Air Arabia

Advantages: Cheap no frill airline covering the Middle East, N Africa and Sub-Continent
Disadvantages: Taxes often more expensive than the flight

..., such as Bahrain, has 2 flights daily from the UAE. Destinations: Ahmedarbad (India), Aleppo (Syria), Alexandria (Egypt), Almaty (Kazakhstan), Amman (Jordan), Assuit (Egypt), Astana (Khazakhstan), Bahrain, Beirut (Lebanon), Chennai (India), Chittagong (Bangladesh), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Damascus (Syria), Damman (Saudi Arabia), Doha (Qatar), Istanbul (Turkey), Jaipur (India), Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), Karachi (Pakistan), Kathmandu (Nepal), Khartoum (Sudan), Kochi (India), Kuwait, Latakia (Syria), Luxor (Egypt), Mumbai (India), Nagpur (India), Peshawar (Pakistan), Muscat (Oman), Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Sana'a (Yemen), Tehran (Iran), Thiruvananthapuram (India) & Yerevan (Armenia) Price: Like many of the no-frill airlines they advertise a flight for as little as 20 pounds, but of course that is a single and frequently the taxes are more then...

Review of Air Arabia

Kingdom of the Idiots

Advantages: Plenty of bang for your buck.
Disadvantages: It's appalling portrayal of Arabs.

...After an American enclave in Saudi Arabia is bombed in a terrorist attack, Special Agent Ronald Fleury negotiates a secret trip to Riyadh to find those responsible. He is accompanied by a team of experts including forensics examiner Janet Mayes, explosives expert Grant Sykes and intelligence analyst Adam Leavitt. But once in the desert kingdom, Fleury and his team encounter cultural and political opposition to their presence. As they unlock the secrets of the bomb site they uncover evidence of an extremist cell determined to cause further destruction. Actor-turned-director Peter Berg takes what could be a potentially insightful movie on American foreign policy and turns it into a brainless, balls-to-the-wall action fest. It is a celebration of gung-ho US ?might is right? propaganda aimed squarely at Republican whipping boys; The Middle...

Review of The Kingdom (DVD)

A totally different Culture

Advantages: Weather, People, Tax free
Disadvantages: No Booze! Womens rights, nightlife

...apstime, again thats all tax free (remember 17.5% vat in the UK too!), with items from anywhere inthe world available openly and cheaply it really is a paradise! You can also go to the souks where you can buy anything from the usual tat (coffee pots etc) to gold rugs etc, and barter for them (ppitrue the scene in the life of Brian!). The people are also warm and friendly, ready to welcome you and chat. Saudi food is lovely, and you must eat a schwarma and smoke a shieesha (a hubbly bubbly). The other great thing is the countryside, not just the images of sand dunes, there are those though! Most of hte country is a rocky desert, huge wadi's and escarpments dominate the desert. Any visit to saudi would be spoilt without leaving the cities to expereience the desert. Simply drive of the road a couple of km's and you are in the middle...

Review of Saudi Arabia: General

Work few years here for a better life in future

Advantages: It is a great place to make money!
Disadvantages: Very hot and humid weather !

...This is my general overview of the place , where I lived for thirteen years. It is about Saudi Arabia. Ofcourse, I was fortunate enough to live with my family . First of all, to be able to go over there , you need a work visa . You cannot visit this place on a visit visa . Other middle east countries like Dubai, Abudhabi , Muscat etc, you can visit with a visit visa . Saudi Arabia is a muslim country with strict laws . All the expatriates are expected to abide by the laws of that country . People who violate the laws are put in jail and executed every friday. Saudi Arabia as such is a very grand country , comparable to U.S in all respects , except for the freedom. It’s oil wealth makes it one of the richest countries in the whole world ! Petrol is very cheap here . You will find gigantic monuments everywhere...

Wonderful Riyadh

Advantages: Shopping, low prices.
Disadvantages: Lack of night life!

...hire a car. Hiring is cheap, but petrol prices are even cheaper. We could fill up our Discovery for about £20. A word of warning, Saudi road laws are less than impressive. Saudi nationals are able to drive when their father says they are old enough, so don’t be shocked if you see someone who looks like a 10 year old, they probably are 10… Shopping in Saudi is as good as anywhere in the world. Harvey Nichols has a store, as do countless other internationally known shops. But you can’t visit Riyadh without seeing the souks where you can pick up cheap jewellery! Cheap doesn’t mean low quality though. My mum brought a £1000 diamond ring in Saudi, which was valued at £15000 back in the UK, enough said really! Rates of crime are low, as you’d expect in a country with capitol punishment. If you so wish, every...

