Review of Kenilworth Castle, Kenilworth

From London to Kenilworth

Advantages: Easy to read tale of Lord Robert Dudley, "friend" to Elizabeth I, mostly based on fact.
Disadvantages: Not as well written as the author's Queen Victoria series.

...explore possible alternative twists to the gaps in the historical facts, you will probably appreciate Philippa Gregory's The Virgin's Lover more. I think this alternative is slightly better than the Jean Plaidy version and a five star read. AKIN TO "Nice Legs, Shame about the Face"......

Advantages: Very convenient location, free high speed wireless internet throughout, comfortable beds
Disadvantages: Single rooms VERY small, food choice limited and expensive, doesn't strike me as the safest of areas at night

Shakespeare's Inspiration

Advantages: pretty, safe, historic
Disadvantages: pretty dull for adolescents

...Having lived in Kenilworth for most of my life, I think I have a pretty fair view of the town. Situated in Warwickshire, Kenilworth (originally titled 'Chinewrde') is very much a residential place; consisting largely of houses, schools, shops selling the essentials, parks and churches. It's not a large town, although the population is gradually increasing - with the count in 1999 as 30, 337. It's a pretty and quiet town in which to live, and many tourists stop off here on their way to Stratford-upon-Avon or Leamington Spa. There are plenty of B&Bs and hotels to cope with this demand and they can get rather busy in summer. Kenilworth Castle has always been a popular destination and has some interesting history. Queen Elizabeth I visited it in 1575, and she was presented with a fantastic water-borne pageant and a firework display...

Luxury it ain't

Advantages: Good location, Friendly staff
Disadvantages: Tiny rooms, Horrid bathrooms, TVs seems to be a bit dodgy

...I have had the misfortune of staying at the Edwardian Kenilworth a number of times now and I must say it would not my fisrt choice for the future. Location For me, the location was pretty good as it's central and not too far from tube stations (Tottenham Court Road a few minutes walk). It's very good if you want to go to the British Museum or the theatre as all are nearby. Foodwise, I have found it to be pretty good for coffee shops, restaurants and there are even a few min-mart style shops if you want little bits and pieces. I found it quite quiet at night which could be a little off putting, but I have seen no bother so felt safe enough wandering around late from my restaurant. A rural retreat

...Kenilworth is a small town situated in Warwickshire is the West Midlands. I have spent the summer of 2001 in Kenilworth and have found it to be a lovely retreat away from the pressure of city university life. Its population is around, placing it as a medium sized town. There are many pubs in Kenilworth, but unfortunately not many catering for the younger generation of residents. I have found two main pubs for the 18 – 25 age range, The Tut which is located on the main road through Kenilworth, and the Fellis and Furkin, both of which have a lively atmosphere in the evenings and beer gardens to spend all those lazy summer afternoons in. Kenilworth has a small number of shops, including Woolworth’s and Boots’s well as a couple of other various retailers, travel agents and charity shops. But only 4 miles away is...

Im a Coventry Kid

Advantages: centrally located - can get cheap accommodation
Disadvantages: some of the old fashioned buildings

...nicer. There is quite a lot to do in Coventry and the nightlife scene has improved since the opening of the Skydome which has a multi-screen cinema complex, Jumpin Jak's and Diva nightclubs etc. If you are visiting places like Stratford, Kenilworth or Leamington, it is a nice base to stay as it is central to all other towns nearby....

...We were very lucky to receive a Red Letter Day experience gift at Christmas which involved a trip to the theatre and dinner for two at a nearby restaurant. Having settled on 'We Will Rock You' at the Dominion Theatre for our show, we were allocated a pre-theatre meal at the Creation Bar and Restaurant which is part of the OLd Kenilworth Hotel. The Creation Restaurant is at 97 Great Russell Street in Bloomsbury literally only a five minute walk from the Dominion. As it's not quite on a main road you might not know it was there and indeed at six o'clock on a Tuesdau evening it was not very busy at all.
