Disadvantages: Very expensive to eat inside the hotel, don't bother!

...Although I have been to London a few times, my most recent visit would be the first time I would be staying in a hotel there, as I usually stayed with a friend just outside of London. Hotels in London don't come cheap with many hotels starting at around £130 per night, and going upwards from there! We decided to stay in London for 3 nights, which isn't long enough for me but it was proving to be too expensive finding somewhere half decent for 4 nights. Searching throguh Expedia and Lastminute I actually found the Marriott Kensington to be one of the cheapest, but only because they had an offer, stay 2 nights and get 1 free! Situated just round the corner from Gloucester Road tube station near Kensington in central London, the hotel takes up much of the whole block. = BOOKING = I was in London for work as part of a large party, so the booking arrangements were handled by the people organising the trip. I have looked at the website, and booking seems very straightforward on there, with an easy form with drop-down menus with options for the quality of room. Our group were all given standard rooms, which cost £130 per night, not including breakfast. Since it was a work trip, this was in the ballpark of costs for the type of hotel that MEPs would consider acceptable. ...of things she was obviously bracing herself! It is now 1am, and I decided that enough is enough and that I will be changing rooms, so I went down to the guy in reception to request a new room. After 5 minutes of trying to wake him, he instead suggests that he would phone up and tell them to be more considerate, but I pointed out, and I said it in these exact words: "Look mate, you can't do that - you're gonna put him off his stroke man! It's not their fault that the sound insulation in your hotel is RUBBISH!" Anyway, after about 10 minutes of arguing with the guy, I bullied him into allocating me a different room on the floor above and off to the right! However, after that I found it quite hard to get off to sleep - but at least I wasn't where all the action is! At 3 am, I heard an altercation between between porno room...

Cosy Kensington Close Hotel!

Advantages: reasonably priced for london
Disadvantages: good job we didn't bring the cat...

...My fiancé and i stayed here in January 2006 as part of a theatre break in London. The location of the hotel is nice, just a 2 minute walk from High Street Ken and the gardens, although the initial impression of the hotel isnt great as it looks very 80s american! I think it would have been a very grand entrace at one time but the outside could do with a refurb now. Inside, the hotel is huge, with lots of bars and seating areas with comfy chairs, and some nice prints on the wall. as the place is massive the staff are very well orgnaised and despite queues to check in we were quickly dealt with. Our room was tiny!!!!very clean, etc, but really, really small! im pretty sure the bed wasnt a full size double, and one side was up against the window so we both had to slide in the same side! I know london is famed for small hotel rooms...

Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: 2 star hotel and it deserves them

...the corridor cupboard doors have a leatherette cladding, the ones on our corridor were very obviously peeling away from the doors and looked tatty. Our room door stuck and had to be slammed shut. The bathroom extractor fan did not work hence the peeling paint on the bathroom ceiling. Glazing was poor with lots of street noise able to come into the room. Lumpy pillows. Good bits. The breakfast was wholesome and fresh, the pork and leek sausages were lovely. The resaurant although looked clean felt sterile with no atmosphere. Maid service was good. Nice clean towels. Good location right opposite Kensington Palace and just along form Hyde Park. 15 minutes walk from Harrods and Harvey Nichols, Knightsbridge. 2 minutes walk from Kensington High Street and Tube Station....

Advantages: A big hotel boasting spa facilities

...I stayed at this hotel when i was on a school trip. The hotel is situated close to a street of shops, yet surrounded by buildings, leaving not much view. The rooms were ample sized, yet not very big. Many would say it was too small. The bathroom was clean and pleasant. The beds also weren't very comfortable. The breakfast in my opinion was horrible. Ive seen much better breakfasts. It was unclean and not very good selection. The hotel was big allowing plenty of space to sit comfortably and relax. There was also a bar and spa facilities yet i didnt get the chance to use them - but they did look like!! The hotel had internet facilities which was good as not many hotels ive stayed at have. It also had a shop with sweets and gifts in, which was quite nice. Overall i wouldnt really stay here again but on a cheap budget...

Kensington Mortgages

Advantages: You get what you need out of them
Disadvantages: Obscenely high interest rates, no reward for loyalty.

...I took over a mortgage with my partner in 2005 following her messy divorce and our of desperation with all the debts her ex left her. We were directed to Kensington via a local Broker, which I have now learnt to be probably more to do with their high rate of commision to the broker and little to do with our own personal circumstances. The most they would offer us was £60,000 despite the value of the house being £30,000 more. This was largely due to the absolutey massacred state of my partners credit rating because of the joint finances the ex left her paying..... and the fact I was only on a modest full time wage (NHS!) By the time all the kinks were ironed out, including removal of a charge on the house thanks to the cursed ex, we were relatively happy to have settled, had enough left over for the rest of the double glazing...

...Thanks for reading my review, I have done a full review of the Premier Inn London Kensington below however if you are simply interested in the advantages and disadvantages of the hotel I've placed a little summary at the bottom of the page. Hope you find it useful and as usual feedback is welcome. I'll start by saying this for the Premier Inn Kensington, either it does not cash in on big events such as West End Live, or it does not know about them. Either way this became the reason for our stay over West End Live weekend 2008. At £84 for a double room per night it isn't expensive considering its proximity to the tube and to the heart of London, even for a normal weekend.
