D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G DWL G520
Advantages: Very quick and easy to set up,
Disadvantages: Shorter than claimed 100m Range, Some configuration problems in Windows XP, No Linux Support
...After recently purchasing a new computer, I decided to jump on the bandwaggon of Wireless Networking. After a rather failed attempt with a previous setup , I discovered the new offering from D-Link - the DWL G520. I bought two for the fairly hefty price of about £120, and they installed without a problem.
However problems started occuring when one of the computers was moved slightly further away, the cards failed to find each other. After a quick e-mail to the D-Link customer support this soon was fixed, by decreasing the speed to around 48Mb/s. This didn't make much of a change to the performance. However when i decided to move one computer downstairs over the opposite side of the house, the cards failed to find each other even by reducing the speeds to 1Mb/s, this distance is much less than 100m. Any e-mails sent to D-Link, were no...

Panasonic G520 - A very good Phone
Advantages: Easy to use, vibrate alert, small and light.
Disadvantages: No games, lacking in ringtones.
...I brought the Panasonic G520 on Vodafone Pay as You Talk quite recently costing me only £39.99. It is quite a small phone and is easy to use. It has one touch access to the phone book and an easy navigation system.
Extras include a Vibrate Alert. The screen is big enough to fit three lines of text so you aren't forever scrolling through when reading text messages. The screen gives you information on battery life, signal strength and the ability to make emergency calls.
This is a phone for people that use mobiles as a phone, it doesn't have loads or ringtones or games but it also doesn't give you a headache or cost as much as phones like the Nokia 5110....

The Best Of Both Worlds
Advantages: Dual fuel, good performance and features
Disadvantages: No gas cut off, horrible grill pan
...When choosing a new cooker when I moved home I was faced with the choice of an electric or gas cooker. Gas cookers are generally cheaper to run with the flame better for cooking on the hob and electric cookers are cleaner with faster oven heating times. Dual fuel cookers give you the best of both worlds with an instantly responsive gas hob and superior electric oven. I bought my Indesit K6G520XG dual fuel cooker around two years ago and it is currently available for around £300. Let's see how it has performed in a domestic environment since I bought it.
When you buy a gas cooker you need to have it installed by a corgi professional, in this instance the £90 for installation by the shop would have been a good deal as when phoning round for quotes I was told as much as £150 but in the end was lucky enough to have a corgi registered...

Solid 108G Wireless Card
Advantages: Good reception, good drivers, good file transfer speed
Disadvantages: No Vista support
...Having become very disillusioned with the stability of USB Wireless devices while doing more than just web browsing, I decided to turn to a PCI solution.
My home router supports 108Mbps MIMO, so bought a PCI card which can make full use of this - namely the D-Link AirPlus XtremeG GWL G520M.
At the time of writing this, they're available for £40-£50 from most online shops, but Tesco.com bucks this trend and is selling it for £19.97 plus £4.85 for next day delivery. A totally flawless purchase, which also earned me some Clubcard points.
The device installs easily into a spare PCI slot. The enclosed design adds to the feeling of quality.
The drivers on the CD are the latest available, and identical to the ones from Windows Update's online repository.
Having owned 2 Atheros based USB devices before I was a little bit nervous...

In car charger warning
Advantages: Vibrates, Pay as you go
Disadvantages: All memories in the SIM not the phone
...Just a warning about using a propriatary in car charger with the Panasonic G520. DON'T
This is a great phone and is one of the best value pay as you go phones. If you are tempted to save a bit of cash and go for a cheap in car charger just don't. I bought an in car charger from LINK and it fried the phone within a day. Symptoms were turning itself off at random intervals (sometimes only minutes).
I bought another one and used a genuine Panasonic charger and have had no problems with it....

G650+ G520+ and their US counterparts
Advantages: good performance
Disadvantages: no linux support *** no 108Mbps
...After some adds of the 108Mbps capabilities of the DWL-G650 and DWL-520 cards I decided to buy one.
Unlucky me! I received the DWL-G650+ and DWL-520+. Apparently, these are the versions D-Link reserves for out-side the US. Trying to upgrade to 108Mbps as promised in the adds was unsuccessful. I didn't even find any info on the G650+ cards on the .COM website. Mails to D-Link remained unanswered. After some research in the newsgroups, I found out the following :
The DWL-G650+ and DWL-520+ are using a different chipset than the G650 (the "+" is very important). You will not find this info on the D-Link website because the "+" has two major implications :
1:because the G650+ uses a cheaper chipset (Motorola) it has currently no 108Mbps support as its bigger brother does (G650, no "+").
2:because of this chipset it has a very...
