...My new kitchen. Not completely finished yet! Well we ordered and had fitted the essential kitchen units just before Christmas. We decided to wait till after Christmas and we had paid a few bills before we would order and install the remaining units. That way I would have a better idea of what units I needed. The new units I have ordered will arrive in early March. When we decided to build our extension on the house we thought a long time about refurnishing the kitchen area. We were getting rid of M F I kitchen units left by the previous owners and although serviceable they had not been good. We went round all the kitchen shops that sell ready to build kitchen units they were a very good price (cheap) but we thought they were flimsy and would not last as long as we would like. Marco's Kitchen

Advantages: Marco, celebs getting flustered
Disadvantages: not long enough

...I was once told that I was just like Marco Pierre White. Taking this as a compliment I mearly assummed that they were referring to how incredibly talented I am when working with food. Sadly this was not what they were getting at. I have recently discovered that it was more down to the fact that a lot of the time I say things which make no sense whatsoever! This is one way is what can make Marco's Hell's Kitchen so funny. I never watched it when Gordan Ramsey was doing it. But since Marco has taken over I've become completely addicted to it. Down to the fact that they've cut down the programme from what was 90 minutes to the hour, the amount of cooking where we actually got to see how they were doing it has been decreased. Appareantly due to the fact that ITV are 'skint' they couldn't afford to get any celebrities of a high standard...

Not in my kitchen!

Disadvantages: expensive, time consuming, poor customer relations

...she already had an annexe but no cooking area. This seemed reasonable so we converted a garage for her use as a kitchen diner. We valiantly suggested she keep her own solid oak units as we were having new ones anyway. This necessitated ripping out our kitchen 12 weeks ago in order for hers to be built. Finally, a fortnight ago the work on our own new kitchen began in earnest. There is a colossal amount of rebuilding, knocking walls down, re- laying pipes, putting in a bigger boiler and moving that to be done before we will be ready to refit the kitchen. The problem with doing that is that we didn?t have the exact measurements and proportions until the last minute which left very little time to design and order the cabinets, worktops etc. It was suggested to me that Kitchens Direct might be an option, so I contacted them. ...Having purchased and fitted an IKEA kitchen in 1993, and being very happy with it for the next 7 years (until we moved house!), I didn't really bother looking anywhere else for my most recent kitchen. I was delighted to find that, although the narrowest (30cm wide) units have now been discontinued, the range has otherwise been improved and offers excellent value and quality. IKEA offers a very good range of basic units, all of which are customisable by adding your choice of doors, drawer fronts and interior fittings. All the ranges are, in my opinion, very reasonably priced. You'll have to get a catalogue or visit the website or store to see just what's available! We planned our kitchen with 3 things in mind: cost - having just paid for an extension, our budget was limited; durability - our kitchen gets good use; staying power...
