...I was just looking back at my photos from my holiday in Kenya last year and felt compelled to write about the wonderful places we stayed and attractions we visited. It feels like being back at school having to write about holidays we went on!! I went to Kenya last June with my Mum, her fiancee and my little sister (well not so little at 23!). Mum and my now step dad were getting married out there are took me and my sister out to celebrate with them. Having seen Africa on TV I wasn't really too keen on going, especially having to leave my husband behind for 2 weeks, however, I really wanted the chance to celebrate my Mum's wedding and who can turn down a free holiday! Mombassa, Kenya. some hints and tips!!

...Hi there everybody!! I recently travelled to Kenya and i just thought i'd share some of my experiences with you! I travelled to Mombassa Kenya in July of this year and i have to say i think it was the best holiday i have been on! I have totally fallen in love with Africa and the African people! I am even thinking about saving up so i can travel there sometime in the future with my friends! I stayed in a hotel called The Voyager Beach Resort, the hotel itself is situated on the beach and is approx. 10 mins from Mombassa Town. The views are breathtaking across the ocean and if you have a sea view room then this is what you are to wake up every morning for the next 2 weeks!! ...Aberdare National Park was made in 1950 to protect the forests of the Aberdare Mountains. It is a remote park, as it's hardly ever visited by travellers or safari companies. You must book in advance as you cannot take your own vehicles. The Park is located in the Central Highlands, west of Mount Kenya. ...Truly the best holiday experience I have ever had, we couldn't have found a better safari company during our trip to Kenya this summer. For us, an African safari was a once in a lifetime opportunity. We saw the most amazing sites, from the hot springs of Lake Bygoria to the majestic creatures that inhabit the Masai Mara plains. These things would have been unforgettable regardless, but it was such a relief that we could enjoy them and not have to worry about the logistics of the tour. Everything was taken care of and Magical Africa even arranged our travel onto Mombasa without taking a shilling in commission. Having said that, let me hasten to add that for the past six years I have been working in East Africa and fly on Kenya Airways about twice a month. So, this review is based on that experience. Ground Agents/Reservations: I usually purchase my tickets using a travel agent in Kampala that has served my very well for a number of years. ...Kisii is situated in Western Kenya, and is best known for Kisii stones. Kisii town has little to commend it as a tourist destination other than the splendid lush countryside - the area is one of the most fertile in Kenya. As with much of Kenya, the infrastructure is in a poor state of repair, and there are some people in extreme poverty. If you are white, expect to be pointed out by children and asked for money and sweets, especially in more rural areas where whites are pretty uncommon. The locals are friendly to visitors, especially where they think there may be business opportunities. Travel through Kisii by road is bumpy and risky although not as frightening as the Nairobi-Mombassa highway. (There are no trains.) ...We went to Kenya in January 2005 for three weeks. My partner had worked out there previously but it was my first visit. Rather than go to an all inclusive resort where they tell you not to leave the compound, we decided to look for private accomodation to rent. They tell you not to leave the compound due to it being dangerous but its only as dangerous as any other strange place you might visit!! You do have to have your wits about you but other than that its fine. Villa Mwangi is a private Holiday Cottage in Diani Beach. We found it on the internet and the pictures alone made you want to go!! It looked just like a private paradise.
