Kingston USB 2GB Flash Drive

Advantages: Speed of small transfers

...Hi today I will be reviewing a Kingston DataTravler 2GB USB Flash Drive. I bought this a few months ago after losing my other flash drive. It cost me 9.97 from PC World but I believe you can get them cheaper in other places. Speed For the data that I transfer to it i.e. pictures and some small visual basic programs it transfers them extremely quick compared to some cheap flash drives I have used in the past. Problems So far I have had no major problems other than in windows vista it is not capable of running ReadyBoost which a free flash drive I had a while ago could. Size The overall size of the flash drive is quiet good the USB connector slides in and out with a rather flimsy press and slide switch. ...I have searched for a decent USB pen drive, which not only works well with both my Mac and Windows computers, and after a few disappointing Ebay buys I found the Kingston Data Traveller. At prices from £10 for a massive 1GB drive this has to be the bargain pen drive for every student or office worker out there. To start with it is simple plug and play with both Mac and Windows makes this drive so easy to use. Just plug it into your USB drive (both USB 1.0 and 2.0) and the drive instantly starts working, no drivers or downloads needed. It comes in many capacitys but i choose the 1GB version. Although actual size is just under a GB (as with all flash drives) it is still a huge amount of data. If all you need to transfer is documents then this will never ever fill up! ...I gave my 2GB Kingston flash drive a few months ago and I think it's really great. I can use it for Microsoft Windows Vista ReadyBoost to speed up my PC. It's not too expensive and it has got a life-time warranty. It's really fast and every operating system contents a driver to use it. If you want to buy a somewhat cheap flash drive, and need a good quality buy that. Most of new PCs can boot from USB nowadays. Thanks to the USB 2.0 technology I can boot up my favourite live Linux distribution from it and I can save it back when I finished the work. You can use it for system rescue too but if you don't need these special "features" just use it to store and move data. :)...

Victorinox Swissbit USB flash drive - 1 GB

Advantages: Durable and Well built. Nice Design.
Disadvantages: Doesn't have any Swiss Army Knife accessories.

...and Apple Macs with no problems. The manufacturers claim that it will work with USB 1.1 ports but it doesn't work with those in my keyboard. The transfer of data is as fast as any other flash drive I have used. The drive comes preloaded with security software to prevent unauthorised access to your data although this only seems to be compatible with Windows machines. I picked this stick up for £15 which is a bit expensive for the amount of storage but not too bad. Overall this a decent USB stick that works well and is a more attractive design than most. It feels very durable and well put together. The 1 GB model is large enough for everyday use although there are larger sizes available. Some people may prefer Victorinox's other USB Swiss Army Knives which have the usual knife and accessories in addition to the USB stick. However...

...Having gone through five flash drives in the past year alone It felt like I was searching for the holy grail. They all either fell apart or stopped working or both. Then I found the Kingston Mini Fun drive, a cool little flash drive that works for a change. Its dirt cheap and yet is brilliant. Design: The flash drive is about an inch long and is bears resemblence to a peice of lego. It has two bumbs on the top and hollows on the bottom (see picture) so you could literally stack them up in a tower, well if your bored anyway! The device comes in four colours: Orange (256MB), Blue (512MB), Yellow (1GB), and purple (2GB). The cap comes off and plops on the bottomto form a perfect thumb shaped hollow. Kingston USB flash drive

Advantages: Small, stylish, very lightweight yet seems robust
Disadvantages: I suppose it's only 128mb yet plenty for my use

...Purchased this from ebuyer for a mere £8 - its now gone up a bit - but still a bargin. I mainly bought it to store backups of important letters and spread sheets, however thought I would see how it worked first with it being so cheap. Plugged it in to my USB port and sure enough XP recognised it staight away ( you can download drivers for 98 etc as they are not supplied). For my first time using one of these Flash Memory Drives it was very easy, it appeared as an extra hard drive under "my computer" in XP, opened it up and decided to copy and paste a few pictures to take around to a mates PC - just to see how it went. The jargon on back of packet says you can store 96 pictures from a 3MPcamera - I'm already up to 100 and it will take more - so it obviously depends how your camera compresses them.
