Killers (1996) The James boys, two of America's most media-oriented killers, Odessa and Kyle have escaped from San Quentin's Death Row. In the midst of a fierce storm and pursued by law-enforcement officers, they find sanctuary by bursting in on and taking hostage the ideal American family, or so they think. After they discover that the daughters are two of their biggest fans, the mother isn't quite what she seems, and the father is perhaps more than their equal, the killers realize the cops are the least of their worries. And as the rain pours down and the dragnet moves closer, the question that emerges is, "Will the killers ever see the light of day?" I saw a midnight premiere of this movie in college and it quickly disappeared, but it stuck in my head long after I forgot the title, and I'm lucky I re-found it. No one in that theater knew what to expect from this movie, and it start out as everyone's worst nightmare: a cheap, clichéd crime drama. A lot of people walked out after the first 20 minutes, but I was determined to stick it through. And I'm really glad I did. At the twist point in this movie, the horrible clichés and acting and directing of the first half feel like an amazingly underplayed setup to a punchline with actual humor and shock. Imagine "From Dusk till Dawn" if the vampire angle hadn't been completely ruined by over promotion. It's really rare that a movie seems to be one thing but then turns completely around halfway through into something 10x better, but this is one of those. It used the low expectations and low budget to it's own advantage and turned out a movie I never forgot.

United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 0 DVD: LANGUAGES: Spanish ( Dolby Digital Stereo ), English ( Subtitles ), WIDESCREEN (1.78:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: Cast/Crew Interview(s), Commentary, Interactive Menu, Photo Gallery, Scene Access, Trailer(s), SYNOPSIS: Killer's Moon is Britain's answer to I Spit on Your Grave... only nastier. Produced in the late seventies it mixes lurid scenes of rape with dollops of ultra-violence and Clockwork Orange Droog style menace. Its story follows four drugged-up mad men who have escaped from the local asylum and seek refuge in a remote hotel where a class of stranded school-girls are staying. This is a true video nasty and is amazingly co-written by award winning author Fay Weldon. Remastered and featuring many extras including director/cast interviews and an audio commentary featuring director Alan Birkinshaw in conversation with JoAnne Good who played one of the menaced schoolgirls. A must for the collection! ...Killer's Moon

This 1946 adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's short story adds well over an hour of new material to the original tale. The reason is, while director Robert Siodmak, star Burt Lancaster, and an outstanding supporting cast are faithful to Hemingway's work, his story only takes up about 15 minutes of screen time. Burt Lancaster plays the doomed man sought by hired guns in a small town. Hemingway's bruisingly concise dialogue makes an early sequence set in a diner quite unnerving, but after the killers dispense with their prey, Siodmak turns to an insurance investigator (Edmond O'Brien) who looks into the reasons behind the murder. An exemplary film noir (complete with a fickle femme fatale played by Ava Gardner), The Killers is all mood and fatalism.--Tom Keogh
Advantages: Film Noir thriller at it's best with palpable menace and superb performances Disadvantages: if you don't like old films, it's not for you.
...Careful with that gun now
The Killers is one of the most superb film noir thrillers ever made. Simple as that.
I hope in saying that you?re not building its gallows high ? sorry, shameless reference, couldn?t resist
So some background. Made in 1946 by director Robert Siodmak, who was definitely one of the great directors of film noir, even if not always the most spoken...

Review of The Killers (DVD)
Advantages: it's black, light weight and the product lasts a long time Disadvantages: It's a less than average mascara
...I get bored of using the same cosmetics all the time so I like to change certain things such as mascaras, lipsticks and eye shadows, I had used one of Lancomes mascaras before so I thought that I'd try another one. My original plan was to buy the doll eyes mascara but the lady recommended Drama for what I wanted to achieve. Lancome mascaras and not well known for being cheap, per mascara it is...
Advantages: Fantastic performances all-round, McConaughey is particularly impressive, dark, sinister undertone Disadvantages: Very, very violent with a sick twist to some scenes, hasty ending
...If you think for a second your family is somehow dysfunctional, wait until you see what William Friedkin has to offer in ?Killer Joe.? The set-up itself may be too out there for some, but the more you sit through the latest dark comedy offering from the director of ?The Exorcist? and ?The French Connection,? (yes, he is still alive!) the more you will realise just how twisted everything becomes...
