Review of Kodak ESP3

Kodak Mc3

Advantages: Multi-functioning, cheap, cool gadget, great as a first video camera
Disadvantages: low quality images, uses up batterys very quickly

...I bought the Kodak Mc3 player becausei wanted a cheap (ish) digital camera/video camera to take on my Duke of Edinburgh expiditions that i didnt have to worry about getting broken/lost too much and it certainly did its job. It came with a 16mb memory card which gives you about 5 mins video recording time and about 50 photos on the high quality setting and 10 mins recording time and 100 photos on the lower quality setting. I later bought a 32mb card as the 16mb filled up very quickly. I understand that the Mc3 is supposed to have a MP3 function but i have never worked out how to use it, the instructions that came with the camera are very minimal and not as helpful as they could be, further instructions can be found on the kodak website but i have still not founf out how to use the music function yet! Review of Kodak MC3

PS3 slim

Advantages: Blu-ray, free online, nice extras like vidzone & iplayer. Almost silent operation
Disadvantages: Rubbish controller, still expensive, online nowhere near as good as xbox live

...Well, had the slim for a few weeks now (my 1st ever playstation), personally, I'm a little underwhelmed by it, I've been a gamer since the nintendo game & watch days & owned @ least 1 of the current gen consoles since the Mega Drive(Genesis). Graphically the system has the potential to wipe the floor with the 360, but this is really only going to apply to PS3 exclusives as any software house making a multi-platform game is going to be as cost effective (lazy) as possible & use the same graphics on all the games where possible(ok, they need to dumb them down for the Wii). My problem here is that I have yet to get a game for it that runs in 1080P, they all seem to be in 720P! Why???? I'm sure they are out there, but I haven't found one yet. I guess this is down to most HD tv's being HD ready rather than Full HD. Sound-Yeah, ok...

To PS3 or not to PS3?

Advantages: An amazing machine, expandable, some great features
Disadvantages: Expensive (but for a reason), almost internet reliant, no browser security

...I have a rather annoying habit. I tend to collect games consoles. The problem with this is threefold. It's expensive, Buggy (she who must be obeyed, but rarely is) doesn't like the fact that the bedroom where they all live and we sleep has more lights flashing than the average xmas tree and the one that's most annoying is I rarely play any games. I can't justify them, and I'm not even going to attempt to, although I managed to state a convincing argument about having a blu-ray player at the time. I did have a PS3 from the day they first came out (I get some great freebies with my job), but due to a slight moment of clumsiness I killed the original so decided to buy another one so this review is for the now standard 40Gb version. Advantages: Cheap Blu-Ray player, great graphics, free wifi, internet browser
Disadvantages: Expensive, some games are better on 360, 40 GB model doesn't have backwards compatability

...There are probably 3 categories of consumer: (1) Gamers with a HD TV who are also quite interested in the multimedia/blue ray angle. (2) Serious gamers either without a HD TV or who are not interested in high def for films etc.. (3) HD TV/ multimedia people who are not that interested in games. If you are in (1) or (3) categories then this is a bargain at the moment. One of the cheapest/best blue ray players with constant support. Now upscales dvds and supports divx etc.. Supports the very latest version of blu ray and is future proof. Sony can not afford to have this fail and the constant updates are great and frequent. ...I got one last year for Christmas and found it to be better than my XBox 360 in almost every area, in my opinion this truly is the best games console on the market and would recommend it to anyone who is into their gaming. Lab quality photo's at home!

Advantages: quality, ink cost, appearance
Disadvantages: Bulkey, loud -software issues

...UPDATED AT END I have had my share of printers, HP, Epson, and prior to the kodak- I had an Lexmark X5470. All of them were bad with the cost of inks- with the HP & Epson I always ended up using compatible inks- which weren't great, with the lexmark I always bought genuine ink- however- the photo quality was bad- it never matched colors & never gave me one good photo & trying to find out how to change the black ink for the photo ink proved impossible. The fax on it never worked. I just bought an Nikon D60 DSLR- so I decided to buy a photo dedicated printer- these are printers that will print text too- but are designed for photo printing. I saw the Kodak advertised on tv- claiming to be 10p per print- and give photo lab quality pictures, the inks are £6 for black and £10 for color (aprox). I got it yesterday from amazon...
