...When Jerry becomes magnetised after trying to sabotage an electricity substation he thinks is melting his brain, he causes all kinds of problems for his best friend Mike. For a start he accidentally manages to erase all the tapes in the old-fashioned video store where Mike works. To keep their tiny band of customers happy, they decide to remake one of the films in Jerry?s scrapyard. One of a kind!

Advantages: attractive, interesting, cheap

...When I was younger, I was a massive fan of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen (and if I am honest, I still am). Their films and shows were fantastic, and I loved all the little bits of merchandise available for fans too. I wasn't aware of their book range however until I discovered one in a charity shop one day whilst having a rake with my Grandma. From that moment though, I found myself hooked to the series. The Two of a Kind book series is based on the TV show by the same name, which is all about the lives of Mary Kate and Ashley Burke. It takes us through Mary Kate and Ashley's life living with their Dad, Kevin, and their time spent with Babysitter Carrie. They go through all the normal problems teenagers do - basically it is the story of Mary Kate and Ashley but without the showbiz! The books are not taken from episodes of the television...

Be Kind and avoid.

Advantages: Jack Black, a few comical moments, ok storyline.
Disadvantages: Boring in parts, not very funny, a little silly at times.

...Review contains minor spoilers. I saw some clips of 'Be Kind Rewind' at the cinema recently and thought it looked as if it would be a very funny movie. It seemed to have plenty going for it. Jack Black, whom I love, takes the lead role and the wacky humour seemed as if it would be just up my street. Wrong!. Once again the advertising clips for a movie out performed the actual film. I suppose that these clips only actually showed all of the best bits of the film. However this film could have been so much better. The story revolves around a less than prosperous video store and its employees. The store owner, Danny Glover, knows that the age of video has nearly passed and that DVD's are the future. ...I decided this morning to write an opinion on a Queen album, and this is the result. Why chose ?A kind of Magic,? over such classics like ?Queen 2? or ?Innuendo?? Possibly because this is my personal favourite. Not that kind of girl!

Advantages: Enjoyable read, quite long so good for summer holidays, likeable characters
Disadvantages: Start of the book is quite slow

Not my kind of book!

Advantages: light reading
Disadvantages: a meandering plot and far too long

...I have read and enjoyed quite a number of boks by Catherine Alliott so I was really looking forward to her latest offering 'Not that kind of girl'. Unfortunately it did not live up to my expectations and in my opinion is not nearly as good as some of her earlier novels. I will attempt to explain why... Firstly, a basic outline of the plot. The main character is Henrietta Tate who has been happily married to her husband Marcus for fifteen years (although we learn very early on that previous to marrying Marcus, Henrietta was jilted at the altar by the love of her life, Rupert). They have an idyllic lifestyle living in the country but with the children away at boarding school, Henrietta has time on her hands and decides to take on a part time job in London. Disadvantages: awful science!

...plastic so it wouldn't be attracted to ANY magnet, no matter how strong it is so the tape shouldn't jump to Jerry's hand like it does in the shop. So having already jumped the shark for AWFUL science they attempt to make Ghostbusters. A few points on the original here. They DON'T catch the 1st ghost in the library, that's how they learn about PKE energy and form the ideas of how to trap ghosts. From that failure. So they screwed up there. Also Mos Def's remarks about Jerry being radioactive are complete garbage. He was exposed to electricity which is nothing like radiation. Idiot! It's also impossible for Jerry's urine to be magnetic. And any kind of magnetic effect he may have had (if it were actually possible) would dissipate pretty quickly and certainly not pass through his internal organs like that. Some Kind Of Brilliance

Advantages: Great cast, script and soundtrack.
Disadvantages: A little dated and idealistic in places.

...A couple of nights ago I took some of Mel's (Cheekychicken's) test on her profile page and I realized what most of you have probably sussed already...........I'm an 80's geek! So with this knowledge re-affirmed and a bit of prompting from Jo (yes, this one's for you PinkPrincess) I return to my series of ops on the films of the wonderful John Hughes. This time focusing on one one of my favourites, 1987's much-loved, but also much-neglected by many, teen-flick "Some Kind Of Wonderful". As with many of John Hughes' movies the plot centres around the outsider and, as usual, the outsider's friend. Be Kind, Don't Press Play

Advantages: A good concept but it didn't live up to its potential.
Disadvantages: Where do I start?

...Jack Black seems to established him as the funny man of the noughties. So when I popped to my local library to pick up a couple of DVDs, I didn't hesitate in picking up a copy of Be Kind Rewind. I'd only seen the infamous Jack Black in one previous film, Nacho Libre, which was a flop as far as I was concerned. In fact, I only endured the entire film to get my monies worth, having paid an entire penny to watch it using my TV on demand. Unfortunately for me, my memory chose not to remind me of that awful night as a paid my £2 and left the library in anticipation of an amusing evening. And so I climbed into bed to watch the film that the News of the World heralded as 'brilliant'.
