Advantages: Cheap, easy to get to Disadvantages: Oily food, over-attentive waiters and trashy decor
...I recently went to the Koh-i-noor for a celebratory dinner and was exceitedly looking forward to it as it is a well-known Indian restaurant in Glasgow and reputedly one of the original (and best?) in Scotland.
Koh-i-noor is situated just up from Charing Cross on North Street so faces out over the motorway that runs through the centre of the city. Obviously with this start I wasn't expecting fantastic views out of the restaurant windows but unfortunately on walking in I realised that a calm and relaxing interior to contrast with the busy outside was not the theme they had gone for! The positives are that for such a busy location the restaurant is very quiet inside and the tables are mostly in the back where they are far from the street and passing cars. Unfortunately, however, the decor doesn't seem to have been changed since the 1970s...

Review of Koh-i-Noor
Advantages: A real look at how the other half live Disadvantages: again, A real look at how the other half live
...Koh Kong is a small village on the Thailand / Cambodia border, it is a fairly well know location for backpackers travelling from Thailand to Phenom Pehn and also by those who are just crossing the border for a day or so to get there Visa stamped from neigboring Thailand...
I have personally been there on several occassions, and each time I have noticed some changes, most development is near the actual border, where there is now a large Casino and a zoo, I am led to beleive other attractions are also be developed...
Getting There:
From Thailand, First you should either catch a bus from bangkok or Pattaya to Trat, and then from there there are special mini buses that will take you to the border town of Hat Lek on the Thai side of the border. be aware that there are many people here who will offer you a ride to the border...

Review of Koh Kong
Advantages: Great rooms, scenic location, Peaceful Disadvantages: Maybe to peaceful?
...Koh Phangan is a small island located off the Eastern coast of Thailand. We arrived, as many people do in Bangkok after spending a few days in the capital we made our way down the coast by coast to Koh Samui which is just a short boat hop away from Koh Phangan. We spent a week on the island relaxing and choose this nice complex to stay in, so here is my review.
We arrived from Koh Samui via a high speed boat journey, which cost a couple of quid into port on the island. From here we simply boarded a shared mini bus taxi which was going in our general direction on the island. This again cost very little, but you can haggle down the price a little bit if you choose.
How did we hear of this place?
We booked most of accommodation for our trip online. For many of the Asian places we visited, we simply booked the first night. We...
Advantages: Secluded hotel & Cottages in natural surroundings ustilising natural materials. Very tasteful Disadvantages: Quite expensive.
...Tongsai bay cottages and hotel. 5 Star resort hotel.
This unique hotel is situated in its own private bay in the North East of Koh Samui with its own private beach in a natural cove. The selling point of this hotel is that it is built in natural surroundings without damaging any of the natural flora or fauna and is eco friendly. Each of the 61 cottages are dotted around the bay hidden amongst the foliage some even have trees growing through the balconies. There is also a block of 24 suites that are down nearer the beach.
The resort was started over 25 by a man who after seeing the bay decided to buy it and transform it into its current day state without damaging the look of the bay. Each cottage is individually made with natural materials without impacting as much as possible on the environment. It is very secluded and away from...
Advantages: Great food; reasonable price; lovely staff Disadvantages: Not a great selection of wine
...I lived in India for a year over 15 years ago and returned to Britain with a real love of Indian food. Since then I have discovered a few fantastic Indian restaurants in various parts of the UK and the Koh-i-Noor is one of them.
In fairness it doesn't look great. It fronts onto a busy motorway (don't worry, you can't hear the traffic once you're in the door), and inside it looks like a camp stage designer was let loose and allowed to erect a fountain in the middle of the restaurant. That's where the criticism ends, and believe me, when you taste the food any concerns you may have about the decor will disappear.
I've eaten lunch from the menu and been completely satisfied with the portions, taste, texture and price. The staff are very friendly and, if you're eating with friends, they won't let you over-order.
The best time...

Review of Koh-i-Noor
Advantages: Crystal blue waters, white sands, shops Disadvantages: Not for the culture-seekers...
...I will start by admitting that Koh Samui is one of the more touristy islands of Thailand, and that we have seen more naturally stunning and more cultural places... it?s main attraction being white sandy beaches and relaxation for the likes of sun dogs like us. Still, it is definitely worth visiting once you have had your fill of culture and just want to relax in the sun with a coconut shake and sun lotion by your side.
Many places in Thailand are suited for the long-haul traveller and may offer more cultural delights, but for those who havent?t got the time, Samui is much nicer than Phuket or Pattaya (aka the ?underbelly of Asia?) and Samui has the added benefit of being close to other islands that you can visit. Even if you are backpacking, like we were, you?ll enjoy the luxuries here as we sank our teeth into toasties, chips (with...

Review of Ko Samui (Thailand)
Advantages: A paradise Disadvantages: lionfish/scorpionfish
...Koh Hai Fantasy Resort and Spa is a one of a kind find for the Diver breed, it offers all that a diver could want. If offers an untouched prestine ocean, which the presence of humans in undetectable, a dive shop run by experienced multi lingual staff, the main instructor spoke English, German, Japanese and Thai. ...At the start, please let me inform you that I have decided to be as "cagey" as possible in this review, as I do not want to spoil what is a very exciting read. It is, essentially, a Boys Own Paper" style of true, stiring adventure.
The story of the Koh-I-Noor diamond is probably one of the most fascinating stories about any gemstone that you will read. If not THE most fascinating story.
Author Kevin Rushby points out that the first diamonds came from India. Although all the Indian diamond mines have long since fallen into disuse, being completely worked out of diamonds.
The diamond known as the Koh-I-Noor (the name means "Mountain of Light") is certainly one of the best known of these diamonds from India.
The story that Rushby tells is one of intrigue, of mystery, of greed, and of death. All woven around the tumultuous...
Advantages: Relaxing, friendly, beautiful Disadvantages: mosquitos and malaria
...I went to Koh Chang a few years ago and it was such a beautiful island. Quiet from the tourist trap, the people are very welcoming and so friendly, and the beaches and sea is so clear and unpolluted. The accomadation is cheap and quite basic (dependant on what you want to spend, ranging from beach huts to basic room on the beach with toilet/shower room) but I thought it was fine being next to the beach with a hammock outside to lounge around in and the sea about ten metres away, bliss!!! There is one road around the island, the island is very small but there are a few waterfalls etc. if you like to walk or hire a bike for the day it would keep you occupied. Food is delicious!!! None of the rubbish we are served up back home in the U.K. this food is cut stray from the coconut tree if need be and everything is pure with none...
Advantages: Relatively unspoiled, freindly, great value for money Disadvantages: None, really
...Arriving in Koh Samui after what seemed like a whole day's travel from Bangkok I did wonder if I had made the right decision. Hot, sticky and tired is not the best state of mind to arrive anywhere but I have to say that the first people we met made it all worth while. I knew from experience that the Thais are natural and gregarious but nothing prepared me for the welcome at our hotel and in the resort (Chaweng) generally.
Yes, Chaweng is a little more commercial than I expected but compared to Patong (Phuket) or Pattaya it was charming and quiet. There are bars aplenty and, of course, lots of "adult" type entertainments but it is never "in your face" or overtly annoying. Whilst we were there a ten pin bowlng centre was opened to tremendous fanfare.
Eating out can be really cheap and cheerful or sort of mid range and fabulous...
