! Time is ticking in an other way in Nepal, but if you have any questions feel free to ask...

Gets you from A to B, but no other customer care.

Advantages: Good leg room, Excellent entertainment facilities, Helpful and friendly Cabin Crew
Disadvantages: Staff at check-in and boarding gate speak little English and are not very helpful

...I recently flew economy class with Qatar Airways to Kathmandu, Nepal via Doha. The in-flight experience was very pleasant with welcoming and helpful staff, reasonable food and plenty of leg-room for comfort. Rather disappointingly, the administration behind the airline is inadequate. Our flight to Kathmandu from Doha was delayed by 3 hours, and no explanation was given despite repeated enquiries from many passengers, with passengers stuck inside and outside the departure lounge. Doha airport regularly displays the wrong boarding gate numbers, causing confusion to passengers all over the airport, and the experience is very stressful when trying to catch a tight connection. In my case, our delay at Doha caused one of our bags to go missing. Discussion with the Qatar office in Kathmandu was very frustrating, with no immediate response...

Opodo - avoid like the plague

Advantages: Cheap but not worth the hassle
Disadvantages: Selling flights that they're not licenced to sell. Terrible customer service. No 24 hour helpline.

...READ THIS - Very important . I would never use opodo again after the trouble I had after booking a flight with them. I booked a flight from London to Kathmandu three months before travelling. I used an internet comparison site and the cheapest company for the flight I booked wasn't actually Opodo but I booked through Opodo because I (wrongly) trusted them. The day before I was due to travel they rang me up and said my flight had been cancelled (!!!). They said the only thing I could do was take a refund and try and find another flight. Obviously there were no other flights or not for less than £2000 anyway and they gave me no help finding another flight. I spent hours trying to find a flight and in the end had to buy one to Calcutta 3 days later and would have had to make my way overland to Kathmandu. Not ideal since I was supposed to...

Excellent Holiday

...Having just comeback from a 12 day holiday in Nepal, I would say that it is one of the best holiday venues for people who want more than just lying on the beach. We went sight-seeing in Kathmandu, white water rafting, four days of trekking near the base of Annapurna, and had three days safari in the Royal Chitwan National part. Kathmandu was very interesting, mainly because of the historic and religious places. White water rafting was great fun - exhilirating, wild and wet! The trekking was tough, as Nepal is not very flat. However, the scenery was breath-taking, and despite the remote areas, the food and drink was outstanding - it was amazing to us that everything had to be carried in on foot. The safari was very good as well. We stayed in the Rhino Residency Resort (?) which was excellent (especially after the relative...

Prince's Private Planes

Advantages: New Aircraft. Helpful Staff

...Imagine being stuck, motionless at Dakar, Bangladesh on an Arabian airline being served by a stewardess from Blackburn. Bizarre? Oh yes. She was very efficient and well trained though. Qatar airlines was started as a hobby by the Crown Prince of Qatar, and he still flies the airliners occasionally. He also lets his pals have a go sometimes. Don't let this put you off though. The Prince's vast quantities of money meant that he was able to invest in completely new Airbuses a couple of years ago and they are pretty well maintained. The food is bog standard airline stuff, albeit with a choice of Arab or Western dishes. I flew from London to Kathmandu with them, which meant a transfer at Doha, Qatar. They handled this flawlessly and provided hot Westerners with iced water as soon as we got on the plane out of the 35C temperature...

...I travelled on Qatar Airways 2 years ago, and it was unforgetable. I got a business class return trip to Kathmandu Nepal as a birthday present. I was very pleasantly surprised on the trip. I got excellent service from the word go. I had no trouble at check in. When I got on the Plane I took my seat in business class, which was mostly empty apart from two other people. The Crew were very nice to me, especially when they found out I spoke Arabic. The trip from London to Doha was very comfortable, with seats that extend to almost like a bed. Then I had my own choise of film which I could watch on my personal video player. The food was great. We touched down in Doha, where they gave me an invite to use the louge in Doha Airport, but I didn't have enough time to go there.
