Grand Hotel Excelsior
Advantages: Beautiful View
Disadvantages: Apalling food
...As anyone who has read my early reviews knows- I love Italy! I've been going there now for the past ten years with my parents, and for the first time last year I made my own way there with the boyfriend for a nice Italian holiday. The Grand Hotel Excelsior was my residence for numerous weeks holiday, and it certainly not one for the faint hearted! In the Thompson guide book it is described as 'quaint' which to put it politely is rather an understatement. One thing that can be said for it is it is completely oozing with Italian charm.
ARRIVAL/ LOCATION
If you book with Thompson as we did (though other tour operators go to the same location) flights go from Manchester Airport on a Friday morning, taking just over 2 and a half hours to get to Naples International Airport. From Naples the coastal resort of Amalfi is approximately...

Does the Excelsior excel?
Advantages: Location - proximity to railway station
Disadvantages: No Internet access in rooms, not wheelchair-friendly
...I stayed at the Hotel Excelsior in Munich on a brief overnight stay following a business trip to Munich. The hotel had been recommended by the BayernLB, who I was visiting as part of the trip, and they'd been able to get me a very favourable rate - of EUR 118 for a night including breakfast which was a considerable saving over the rack rate for the hotel. It was particularly practical as the hotel was only a couple of hundred metres from the main railway station (Munich Hbf) which made it a good choice as I could drop my bags off on my way past on the way to the bank. I cose to check in at the same time - and despite the fact that my room was not ready, they were fine about this and had my luggage taken to my room as soon as it did become ready.
The hotel foyer was relatively small, with only a couple of reception desks, but these...

Yipee khyam
Advantages: Its sooo easy
Disadvantages: none that I've found yet
...This is the most convenient, quick to erect and roomy tent on the market and is excellent value for money. Now with an opening like that the review better prove it to you. But I am so convinced of my words that this is the first new product I have suggested to ciao and as such thought it only polite to be the first to review it.
The khyam rapidex ridgi dome system is revolutionary, gone are the days of feeding the poles through the canvas before you can put it up, or standing inside a tent holding it still while someone else does the boy scout thing and pulls the canvas over the top. Essentially the main body of the ridgi dome tent is permanantly attached to the canvas and it has quick release joints that just pop into place, once this is done the tent is practically up. The benefit of this is you can have a tent that is...

Khyam Vector PoP Up Tents.
Advantages: So auick & easy! Saves you getting wet when others are still constructing...
Disadvantages: None that I can think of!
...'s run over a car in St Malo (as mine was!)
Although I bodged it together for the rest of the trip you'll be glad to know that parts were readily available on my return & the prices weren't bad either!!!
Mine is the older door each side design which has since been changed to a door with single zip on the opposing side - not as usefull & a shame in my mind.
My sister has replaced the fly on hers with one of these new models & although not as good as the two full doors it is still better than most.
Weighs about 2kg or just over I think & pack size is sausage shaped measuring approx 500mm long with a 200mm Diameter which just about fits on a pannier rack or in a pack.
There are many tents in the Khyam range; the Vector is about the smallest going right up to a double bedroomed affair which has living space, where it is tall enough...

The ups and downs of a family tent.
Advantages: Lots of space for everyone.
Disadvantages: No longer made.
...The Khyam Michigan 12 was only made in 2007 so can be hard to come by now. But if you are after a large, well set out tent, and you find one of these then grab it whilst you can.
The tent is an outer pitch first, or all in one. Personally we leave the inners in place which reduces the pitching time.
The tent itself is large and can be difficult and heavy to put up. Saying that I am under 5ft and have limited mobility so if me and hubby can put it up between us then I'm sure others could easily. We have reduced the pitching time to around 30 - 45 minutes now, which is not bad considering. One good thing though, is that although the tent is large it still fits on most pitches so no extra charges.
The tent has 3 inners. All or some can be removed if wanted. The largest is 6 berth. This is used by our 4 children and is just big enough...

Tourer Tourer Tourer
Advantages: Easy to erect, quality tent.
Disadvantages: Pricey for some.
...If you are looking for a spacious tent that is easy to erect then you need look no further.
Description:
The tourer 400 is a 4 person tent that has a central living space and two bedrooms, one to the right and one to the left. The main section is high enough for us to stand up in and both bedrooms are well sized. The tourer 400 is offered in khaki/dark green/pistachio colour scheme so may be a little on the boring side if you like a stand out colour for your tent but its functionality more than makes up for that.
Erecting the tent:
I've been a fan of Khyam's external click pole system since I first used it 12 years ago. The ease and speed of putting up the tent is worth every penny. To erect the tent you pull up on a central point at the roof apex and then click opposing elbow joints into place. Next you extend the 4 poles to...

Saving the universe when your grandad was in diapers!
Advantages: Great effects and a wonderful cross over cast
Disadvantages: I would love to have seen more of the Enterprise 'B'
...Cross over of series and characters can be dangerours territory for feature films...but in Generations the cross over element of two of the greatest star fleet captains is done with great thought and a tremendous script.
The film opens with a bottle of champagne floating effortlessly through space until it hits the side of the Enterprise B...an Excelsior class ship. Now I was delighted to see this as one, I didn't know much about the Enterprise B and two, the Excelsior class has always been my favourite kind of starship...it was just such a jump up from the original Enterprise.
Captain Kirk and some of the well known other members of his merry crew are there to celebrate the inaugural flight of this great ship.
After the ceremony, recorded by loads of journalists (which is a GREAT moment - 'Captain Kirk, how do you feel about being...

A Day In Capri Italy
Advantages: Lots to see and do
Disadvantages: not enough time
...~ A Day In Capri ~
We booked a day trip to capri with a representative from our hotel (we were staying at the Excelsior Vittoria Hotel) in Sorrento this trip cost approx £50.00 per person.
We got the hydrofoil from the marina piccolo which takes about twenty to thirty minutes or so. As we approached Capri I was amazed at the view of elegant brightly coloured buildings and tropical trees and plants it really does take your breath away and looks a bit like Balamory with all the beautiful colours and shapes, I think you will see what I mean on the photo's.
~ AnaCapri ~
We got a minibus to AnaCapri which is the island's second (Ana-means other), quieter town with lovely little white houses halfway up the slopes of Monte Solaro (which is the highest point on capri), one of the highlights for me was the scenic...
