We didn't have to think for very long about where we wanted to go. We had considered Debenhams but they didn't have enough of a range to pick from and we wanted something a bit more upmarket shall we say! John Lewis shopping how it should be

Advantages: Great value, great choice
Disadvantages: Not very many stores!

...sell an ok ish range of means clothing although this is getting better all of the time. The largest brand they sell is Guise which is an in-house make; although Guise clothes are never going to set the fashioned worlds blazing they do offer good value for money and a wide range of casual and more formal clothes for men. The men's department offers a good range of causal clothes and do lots of holiday type summer clothes in the right season. Some makes that are stocked include: French Connection, Ted Baker, Reis, Tommy Hilfiger, Polo/Ralph Lauren. They also do a good range of formal wear including shorts, suits etc including makes such as Pierre Cardin, Daniel Hechter etc. John Lewis furniture is also on the ground floor and they have a great range of kitchens, electrical goods for the home, bedroom furniture, garden furniture...

Is John Lewis For Me?

Advantages: Classy, different, special.
Disadvantages: Shop assistants tend to be a bit pushy.

My viewpoint was that this was a posh store, a bit snooty and not really for me. Let me say, I have only been to a John Lewis store once and mainly shop on-line. John Lewis stores to visit are special shops, quite posh, but you feel good shopping there. My viewpoints have changed now and although I wouldn't shop at John Lewis all the time for special occasions and gifts it's very good. John Lewis?...A good Lewis

...Lewis logo is proudly displayed and in full view so everyone will know they are there. Inside the store continues to shine with its impressive collection of goods that range from TV's to spoons. I occasionally have problems in some stores knowing where to look if I go in looking for a specific item. In John Lewis however I find it exceptionally easy. All areas are well labelled and there is always a worker handy to ask if ever I can't find what I'm looking for. I also find products are well grouped, what you expect to find in the for example 'Kitchen' area you will find in there and not in another strangely named department like in some other stores I have been in. There are both escalators and lifts available and access for the disabled is very easy. The aisles are wide enough to accommodate for large numbers of people which is a plus...

John Lewis's, I wish I was rich!

Advantages: Good stock, classier than Debenhams!

...was where the fun started to happen and is where you can find the china, glasses and silverware (a must for any wedding list), in addition to soft furnishings, lighting, clocks, art, textiles, gifts and kitchen type small appliances. Further on downstairs was the menswear department which we didn't really look at as we had spent loads of time scanning stuff on the floor above. On this floor you will also find the audio and TV departments, large electrical appliances and seasonal items. The range of items that you can get is fairly large, with a lot of the major names being present. The own brand John Lewis items however looked good quality and would not be something I was ashamed of buying. John Lewis is my shopping mecca

Advantages: friendliest staff you could meet, well established
Disadvantages: price matching is a bit suspect

...for shopping and shopping in John Lewis. Now to the pricing. I wouldn't say I buy everything I need in John Lewis as the pricing policy confuses me slightly. John Lewis is competitive but mainly with other high street stores and their policy of price matching means you have to fill in a form and give them details of where you found the price. So you can't buy an item until they have checked this out. This puts me off, so I have never tried this and do not know how long it can take. Furthermore, John Lewis does not price match with internet, which is reasonable. But the John Lewis internet site does not price match with other internet sites so I find that a bit bemusing! Also, I wouldn't say I agree with the "Never Knowingly Undersold" blanket quote across the whole of John Lewis John Lewis pricing never exceeds RRP, so if other...

John Lewis - Laptop Heaven

Advantages: Fantastic friendly staff, salespeople that aren't on commission, 2 year warranty on laptps
Disadvantages: End up spending too much because I love it there

Advantages: Small, easy to move around the room.
Disadvantages: High price for low build quality.

Images of trying to hold the aerial perfectly still with one hand, the remote in the other and tuning the freeview receiver all at the same time inevitably spring to mind.
