Review of the Victorinox Century Swiss Army Knife
Review of Victorinox - Swiss Army Knife by  freelancer1

Advantages: Sharp serrated blade, attractive design.
Disadvantages: None that spring to mind.

...I am a little bit sad. You see, I'm a pen knife anorak... I have four of the things, and use them for camping trips, jobs around the house and those bizarre tasks that pop up from time to time (ever got a lump of chewing gum stuck to your shoe before a meeting?!?) In short - I KNOW about penknives. Features of the Victorinox Swiss Army Century Swiss Army Knife Serrated/Straight blade - this is pulled out from the cover by gripping a little groove on the back of the blade. It is made of stainless steel, so it won't rust, and it "locks" when it is in line with the handle. The blade is 4" long and has about 60% serrated edge and 40% straight edge. It is an incredibly sharp blade that cuts just about anything - string, rope... Read review

Cuts like a knife
Review of Cuts Like A Knife - Bryan Adams by  BigGip

Advantages: Good likeable sound
Disadvantages: None

...'Cuts like a knife' is a CD that contains 10 very good rock tracks. The CD is similar in style to 'You want it - You got it', however the rawness has been taken away and been replaced with a much more commercial sound. The tracks once again are well written with the musical instruments played exceptionally well. My favourite tracks are 'Straight from the heart', 'Cuts like a knife' and 'The best was yet to come'. This CD is definately one for the collection if only just to see how and by how far Bryan Adams has progressed as an artist.... Read review

Going Global - with the sharp set
Review of Global Knife Set by  SvenP

Advantages: Sharp, well balanced, easy to keep sharp, look good in the kitchen
Disadvantages: Cost

...This review is of a set of 6 Global knives and a matching knife block. From the outset, I should state that I am not a professional chef, have never had any training in the art of food preparation, but am a keen amateur. I started in the kitchen using hand me downs from my parents when I went off to university. Not bad, but not good knives by any stretch, however they were adequate for beans on toast and other student staples. When I moved into my first home, I bought a set of knives that looked like they had metal handles, but were in fact plastic. The joins attracted dirt and debris that was hard to remove, and the balance was all wrong. They lost their edge after a short while, and were never as sharp again despite my best efforts with sharpening steels and stones. I upgraded to a fully metal set (from John Lewis I think - cost... Well worth it
Review of Sabatier Boots branded 8" cooks knife by  Pritch

Advantages: Sharp, easy to use
Disadvantages: None

...People don't understand how you can spend £30 on a knife. That's until they've seen one being used. The Boots branded knife is pretty low down on the Sabatier range, but unlike many knives I've owned, mainly stainless steel, this one gives you virtually a razor edge when you sharpen it, doesn't flex like really nasty knives and basically slices through most things like, well, a knife through butter. Yesterday, after a little while sharpening it, I found myself cutting through a chunk of frozen chicken. Can't say that for you £5 knife, can you?... Read review

Knife to see you, to see you, knife....
Review of Victorinox - Swiss Army Knife by  colman

Advantages: Quality, sharp, well featured
Disadvantages: Mis-named range

...The Victorinox range of Swiss Army knives is impressive to say the least. When I went to buy one I was presented with a bewildering array of lethal implements withdifferent names such as the Hunter, the Waiter, the Sportsman, The Picknicker - and then I saw what I thought I would need - the CLIMBER. I do a lot of climbing in my spare time and there are occasions when you could really do with a decent kinfe to either clear some irritating vegetation or get your self out of a spot of bother (although i wouldn't recommend indiscriminately hacking at you ropes with ANY sort of knife...) Imagine my surprise to discover that in fact CLEARLY the best knife for a climber is actually the PICKNICKER - it has a larger more useful blade, an attachment ring large enough to take a mini-karabiner and - most important of all - it can easily be opened... eeeecchhh they're sharp
Review of Global Knife Set by  mussonanna

Advantages: the best knives you will ever find
Disadvantages: so sharp - be careful

