Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. ...Having been a huge Who fan for a few years, I was excited to read this biography. Once read I was not disappointed. Moments of out loud laughter combined with intrigue and sadness. The author (Tony Fletcher) attempts to be impartial, attempting to separate the myth from the legend, which is no easy task with a character at extreme characters in modern times. Even his birth date is uncertain. The book describes key moments and some very very funny stories based on Fletchers research. Keith Moon is probably one of the most interesting people to live, given the money and fame to fulfil his lifestyle of excess. Excess being the key word in Keith's life, where everything including drink, drugs and jokes was over the top. ...The Keith Barret show tour 2005, now sadly ended, was, in a word, excellent. Should there be another on in the future, definitely consider it for a night out . Personally I attanded the part of the tour in The Hawth, Crawley. Brydon has taken the character Keith Barrett from a humble cabbie driver / chauffeur in the hugely successful television series 'Marion and Geoff' to a captivating spoof Talk Show Host, the theme of the actual tour. But, "it's not a show" as Keith reminds us at the start, and the comedy starts here. Fundamentally, Brydon / Barrett is able to create comedy to appeal to all members of the audience. Advantages: very well acted by Rob Brydon. Brilliantly written. Keith Barrett is a genius creation.
Disadvantages: Might not appeal to all audiences.

...Marion and Geoff was a comedy TV series with a difference that was originally aired in 2000. Unlike other sitcom drama which last from 30 minutes to an hour, the first series of Marion and Geoff only lasted 10 minutes. The advantages of this were that it could be slotted into scheduling easily, and it always has you wanting more. There were 11 episodes in the first episode and this DVD has them all. The series is also unique in that it only has one character, Keith Barrett. Some people might not like the idea of only one actor, and it is a challenging role but Rob Brydon who plays it pulls it off well.
