Skiing in Kitzbuhel-for those who go to SKI/BOARD!
Advantages: Good Slopes, Good Bars, Short airport Transfer
Disadvantages: Dated Ski Lift System
...Ive been heading to the slopes 2/3 weeks a year for the past 20 years and have been all over the world, but until now never to the infamous Kitzbuhel.
Booking last minute, I expected big things of this place , so famous for its runs and its village style resort.
The slopes did not dissapoint, nor did the weather, skiing in early march is risky and with Kitzbuhel being at 'low-level' I was worried. The amount of snow seemed to suprise even the locals.
Pistes of varying degrees of difficulty were well kept, but changed in difficultly with every corner, which made it great fun for the more experienced of us, but hard going for begginers.
There were a lot of 'Tracks' which were very flat in places and walking was common, Snowboarders beware!
The lift system was also very dated, with one main gongala giving access to the mountain...

Glitzy Kitz
Advantages: Great skiing for intermediates, fantastic night life, brilliant resort
Disadvantages: Some queuing for lifts, crowded buses
...I have just come back from a fabulous week's skiing in Kitzbuhel. I had visited the resort over 10 years ago and was interested to see how much I could remember and how much had changed.
Kitzbuhel is a world famous resort situated in the Tirol, Austria. It is a charming place with cobblestone streets and painted buildings. The resort itself is not very high lying at only 2,600 feet above sea level but still has a pretty good snow record, we were really lucky as all the pistes were open and snow conditions were truly excellent.
We booked the holiday with Cristal holidays, flying from Gatwick to Salzburg on a Thomsonfly charter flight. the transfer from the airport took about an hour and a half and we duly arrived at the Sonnenhof hotel, a short walk from the town centre. It was too late to collect our skis and boots on the first...

These mountains are for more than just SKIING DOWN
Advantages: Fantastic scenery, good transport links, not too expensive - if you know where to go...
Disadvantages: Too tourist-oriented, expensive shops
...we stayed at the Gasthof Hasslesberger (very close to the cablecar station at the bottom of the Hahnenkamm), which I would give 5 stars any day - it was superb in every way. We normally go for family-run 2/3 star establishments (we tend to go through Inghams, which we have found far better than Thompson, Chrystal, and Enterprise, the other tour operators that we've been to Austria with), and these normally provide just the right level of quality, inexpensiveness, and unobtrusiveness. (Ingham's reps tend to be less pushy than most too, but are there when you need them.)
If you want to go on a hiking / rambling holiday, Kitzbühel is perfect due to the wonderful surroundings and plentiful chair lifts etc if you find yourself suddenly too tired to walk down the mountain you've just climbed up. Obviously a good map is useful...

My Hot And Wet Alpen Love Affair
Advantages: The scenary, the mountains, the food, the air - everything!
Disadvantages: If you are not a walker, you maybe could get bored - nah! It sometimes rains
...I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love! As I lay in my enormous bed I look through the open doors leading to the balcony and beyond. The early morning light gently sucks up the darkness exposing the peaks of the mountains and the rich plushness of the lower meadows. Mmmm, if this isn't paradise then I don't know what is.
You know how it is when you arrive somewhere and you straight away think, 'this is me, it's where I belong'? This is how I felt about Kitzbuhel. The minute I stepped off the bus the clean air and rich colours made me feel alive and invigorated. St. Moritz? Aspen? Pah! Kitzbuhel is 'the' mountain destination to be.
The town is situated in the Tyrolean region of Austria midway between Innsbruck and Salzburg. It's 800m above sea level and nestles between the Kitzbuheler Alps and the Wilder Kaiser mountains...

The Alps In Summer
Advantages: Magnificent scenery.
Disadvantages: Not a lot.
...~ ~ Trust ‘the mad cabbie’ to visit one of Europe’s most renowned ski resorts in the height of the summer!
Kitzbuhel is a small Austrian town situated high in the Austrian Alps in the famous Tyrol area of Austria, and probably best known for its famous downhill ski race which takes part here every winter season, and which attracts the cream of the world’s skiers.
It’s about an hour and a quarter drive from the nearest main airport in the city of Salzburg. The drive from Salzburg itself is a memorable experience, with roads which wind their way past enormous mountain peaks, tumultuous rivers, and huge lakes, and which immediately gives you the sense of awe that never really leaves you when visiting this truly spectacular part of the world. I was struck straight away by the huge predominance of four...

