Superb hotel - Stunning location
Advantages: Friendly and efficient staff
Disadvantages: None!
...I have just returned from a fantastic visit to the Lake District staying just outside Keswick
Having previously stayed in Keswick itself at the Skiddaw Hotel, which I have previously reviewed, I decided that this time I would like a more rural location. I decided to stay at the Skiddaw's sister hotel, the exceptional Lodore Falls hotel.
Location
----------
The Lodore Falls hotel is located overlooking Lake Derwentwater in the Borrowdale Valley which is in the North Lakes area of the Lake District and is part of the Lake District Hotels Group. It has views of Loughrigg and Helm Cragg
It is built of traditional Lakeland Slate and has been there for over 200 years. Standing in over 40 acres with both lake frontage and the dramatic backdrop of the stunning Lodore Falls and the surrounding mountains I could not have wished...

An excellent friendly hotel
Advantages: Very Central Location
Disadvantages: At first - not easy to find
...I stayed at this hotel in April 2005 on my first solo visit to the Lakes. I wanted a good quality hotel with excellent facilities and I wasn't disappointed.
Location
The Skiddaw Hotel is located in the centre of Keswick in the Lake District, on the main pedestrian precinct close to the Moot Hall where you will find the towns tourist information office.
Do not be fooled by the current picture on their website, you cannot drive to the main door as they have now paved the town. Your best bet is to park up at one of the main town car parks and walk to the hotel. Once there you can ask them where their car park is, however they only have a couple of spaces. If you cannot park there they can provide you with a permit to park free in the public car parks for which you will need to pay a small refundable deposit of £20. The closest...

Opinion
Despite my reservations, this was actually a good day out and I found it very interesting.
The staff were friendly and informative, which is always a plus when you visit these places.
Well worth popping in if you are ever up in the Lakes (and not just because its raining!)....

Like going back in time
Advantages: Clean, decent breakfast, quiet, comfortable bed
Disadvantages: Car parking, receptionist, dated room, menu
...I needed to be in Workington earlier in the week for business & decided to stay over the night before in Keswick about 35 minutes driving time away. I've driven through Keswick before but never had the chance to see this charming little town so I decided to find a hotel or guest house in the area.
Easier said than done, I contacted five separte privately owned guest houses either by phone or email, no one answered the phones so I left messages. Of the five I contacted, one came back to me by email the following day with nothing to offer, one answered my phone message three days later & the other three, well who knows, what an incentive to stay there!
I contacted www.laterooms.com who found me a room at the Queens Hotel in the centre of Keswick for a modest £40.00 for one night including breakfast.
On the day I travelled from...

Famous cars in Keswick
Advantages: get to see famous and one-off cars up close
Disadvantages: no cameras allowed
...This place is a hidden gem! You wouldn't think of Keswick as being a tourist destination that attracts car enthusiasts, more the sort of place for hillwalkers, cyclists, lazy walks in the country....
One of the other museums in the town is dedicated to pencils for goodness sake! But This one is a cut above the rest. Granted it is not very big, and they don't have the space to display all of their vehicles at any one time, but you are always guaranteed to see a good few of your favourite cars from the movies and tv programmes.
The museum is easy to find, as is signposted in several parts of the town, and is located only a minutes walk from one of the main car parks. This makes it an ideal part of any excursion to this part of the lake districts, especially on days when the weather is not so good.
The time I was there, the cars...

Booking.com helps hotels cheat customers.
Advantages: extensive database of hotels, many quite inexpensive
Disadvantages: if a hotel cheats you, they will apologize, but do nothing.
...Booking.com: Colluding with Corrupt Hotel Owners to Cheat Customers?
I am sorry to have to write this review, but I have tried for months to get Booking.com to address my complaint. I have reserved rooms using this service in the past, and have been very pleased. This, however, came to an end this summer.
I booked a room at the Travel Inn in Reykjavik, only to find, upon arrival, that my wife, son, and myself were escorted to a car with no explanation. Eventually the clerk told us that we would be driven to the "other" location. The Travel Inn has, it seems, bought space in the Pavi Guesthouse (over a mile away). I would have refused on principle, but I know the situation in Reykjavik is such that I might have had no options. We were driven there, the driver stopped along the way to encourage me to withdraw money from...

Not so great at Melbreak
Advantages: Close to town
Disadvantages: Bossy owners!
...Melbreak house hotel is situated in Church Street in the gorgeous lakeside town of Keswick in the Lake District. Church Street is only a 5 minute walk from the centre of town so it is an ideal location. Myself and my husband absolutely love Keswick and regularly visit there.
The hotel looks very pretty and well looked after from the outside and is surrounded by similar looking hotels and bed and breakfasts. It is a family owned and run business, owned by a couple and their daughter.
The only parking available is on street parking which is not ideal. As the street is full of B and B's it can be quite difficult to find a parking space, and even if you do it may be a good distance from the hotel. However, the area is very quiet and I doubt that there would be much chance of anything happening to your car, but you can never be too sure...

Skiddaw Report
Advantages: Pleasant and challenging.
Disadvantages: None
... Introduction
Visitors to Keswick would fail to miss the majestic bulk that is Skiddaw. It stands proudly and in all its glory, surveying the land around it, like a sentinel guarding the people of Northern Lakes. This makes it different from the Lakes? other Three Thousanders (mountains over three thousand feet in height, of which there are four), that it is so easily seen.
The other three are not as well spotted as Skiddaw. Scafell Pike and Scafell are shy, rarely seen from the areas nearby and it is by heading their way on foot that their features comes into view. Helvellyn is the same, although the slopes are vividly seen from the A591.
One fails not to spot Skiddaw, even though many of Keswick?s visitors might well not known its name. Children throwing skimmers into Derwent Water with its shadow before them, wanderers...

Hotel International
Advantages: Location, breakfasts
Disadvantages: Poor rooms
...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights.
LOCATION:
The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal.
PRICE:
Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

sachas hotel
Advantages: good price,great location
Disadvantages: no window
...****Sachas hotel- Manchester****
I booked this hotel last minute as i had a job interview in Manchester and needed somewhere quite cheap ,that was also near the centre.
**Location/Getting there**
This hotel is located in Tibb street which is a 2 minute walk from Piccadily Gardens or 10 minutes away from Chorlton street bus station. The Train station is a little bit further away say maybe a twenty minute walk but i don't think that this is that bad .You can also get a tram from Piccadily gardens and this goes to quite a few places. You could also get a taxi to the hotel but i am not sure what parking is like if you were to take your own car.
**Reception/staff**
Since i had never been to Manchester before i phoned and asked the staff for directions -they were very nice and helped me out. When i got there i think i got the same...
