...Ho hum what can I say about Kirby cleaners.......well they are a fantastic ‘hoover’ to coin a phrase. They clean your carpets, curtains, beds, windows, work surfaces, cars, patios, strip wall paper yes I kid you not! They do just about everything around the house except for making a cup of tea, the dinner and have a ciggy! They are a bizarre looking ‘hoover’ looking like an antique but coming with the most amazing array of attachments imaginable. If you can think of a household chore, then the Kirby can do it! I have never ‘owned’ one of these amazing things, but I have spoken to people who have, and I have also seen this machine in action. I was ‘referred’ by a friend, that is how Kirby drum up their trade, you have to refer 5 people who you think would benefit from one of these...

Super Kirby Ball

Advantages: Great way to control Kirby | Lots of stuff to do

...How can you make a pink blob look all serious and commanding? You can't though Nintendo try. In Japan Kirby is all happy and smiling but when he comes to America and Europe he's got an angry face with adorns the boxes. Kirby may not be Nintendo's most popular character but he's been in plenty of nice enough games such as Kirby and the Amazing Mirror and some not-so nice games like Kirby Air Ride. Luckily his debut on the DS lands the lovable pink guy on the right side of quality. In Kirby Power Paintbrush (or Canvas Curse/Touch! Kirby depending where you live) our little pink friend is in a spot of bother. Review of Kirby: Canvas Curse (Nintendo DS)

To kirby or not to kirby

Advantages: can do loads of different jobs
Disadvantages: Bloody expensive, you wont use it other than to clean the carpets

...I'll admit that I am an owner of a Kirby and that I only bought one because my husband sold them for 2 weeks! On the whole, it is a very good hoover (sorry, KIRBY), but when I think what else I could spend my £55 a month on I could cry. When the demonstration is done it's very effective, especially when they use the machine to clean your mattress. You end up thinking that you'll never sleep in your bed again until you've got the Kirby on it. In reality, despite having had my Kirby for over 6 months, I've never used it on the mattress. It's quite a bulky machine, and when the bag is full it's also very heavy. Try carrying it upstairs when you're 8 months pregnant like I was and you could do yourself an injustice. Yes, it comes with a multitude of attachments so that you can hoover the curtains, the floor, the beds, shampoo...

...Like everyone else in Ciao who has written reviews on the infamous Kirby, I too once worked to them. I was only there for a few months, but it that time you learn quite a bit about the product itself and the sales techniques when you are working about 80 hours a week for them. As many of the other reviews have said, the Kirby is an outstanding product. In the short time that I was employed by them, I did roughly 80 demonstrations and sold 3 machines. What I will do in this review is go through the demo as I was taught to present it, and will hopefully be able to shed some light on what in the salesman's script is true and what is a load of hogwash- a Kirby salesman will always be willing to tell you that the moon is made out of blue cheese and that Elvis is now working as a porter in the Holiday Inn in Bangkok if he thinks that...

...I too had an awful kirby experience, trying to frighten me with all the science facts etc. I felt very intimidated especially when one of the sales guys followed me downstairs and tried to go through my phone book with me to get the names and numbers of others they could prey on. I expected a free carpet clean not a two hour demo and at the end my carpet looked no better. I was also gob smacked why they asked to use my phone when they had their own mobiles. Thankfully the battery was dying so the sales pressure over the phone only lasted 5 minutes before the phone died. I had the will power to be forceful and was also lucky to have my husband working from home that day so wasn't pressurised into buying one but can see how other people could be. remember nothing is for free so if you get offered a free carpet clean don't accept it...

The all singing all dancing Kirby G5

Advantages: Has good suction, is built to last and comes with a shampooer.
Disadvantages: It's quite heavy and you have to disconnect the main upright head to attach the pipe attachments for doing the edge of the carpet.

...I worked as a demonstrator for Kirby for a short time, demonstrating the G5. It was certainly not the nicest job I've ever done, but that's another story entirely. At the time I had a Dyson and after comparing it to that I decided I would have to save up for a Kirby of my own. I was lucky enough aquire a lightly used second hand one recently for £300. The Kirby has extra attachments the main one being the shampooer which you will more than likely get with the vacuum cleaner when you buy it. I'll tell you more about that later though. Then there is a sander attachment, which tends to come separate to the main machine. I have not yet had the opportunity to use the sander attachment yet so I can not comment on the effectiveness of it. My parents have used theirs though and haven't made any complaints, so I guess that's a good sign. You...

Advantages: so many machines in one. motor driven lightweigt to use
Disadvantages: A bit heavyto carry upstairs (you just need to carry it by handle base)

...Hi, I I have a Kirby it is a fantastic machine but you do have to learn how to use it properly, I have the floor polisher attachment with mine and I just couldn't get the hang of it and as I have wooden floors downstairs I really needed to use it so I rang Kirby and said I thought the floor polisher attachment didn't do what they said it would, so they sent an engineer to show me the right way to use it and now it polishes the oak floors beautifully ! once you get the hang of it you'll find that it does so much more than an ordinary vacum cleaner, the sales reps in the UK are not as agressive any more mainly because they want to lose the old image of pressurised sales, the Kirby sells itself because of what it does, its so many machines in one and beleive me its not a gimmick, and yes it is expensive but you can always negotiate a deal...

KIRBY G6 CLEANER RUINED MY CARPET ...

...I have had a kirby for 5 months and they seem great on the outset. One day my kirby decides to have asurge in power and pulls up an eighteen inch thread from a flat carpet and threadbares my carpet completly. Being a large company you think I would have been treated fairly but no. I send e mail to explain my problem and I am ignored, I send a second and i am told a representative will contact be shortly to look at theroblem , un-beknown by this kind soul at head office I have already had the franchise who sell your kirby knock my door , puff his chest out and act intimidating as I have "missed a payment" and was going to " take my kirby away from me" Funny that already paid over 400 pounds and yet he can waltz in and take my property away without a question , so much for compnay integrity. Advantages: Superb cleaning power, loads of accessories
Disadvantages: heavy, a bit awkward sometimes and bags and cleaning liquids are hard to get and expensive

...At £1,600 you would probably gag before buying this, however there is a 40year guarantee on parts and I don't think you can beat it when it comes to deep down cleaning. For example for years we used our panasonic cylinder vacuum recommended by Which best buy. It was good but if we used our vax, alot of dirt still came up indicating that it had not deep cleaned. After the Kirby, the water in the vax is almost clean! Disadvantages, be very wary its bl#@£%y heavy. My wife can't lift it up the stairs and the cleaner refused to as well so I have to take it up before she arrives! I now even considering and "upstairs" vacuum. Bags are a bit of a faff to get as you have to ring up the central stockist and order them. Kirbby is a still relatively small supplier so you won't find a local branch.