Subterranian fun in Austria
Advantages: Interesting, educational and fun
Disadvantages: 9 degrees and damp
...a blanket to wrap around your shoulders and keep the chill out.
Austria and in particular Vienna, is a wonderful destination for any holiday maker, the Seegrotte was only one of the many sights we managed to take in on our week away, the people are very friendly, the scenery is amazing and Vienna in particular is just brilliant, we loved it so much we are already planning a return!...

Kitzbuhel Great place to go
Advantages: Excellent veiws and their is loads to do either in Kitzbuel and via day trips.
Disadvantages: Eating out can get expensive, I suggest going half board as this will keep the cost down.
...When you think of mountains in Austria if you think of them at all, on the whole most people think of skiing and winter sports. As I found out this year there is a lot more to the mountains than just snow and ski?s.
For our holiday this year we went of to Kitsbuhel which was around one hour and half away from Salzburg and situated in what is known as the Tirol. Innsbruck is the capital of the Tirolean region and can be visited either by train if you wish to do itindependently or via your local rep. You can also visit the capital city of Austria which is Vienna as well as Venice and Munich. Trips to these as well as many others are available locally.
Kitsbuhel it?s self is a very pretty town but can be very expensive as it?s inhabitants tend towards the rich to very rich. In fact when you are walking down the main streets you will see...

Seefeld ( Austria )
Advantages: This is a very beautiful place to be. There are flowers on every balcony which makes it look like a fairy land
Disadvantages: I found none when I was there except if you like to cycle they do it differently
...I was there when I was young, I went on a bus tour and we stopped off in Germany for the night, in the morning after breakfast, the cases got loaded into the buses, unfortunatly mine went on its merry way to Switzerland andIand I was left for four days with only the clothes I had on 'till we arrived in in Austria . Seefeld is beautiful with every house and hotel with flowers on the It is so clean and you look up to the mountains and see the snow lying, yet it is not cold. I went up in the cable car to the top and stood looking down at the wooden chalets with flower laden balconys
We went to the house where the "sound of music" was played. There was entertainment
in the Hotel next door where the men danced
typical tyroleon dances, with leather shorts and
caps. and as my clothes had not arrived from
Switzerland a very nice...

The Heart of Europe
Advantages: spectacular scenery, history and culture, great people, good food
Disadvantages: crowded in July and August, in winter during X-mas
...and Zürs on the Arlberg. There is glacier skiing all year round in Tyrol, Downhill World Cup action in Kitzbühel, mountain climbing, parasailing and golf from the Arlberg to Pass Thurn.
Salzburg adds its cultural flavour and has the largest skiing area in all Europe ("Amadé") that can be crisscrossed with a single pass. The easternmost glacier is on the Dachstein already in the province of Upper Austria, this is lake country: here you find Attersee, Traunsee, Mondsee and Wolfgangsee, skipper´s heaven.
Another similar province is Carinthia in the south, bordering both Italy and Slovenia, also mountainous and speckled with lakes. The highest Austrian mountain found there with 3798 metres is the Großglockner.
On the south side of the Dachstein begins Styria stretching south-east to the Slovenian border where wine tasting is highly...

The top place for Culture and Classical Music
Advantages: Class, culture and music
Disadvantages: Could be quite expensive
...This is part of my travel diary on a tour from Contiki.
Berlin/Prague/Vienna tour Day 7
By late afternoon/early evening, we arrived in Vienna, capital of Austria and classical music. What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of Austria? Sound of Music, Viennesse Waltz, Viennesse biscuit or Arnold Schwarzenegger? Well for me it?is definitely Music!! Austria is one of the most cultured countries in Europe and Vienna being its capital is also the capital for classical music. Threfore, there is no surprise that many well-known composers or musicians and some examples are Mozart, Johann Strauss, Hadyn and Schubert.
Vienna is all about classical music and beauty with a amazing collection of buildings and architecture. The city lies in the Danube Valley and has been inhibited for thousands of years...
