The King of theatre! Lion King at the Lyceum 2007
Advantages: An experience you'll never forget (this will be a long review!)
Disadvantages: I wanted to cry half the time the music was so moving.
..."the Lion King" will redefine your expectations of theatre. A specatacular feast, this adaption of disneys much loved film transports audiences to a dazzling world that explodes with glorious colours, stunning effects and enchanting music."
The Lion King originally opened on Broadway and was an instant hit, it came over to the uk in 1997 and has been resident in the Lyceum Theatre ever since. Most performances are sell outs and you have to book well in advance if you want good seats.

THE SHOW
In the following descriptions brackets contain songs accompanying the scene.
THE STORY-
Based on the original disney movie this stage version follows the story 99% with a few tiny added bits, these however do not detract from the storyline rather they...

King of the Stage
Advantages: Stunning, ingenious costumes and visuals, classic musical numbers well-performed.
Disadvantages: New songs and scenes are noticeably weaker.
...A stage performer is doubtless expected to be pretty versatile, and to be able to inhabit a variety of roles - nonetheless, the challenge facing the producers of the Lion King musical - of bringing the whole of the African Savannah convincingly to the stage - must have been a daunting one. If the prospect of bringing together a cast of anthropomorphic Lions, Hyenas, Elephants, Giraffes and the like is one you struggle to visualise, you should try to avoid seeing anything of the show before going, as the first scene is a spectacle like little else in theatre.
To the famous strains of The Circle of Life, the potential of the set design is immediately realised as a half-moon panel in the floor slides open and, with the centre of the stage rotating, Pride Rock rises up until it stands tall over the gathering creatures below. Each new...

A THEATRE WITH A VIEW
Advantages: Open air Theatre does not come any better.
Disadvantages: Those hard seats, do not forget the cushions.
...OPEN AIR THEATRE AT ITS VERY BEST.
The Minack Theatre is located next to Porthcurno Bay which is just off the B3315 between Lands End and Penzance.
For persons like me who do not drive, there are Scheduled Bus Services from Penzance. the 300 and the 1A which both stop in Porthcurno Valley, the theatre is a further 400 meter walk up a steep hill.
For full details of the Events at the Minack and further pictures visit its own web site WWW.MINACK.COM
The Theatre was built, honed out of the rocks by a young woman ROWENA CADE with the only help being from the families gardener.
It is now a 750 seat theatre, staging a wide range of events. Shakespear , what better setting for the Tempest than a cliff side setting.
Opera, Drama, Musicals they are all there.
We have visited the Minack for several Plays...

The Marlowe Theatre
Advantages: Great range of shows, nice layout, good facilities
Disadvantages: None
...About The Marlowe Theatre
The Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury was redeveloped in 2005 and currently it is spread across three floors. Inside, there are two auditoriums, one of which has 1,200 seats and the other one has around 200 seats. Also inside is a bar on each of the three floors, a café and a hospitality suite.
Where Is The Theatre Located
The Marlowe Theatre is at the lower end of the City centre and is easily accessible whatever you choose at your mode of transport. There are plenty of car parks only a few minutes walk away and there is even a car park behind the theatre. The train and bus stations are also only a 5-7 minute walk away.
What Can You Do At The Marlowe Theatre
There is a large variety of performances held at the Marlowe Theatre and these include plays, concerts, festivals, musicals, dance shows and of course...

King of the Musicals
Advantages: amazing story, the best actors/actresses, costumes amazing. EVERYTHING!
Disadvantages: expensive tickets, but they are worth it.
...I am a keen lover of all things singing and dancing. I have loved the ‘Disney’ story of The Lion King since it came out at the cinema, and was dying to see the show at the Lyceum Theatre. I was lucky enough to see this award winning musical last year.
The story:
Young Simba is son of the King of Pride Rock, Mufasa, so is heir to the throne. Simba (a lion) meets Nala (a lioness) when they are young, and they become best of friends. The beginning of the story tracks their friendship, which turns into love when we see them age. Simba’s father dies, when Scar (the baddie!) kills him in order to be King. Simba is supposed to become king, but Scar ends up taking over the throne through his lying to Simba and banishing him from Pride Rock. Nala finds Simba, who has befriended Timone and Pumbaa, a warthog and his...

The Ultimate Family Theatre Experience
Advantages: Wonderful music, costumes, great un-Disneyfied adaptation
Disadvantages: None
...I first saw The Lion King in the West End when it opened in 1999 and was very dubious about how well it would transfer from the screen to the stage. However, as soon as the curtain went up, all of my expectations were blown away. The Lion King is the perfect family show and it's easy to see why it still plays to sell out audiences now and why it was both mine and my sister's top choice to see on our recent trip to New York, despite having seen it only a few months before in the West End.
The Lion King plays in New York at the Minkskoff Theatre just off of Times Square. Sadly, due to its wide appeal and popularity, tickets aren't cheap and are not easy to get hold of - we paid about $100 each for our seats in the orchestra stalls and definitely book well in advance (don't wait until you arrive in New York!) as shows tend to sell out...

King Of The Musicals
Advantages: Costumes, sets, voices, acting, everything!
Disadvantages: Quite costly but then it is the west-end...
...see one show EVER, make sure this is the one. Phantom used to be my favourite but this show beats it, hands down.
You leave the theatre thinking...wow! What just happened? This is definitely a show you should see before its run ends (it has just been extended another 3 months). You won't regret it....

Theatre with a dramatic background!
Advantages: spectacular backdrop of the sea, very cheap
Disadvantages: performances only of an evening
...Previously when I have been to Cornwall and the weather has been good we have spent most of our time on the many beaches. This time however the weather was poor, with lots of wind and rain - not the sort of weather you want to be sitting on the beach in, unless you're a surfer of course and then I suppose it is ideal! This didn't really matter too much though because it gave us a chance to visit many of the famous sights and attractions. We visited lots of places including Saint Michaels Mount and the Eden Project, but probably the most charming thing that we visited was the Minack Theatre in Porthcurno. Unlike many of the other attractions it had a real Cornish feel to it and was really worth seeing.
For those of you who have never heard of the Minack Theatre (and that's probably most of you) it's a really spectacular place...

King of Queens
Advantages: Funny, good characters
Disadvantages: None
...King of Queens is an American sitcom set in New York. The King in question is Doug Heffernan and the Queens they relate to is actually the suburb of New York he lives in with his wife Carrie. I think this title is a really clever play on words and sets the scene for quite a funny sitcom in my opinion.
Doug and Carrie are the main couple in this sitcom and it?s really them that the whole show revolves around. They have a nice relationship but bicker like most couples and they really play on each others stereotypes to get the laughs out of the audience. For example Doug is rather fat and so they definitely play this up on the show. He is generally always eating my Carrie facilitates this by buying him or making him his favourite foods. Doug is played by the very funny Kevin James who has been in movies such as Hitch, I Now Pronounce You...

The Lion King at the Lyceum a super duper time.
Advantages: An enjoyable evening in London
Disadvantages: None
...I went to see the Lion King at the Lyceum last week 3rd January 2008. It was an amazing experience and I would recommend it as a musical to watch for all people and ages.
The story is the same as the film with couple of extra songs and lines added in. A true fan of the films can still say all the lines along with the musical.
The performance was amazing with the performers using their costumes and props to their advantage. The effect of getting so many animals on stage with few cast members was amazing. The music is live and you can see the percussionsection in the boxes at the side of the stage. The musical made you feel involved as the performers came through the audiance and also stood in the boxes. It is especially noticiable at the start of the second act.
I have to say at the time I went the lady playing Rafiki was very...