...Before I begin this review, I feel it is my duty to issue a warning that if, you are to ever approach one of these knives approach with caution. They need to be kept in a cordened off area with a large man shouting into a mega phone 'nothing to see here'. They are sharp = seriously sharp and after listening to a 20 minute lecture from my husband on how i was to be very very careful I cut through my finger rather than the french stick i was aiming for.... they get alot further through your finger than your regular knife, so then... to the review. Global knives are Japanese chef knives, and have been around since the 80's. They are all steel, with ergonomic hollow steel handles covered with black dots and are weighed to provide the perfect balance for cutting. These knives are now used by the majority of renowned chefs and they now... Read review

For Those Who Need Gadgets
Review of Victorinox - Swiss Army Knife by  richardjmeek

Advantages: very useful
Disadvantages: have to watch where you take it

...Everyone has heard of the Swiss army knife and many of the readers may even have one or an imitation. The Victorinox Swiss Army Knife is by far the best quality version available with international awards for quality for both its models at UK Jewellery Awards. The Swiss Army Knife basically is a multi-purpose knife containing various tools such as screwdrivers, tweezers, bottle openers corkscrews etc. The official Swiss Army Knife comes in 2 models either the traditional knife like model or the credit card version. I prefer the standard version myself as it is a lot more robust and the tools are bigger and more functional. The credit card version is ideal for carrying with you every day in your wallet except maybe in the pub or in nightclubs where it is not acceptable. These knives are both very well made and very robust. Beware... Read review

Compact Kit For Soldiers
Review of Victorinox - Swiss Army Knife by  richard1952

Advantages: Huge range to choose from.
Disadvantages: Some you will need deep pockets for.

...I have owned Swiss Army Knives for more than thirty years and always own at least two I seem to have to buy replacements every year, this is not because I lose them nor is it that they wear out, it is just that someone always takes a fancy to mine and talks me into giving it away. This can be expensive as a genuine Victorinox knife starts at about £9 for the small single blade version and soon runs up to £50 for a good multi-tool knife and into the hundreds for a solid gold pocket knife. The Multi-tool knives are what it is all about they come in so many configurations that it just is not possible to list them all, suffice it to say that there is one that will suit your needs. About the only tool I have never seen on a Swiss Army Knife is a razor but you could argue that the blade holds such a keen edge that you could shave with it... Read review

The sharpest knife in the draw
Review of Breville EK2 Carving Knife by  Miskah

Advantages: cuts very thinly and evenly
Disadvantages: carving style takes a while to get used to

...I like my roast meat and poultry sliced very thin and always have a problem keeping my carving knives sharp enough so this is the reason I thought I would try an electric carving knife. Initially the problem I had was the change in slicing style. With an electric carving knife, instead or sliding the knife back and forth through the meat gradually working your way down, you place the knife in position and exert a gentle steady downwards pressure until the knife slices off the piece. The knife itself creates the back and forth motion with its blade. This is the most difficult transition as the tendency to move the knife in a traditional manner remains. The Breville EK2 isn’t my first electric carving knife; it’s a replacement for an old Russell Hobbs that had to be retired due to safety reasons. It was getting on in years... Read review

Great for the cook, but not perfect
Review of Cutco Cutlery by  snowcuts

Advantages: extremely durable, maintain sharpness
Disadvantages: expensive

...My mother owned a set of Cutco. What sold her was the "lifetime" guarantee. But rather than send her knives in for resharpening, she just had my dad sharpen them. This is great for the straight edged knives, but the serrated ones lost their serration. Even so, my mom continued to cut with them. She especially had two favorites: the parer and the small serrated one. For all I know, she still uses those. When I was in college about 20 years ago, I got a set by trying to sell them over spring break. I'm just not a salesperson, but I was glad to get the set. However, I can now say that they are not indestructable. My husband tried to use the French chef chopper to cut through frozen chicken bone. That caused the edge of the knife to warp in several places. A cooking/stirring spoon that came with the set broke off between... Read review
