KILLARNEY - A Town Reviewed
Advantages: Beautiful, unspoilt countryside. Captivating.
Disadvantages: You won't want to come home!!!
...***UPDATED***
Breathtaking scenery...
Unspoilt countryside...
A pace of life to be envied!!
An overview of one of the largest towns in Southern Ireland. All information was gathered on my trip to the Emerald Isle in July 2000.
Killarney Town
Killarney is a busy market town and the oldest and most popular tourist destination. That said it is not as busy or as much of a tourist trap as you think it is going to be. With ‘Killarney National Park’ and the ‘Ring of Kerry’ a short drive away you can easily escape into the beautiful unspoilt countryside of Southern Ireland
The town itself offers an extensive range of restaurants, entertainment and traditional Irish pubs. I would highly recommend 'Wilde Oscars' a bohemian, welcoming and stylish restaurant located in the centre of the town. A meal...

Funky Ross!
Advantages: Modern, nice rooms and great location
Disadvantages: May not be to everyones taste
...The Ross hotel is a boutique 4* hotel in the heart of Killarney town centre. I was here on a work trip at the very end of April and this was one of my favourite hotels of the trip. The majority of hotels in this area are quite traditional in décor but, the Ross is completely the opposite! It is very funky and as soon as you enter the lobby you can't help being impressed by the bright green, pink and black décor. I had been looking forward to seeing the hotel as soon as I found out we would be visiting and I have to say I wasn't disappointed.
First impressions:
I suppose to be fair the exterior is nothing spectacular - in all honesty it doesn't stand out on the street that you would really notice it unless you were looking for it. And since the lady who was taking around the hotel was brining us acrossfrom the hotel across...

A good choice for golfers and visitors to the Ring of Kerry!
Advantages: Clean and great packages provided by the hotel
Disadvantages: The location if you haven't got a car
...The Castlerosse was the last hotel I stayed at during my work trip to Ireland. It is a 3* hotel that is located in Killarney located overlooking it's own golf course. I wasn?t sure how much I was going to like this hotel as compared to the others it seemed of a lower standard and not a choice I would normally go for in terms of its style. It definitely wasn?t a hotel I would choose myself but, as this was a work trip I don?t get much say on where I will normally be staying!
Location:
The Castlerosse is located just outside of Kerry town centre. It is quite easy to drive in and out of the centre in less than 5 minutes but, it would be a bit of a walk should you not have a car with you. The hotel is right on the ring of Kerry outskirts and is definitely and ideal choice if you want a base to explore this region...

Im Telling You No Blarney
Advantages: Beautiful scenery, pleasant town, cheap hostel
Disadvantages: Somewhat touristy
...…The likes you’ve never known, of Christmas in Killarney…” Ahh… doesn’t that remind you of sitting around the Christmas tree, opening your presents and gorging on sweets while Mum plays her old Bing Crosby records? (Or is it just me…? :)
Okay, so it wasn’t actually Christmas – closer to summertime really – when we arrived in Killarney, a charming little town in the heart of County Kerry in the south of the Republic of Ireland. Having just spent a couple of days in Dublin and Cork, Killarney was quite literally a breath of fresh air. Though still somewhat touristy, the town is surrounded by spectacularly picturesque scenery: rolling hills, vast lakes and dense forests as well as an array of interesting historical monuments.
We arrived in the early afternoon and made our...

The Irish have all the luck
Advantages: beautil scenery, friendly natives,
Disadvantages: can get a bit damp
...We have been to Ireland twice now and always stay at the same place Kerry Mountain Cottages are just ace, situated at the base of the Kerry Mountains a short walk from the Gap of Dunloe. There are about 15 Cottages on a sloped site on the road from Killarney to Tralee, at a little village called Beaufort.
On our first visit we had cottage number one which as you might expect was the first cottage and at the mouth of the site, not the best one to go for, so on our second visit, when I was booking it up (with Swansea Cork Ferries) I requested that we have one with a view of the mountain and when we booked in (they use one of the cottages as an site office) they had given us cottage no 15 probably the best one on the site.
The cottages themselves have 3 bedrooms, a spacious lounge, fully fitted kitchens, dishwashers, microwaves...

Come and relax in this stunning location
Advantages: stunning location, large rooms
Disadvantages: located outside town centre - best accessed by car
...We stayed here as part of our honeymoon in September 2005. The hotel is located 5-10 minutes drive from Killarney town centre and has an absolutely stunning location. The hotel overlooks the lake with lovely views of the mountains (including Macgillycuddy Reeks) and gap of Dunloe. You can go for peaceful walks in the grounds and walk right down to the lake. There is a tea house in the grounds.
Bedrooms:
We were upgraded from a golf view room to a lake view room - these are definitely worth the extra money if you want to enjoy the view. The rooms were really large and had balconies. However the decor is not the most up to date - decorated in rather old fashioned orange and gold. The bathroom is also huge - with a bath on one side of the room and toilet and shower on the other and two huge sinks. Lots of nice extras like dressing...

A Fantastic Holiday On Kennedy's Open Pet Farm
Advantages: superb accomodation, beautiful place, very hospitable, ideal for young children.
Disadvantages: A long drive from England
...were slatted stairs and a marble floor at the bottom so not suitable for our young family but with grown up kids you could easily fit 2 families in there. There was a sun room which we used as a play room for the kids,3 bedrooms downstairs with 2 bathrooms one of which included a jacuzzi. The massive kitchen was totally equipped and they also provided a cot .All sheets were provided as was electricity.
The farm is situated in a small hamlet called Glenflesk on the N22 Cork to Killarney road .There is a pub,a church and a garage so this is not the place to come on holiday if you are after lively night life. We found the pub too far to walk to with young children but after taking the kids down a track to the farm (5 minutes, accessible by buggy)every morning and then going on afternoon trips to various places around Killarney National Park...

Beards, Banjos, Bums and Britain
Advantages: Brimming with interest, enthusiasm and laughs
Disadvantages: Too short by far
...Aside from being hysterically funny, and deliciously crude, Billy Connolly is also blessed with an infectious enthusiasm...for everything. It's this enthusiasm which leads to my only complaint about this dvd package, and thats that he is so engaging, that I could watch him forever, and 25 minutes per locale doesn't quite seem to do this project justice.
A 2 disc set featuring 8 episodes taking us from Dublin to Plymouth, finding time to squeeze in Belfast, Killarney, Newcastle, London, Manchester/Sheffield and Wales. Wales seems to suffer most, with just one show, and perhaps London deserved more too, but these really are minor quibbles in the face of such an enjoyable series.
With childlike enthusiasm Billy drags us by the hair from location to location pumping us full of useful or completely useless information, and naturally...
