100,000 miles in a Kia Sportage

Advantages: Good Turning Circle, economy, reliability
Disadvantages: Low torque engine, short weelbase gives choppy ride

...although you need to stir up the gearbox when the hills get steep (not a problem solo). On the way back from Spain there is a very long, very steep climb over the French Border, the speed dropped to 30mph but the car dug in its heels and made it up with no hint of over heating. The only thing I would change if I could would be the petrol engine, a turbo-diesel would have been nicer for towing, it is revvy and not full of torque but it is reliable. I am now looking to buy a Kia Sedona 2.9TD as this will make towing easier but I am hanging on to the Sportage and hope to write another review at 200,000 miles!...

The Sportage hits the Sand

Advantages: Affordable fun 4x4 action
Disadvantages: Splitting wheel hubs

...The Kia Sportage, well what can I say ? This vehicle has the grunt of a Range Rover but at a very affordable price! I have had this vehicle for 18 months and put it through all sorts of terrains, Sea, Rivers, Sand , Mud and normal Condtions. The Sportage handled all situations with guts and ease. Being a sports boat owner I use my Kia to tow the boat taking it from county to county, country to country and again in all situation the Kia pulls as if there is nothing there. The Kia's petrol consumption is good in all environments whether round town, or long distance, the Kia always gives you 265 miles per tank regardless.   Like Riding On Corpses.

Advantages: This is a very affordable SUV.
Disadvantages: This is a very crappy SUV. Unless you only drive on paved roads for short distances, of course.

Actually, I should say that I’ve had the DISPLEASURE, as every time I get behind the wheel I find something else to hate about this, Korea’s weak attempt to bring Americans a Sport Utility Vehicle that Does Not Suck. 4 x 4 sporting fun

Advantages: nice and high and robust enough for the kids

...The Kia Sportage - well I'm on my second one, so that says it all really. I owned one and loved it but for personal reasons sold it on and bought a saloon. Within a year I had replaced the saloon with another Sportage (I missed it so much). They are great. So, on and off I've driven a Sportage for around 5 years now. It's robust enough to take a number of kids on the school run as well as half the hockey team (and all the kit) to our matches. It doesn't get treated very well but always comes back for more. It seems to like it rough! As to my driving, I think that is a bit rough as well, resulting in my second set of tyres within 18 months - that's my only real fault with the Sportage, but like I say it's really my driving rather than the tyres being at fault. ...Having 5 children we needed some thing a bit bigger than the rover we had. We started to look around and visit web sites for a people carrier. We also looked at the ones that we passed on the road and saw the Kia Sedona. It looked very spacious, a nice smooth curvy body. We went to our local Kia dealers and had a look at the different models of Sedona they had. We didn?t want a second hand one in case anything happened to it we would not of had a fall back plan. We looked at the Kia Sedona SX and decided that this was the one for our family and us. We could fold all the back seats down and push them forward and have a large backspace if we needed it, also when the seats were upright and pushed forward there was quite a lot of space in the boot department, which we were surprised about. Cool designed car. Solid and compact

Advantages: Love the exterior which different design compared to normal bullets
Disadvantages: Smaller interior than expected compared to the outside

...provides, as everything is very compact. I quite like the space behind especially with the foldable backseat which is just right to carry anything which is 3X3 such as the dog cage which I often have to transport around. Compared to the prices of other asian 4WD, sportage is a rather value for money buy. Would also recommend this car to people who are considering between a saloon car, 4DW and also MPV... Because the feeling of being higher is seriously much better with more view when stuck in a traffic and yet convenient when it comes to parking compared to MPVs. This car has an average size body which is quite easy to park... Won\'t mind getting another Sportage when I\'m done with this, but since its not giving me any problem and I\'m still very satisfied with its performance, don\'t think I\'ll get another new car anytime soon......