The Kingdom - Jack Bauer Could Have Sorted This One Out In 24 HRS

Advantages: Very good action scenes
Disadvantages: Would have like more characterisation

...The Kingdom (2007) I have had this film sat on my shelf now for a while and had not got around to watching it. As the pickings on the tv were a bit slim, I decided to give it a go. Basic Plot The story is centred around a terrible terrorist attack that takes place at the beginning of the film, in an American compound which is located in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - (hence the title). With the presence of American investigators being likely to further inflame an already volatile situation, America is told not to send any personnel; that Saudi Arabian police are quite capable of finding the people behind the attack. Not happy with this response, FBI agent Ronald Fleury (Jamie Foxx) blackmails an official representing Saudi Arabia in America and gains permission to have five days on Saudi soil to be satisfied that a proper...

Kingdom of Heaven

Advantages: Brilliantly shot with lavish sets and costumes and exciting action sequences
Disadvantages: Feels a little disjointed, Orlando Bloom doesnt quite work as the lead

...Often tagged 'Gladiator 2', Kingdom of Heaven is Ridley Scott's take on The Crusades during the 12th century, and fans of Gladiator should know what to expect; Elaborate sets and constumes; dynamic shots of armoured men in frenzied battle; a fearless yet tormented hero rising from the bottom to change the course of history. Balian (Orlando Bloom) a bereaved blacksmith, is approached by his previously unknown father, a crusading Lord named Sir Godfrey (Liam Neeson), and joins his father to fight the crusades, but his father and his men are ambused and killed en route and Balion ends up taking up his fathers office in Jerusalem, a Crusader stronghold in the Holy Land. There he becomes embroiled in a political struggle between rivalling orders of Christian knights, and after the tensions spill out into war and defeat at the hands of Saladin...

Arabian Experience

Advantages: Hot, Cheap, Good Living
Disadvantages: Restrictive

...I have not been to Saudi for almost four years now, but spent the first 12 years of my life there due to my fathers job. I hope this review helps you in your research of Saudi Arabia. There are many expats in Saudi that are working in the health sector in Saudi. I also remeber people from all over the world working at the hospital. From Sudan, Egypt, America, Phillipines, Syria, Yemen, Pakistan, India, and Sri Lanka to mention a few. A melting pot! We also used to live in a compound as many expats are. This had its advantage of security and safety, but it also but barriers up between us and the local population. One of my biggest regrets was not learning more Arabic. Within the compound we had tennis courts, badmington courts, a recreation centre, a resturant, a shop, and swimming pools. This common in all compounds...

Review of Saudi Arabia: General

an experience of a life time

Advantages: everything about the way of life there
Disadvantages: the moody arab men

...impressions were that it was a bit of a dump but the room was really quite nice. not the Hilton mind you....but hey.. the bathroom was a bit of a dissapointment but i guess the prices i was paying which was 18 pounds a night 4 2 double rooms it was pretty amazing..lol the bell hops in the hotels are very nice they do allsorts of jobs for you , even running accross the road to buy you a freshly squeezed lemon juice (which i strongly reccomend) but the reception service is terrible......(but i have herd that is common around all hotels in saudi arabia unless they are 5 star) i also stayed in the jabal omar hotel which is a 4 star hotel which was great. the service is great and also the rooms were alot more spacey and the view was good. SHOPPING the shopping in mecca is not all that brilliant but i guess your not really there to do...

Review of Mecca (Saudi Arabia)

Sex and the Saudi

Advantages: Quite revealing
Disadvantages: Quite badly written

...your way every day - a good looking meal-ticket and a life of luxury and constant sunshine but despite the obvious benefits, there was one big thing standing in the way; my utter dislike and contempt for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. That's not racism - I'm equally loathing of the regimes in Burma and China but Saudi is for me the worst example of a country with no rights for women. I'd long ago vowed that until women had rights (I don't even say 'equal rights' just SOME rights would be a start) I'd not spend a day of my life of a pound of my money in Saudi. So 'thanks but no thanks'. At the time I laughed it off. The idea that anyone could offer to spend the rest of their life with someone they don't know seemed preposterous. However, once I had read 'Girls of Riyadh' I was reminded of my suitor and came to realise with a shock that he...
