...Getting massively discounted tickets to the World Gymnastics Championships was an offer too good to pass up, but I assumed at the time that our good luck would end there and it would still not be the cheapest of weekends down in London. However, I managed to find train tickets from Manchester for £8 each way, and a room in this cheapie Travelodge for a too-good-to-be-true £35, turning our mini break into a bargain of a weekend. Kings Cross Royal Scot Travelodge

Advantages: Great Prices Available
Disadvantages: Make sure you are in good time for brekkie

...As with hotels in this chain you are able to get some really good rates. We recently stayed there for £26!! This is unbeatable value especially for 3 adults. THe hotel is about 5-10 mins walk from Kings Cross/St Pancras and is not difficult to find. The rooms are quite large in comparison to other hotels in the chain we have stayed at including a lot of storage space. The room was clean and tidy with a wet room/ bathroom which was also clean. The only fault we had was with the breakfast, it is supposed to be served from 7-10 am. WE arrived at around 9.30, what was left was cold and some of it there wasn't enough to have a portion, they did start to clear away at 9.55 so we had to eat up quick to get decent value. Other than that the stay was good and cheaper than more centrally located hotels...

Premier Inn, Charing Cross Glasgow

...I have never stayed in the Premier Inn before, but I felt I had to share my experience of the past weekend. The staff in both reception and the restaurant were fantastic, they were really helpful and made you feel right at home. The room and bathroom were both spotless, warm and the freeview television meant that my daughter didn't miss her soaps while she was away. The bed was both big and comfortable and we didn't have any trouble getting to sleep. We opted for the breakfast deal and we were not disappointed, the food was well cooked and warm there was also plenty of choice. Access to the hotel was excellent for both able bodied and non-able bodied people, we didn't have a wheelchair but we did have a six month old baby and a pram, and even though it is situated next to Charing Cross rail station we didn't hear a thing from...

I picked up this book the other day in Waterstones for around £5.99, although it was in the junior - young adult section I have heard nothing but good reviews about it! The storyline is about racism and the way that blacks used to be inferior to the whites, but this time it is reversed in this revoloutionary book! King of Queens

...King of Queens is an American sitcom set in New York. The King in question is Doug Heffernan and the Queens they relate to is actually the suburb of New York he lives in with his wife Carrie. I think this title is a really clever play on words and sets the scene for quite a funny sitcom in my opinion. Doug and Carrie are the main couple in this sitcom and it?s really them that the whole show revolves around. They have a nice relationship but bicker like most couples and they really play on each others stereotypes to get the laughs out of the audience.   Animal Crossing goes urban

...After playing Animal Crossing on the DS for a couple of years and finding that the game hadn't lost any of its addictiveness, we decided to get the Wii version. We were unsure what the differences would be between the DS and Wii versions as the only noticeable difference in the TV ads and on the packaging was the subtitle 'Let's go to the city'. I also spied a bus on the adverts that definitely wasn't in my old DS version. The back of the box alludes vaguely to what the differences are, but it didn't really explain it very clearly. However, the lack of explanation and the super cheesy adverts on TV with girls playing over the internet didn't put us off and, as we had some GAME vouchers, we decided to buy it anyway. Animal Crossing on the Wii

On Let?s go to the City you arrive at your town, (which you can name), after a ride on a bus and a chat with a mouse who tells you a few things and let?s you choose your name etc. When you arrive at your ton you need to head on over to the Town Hall, (you have a handy map to help you find your way around), and then buy a house. You get a hefty mortgage and you have to earn cash, (by selling bugs, fish, fruit etc), to buy clothes, furniture and of course to pay off your debt. As you pay off your mortgage you can upgrade your house which gives you another hue chunk of debt to work off! Your town will change as the year progresses with fishing...

When I had a friend staying I decided that a buffet would be a great place for a meal as you can guarantee that there will be something that we both liked there and it would be informal and reasonably priced.
