Konica Minolta 2550 - a step up from the entry level printer
Advantages: Quality prints, quiet
Disadvantages: A little expensive to run
...The Magicolor 2550 is positioned as one of Konica Minolta's entry level colour laser printers, well almost entry level, as it offers some very nice features without taking the price of the device too high.
The specification on offer from this full colour model is a cracking 20ppm (pages per minute) in monochrome and 5ppm in full colour. The native resolution is 600dpi with a x4 dithering method which beefs this up to an effective 2,400dpi. The model on review here is the standard model, which has 128MB of memory, is network ready and offers Postscript 3 printer language in addition to PCL6 and PDF support.
The 2550DN which is the next model up adds a built-in duplexer and has 256MB of memory, it also adds Pictbridge support for direct connection of a compatible digital camera. Both models are capable of handling a monthly duty cycle...

Magicolour but not Magical! Konica Minolta Magicolor 2450 Printer
Advantages: Great print quality
Disadvantages: Slow, expensive
...As with most ICT departments in schools we have the need for occasioanl colour laser printing and to this end we purchased a Magicolor 2450. The initial purchase price was reasonable (£450 ish) and the feature list impressed us.
The Product
The printer itself has a fairly small footprint it is about 19 inches wide, 16 inches deep and 18 inches high. The unit is predominatly a greyish cream colour with a dark blue top section. It looks quite good on a desk.
The Features
Well it is a colour laser printer, print quality is excellent. The paper tray is large holding approx 100 sheets which eliminates the constant refilling that so many inkjets suffer from. The printer has a network interface so that it can be easily shared as well as the standard parallel and USB conneections.

Konika-Minolta Magicolor with magical printed colours
Advantages: Vivid colours, reliable, prints beautifully
Disadvantages: Photo printing quality is only 7/10 in my rating
...We bought our Konika Minolta Magicolor 2350 laser printer four years ago. We use it at home but I print quite frequently. We decided to buy this printer because it is specially designed for optimal performance in Windows, Macintosh, UNIX, and other environments as well. This was important for us, as I use Windows but my husband is an IT professional and uses several other operation systems on his computers and sometimes also he wants to print something. He worked for a company where there were a lot of printers of this type and he had really good opinion about them. This opinion hasn?t changed since then.
Price of the printer and cartridges
When we bought it, it was on offer, so it was ?only? £650. It was a serious discount because its full price is £900.
There are four cartridges in it plus the drum cartridge, we had to change...

Konica Minolta A200
Advantages: Excellent picture quality, range of functions, lens quality, anti shake function
Disadvantages: Viewfinder not the best, low light autofocus
...Although Konica Minolta have now ceased making cameras, there are still a few of these around (and warranty/service has been handed over to Sony).
The A200 is the last of KM bridge mount digital cameras in the pro-sumer market. It has a 8m pixel CCD and 28 to 200 (35mm equivalent) manual zoom lens - much better than a motor driven lens which tend to have noticeable "stops".
Although fairly big (not quite as big as a D-SLR) and quite heavy, the range of functions available from fully automatic to fully manual with a number of programme modes in between means that you get pretty much all the benefits of a D-SLR in a smaller, more convenient package. It's no pocket camera however.
A number of items standout:- the excellent quality lens (which has very little barrel distortion or vignetting) and which can take both wide...

A cheap, high quality colour laser printer
Advantages: Small, excellent quality output, takes glossy paper and networkable too
Disadvantages: Slow to print in full colour
...Having paid £250 for this printer, I have found it to be an outstanding quality colour laser printer for home use.
To start by looking at it's size, the printer takes up much less desk space than my previous colour laser printer. It is 430 mm wide, 395 mm deep and 341 mm high. On the front of the printer is a fold down tray were you feed in the paper, which then comes out at the top. Above the paper tray is another fold down area where the toners go.
In terms of print QUALITY this printer gives an excellent finish with a semi-shiny appearance. Having compared it to printers costing over twice as much (such as the OKI 5000 series) the print quality is as good, in my opinion. Konica Minolta describe the print resolution as PhotoART-9600TM resolution (600 x 600 x 4) and I have to say that it's excellent.
The printer...

Konica Minolta 2300W
Advantages: Cheap, good quality printout, free scanner until end of march 2004
Disadvantages: Expensive duplexer, non-networkable
...I have just purchased this colour laser printer for printing a small magazine in house. With the addition of the scanner / copier it will turn my printer into a multifunction printer / photocopier. For the price, compared to many other colour lasers, I thought that it would be of poor build quality. I am happy to report that it is a sturdy machine, weighing in at 28kg.
It was so simple to get ready to connect to the computer, the only problem was setting up the software. The manual advises not using the found new hardware wizard, but without it it just won't detect.
The print quality is stunning, even on normal paper. The 1200 x 600 dpi is more than adequate for most needs. Being someone who has mainly used HP on account of their high standards, I am very pleased with this machine.
Unusually, and importantly for our magazine...

Review Minolta Z2
Advantages: Infinately (well almost) settings, accurate settings, only for the keen photographers
Disadvantages: autofocus and metering inaccurate, not good for occasional snappers
...I bought a Minolta Z2 about 6 months ago.
I have been an avid amateur photographer for years, done the photographic clubs etc, got bored with the expense of processing etc and I have always had Minolta cameras. But then the digital cameras came along and changed all that. There aint nothing wrong with Minolta?s reliability, but there?s certainly an air of cheapness of the finish when it comes to Konica, but times are hard, they?re squeezing more and more out of nothing and that costs nothing. But it seems to me that as Minolta are still in control of the upper markets (e.g. 7Hi). It looks like Konica have stamped their position on the lower end cameras, i.e. this one and its predecessors: Z1, Z10 blah, blah. The workings have definitely the stamp of Minolta, I just hope that the Konica haven?t compromised with the quality...

The DVDR5570H is flakier than a double 99
Advantages: pause/rewind live TV, watch recordings/DVDs while recording, IR set top box controller
Disadvantages: crashes a lot, flaky, slow menus
...This isn't a detailed review, I may edit this up into a full review later, if I have the time.
The Philips DVDR5570H is a combined DVD recorder and hard disk recorder. It has an impressive spec for the price and the box looks very smart.
It won't record TV directly to DVD, TV recordings have to be copied from the hard disk to the DVD.
Nice features include the 6 hour live buffer, allowing you to rewind the alst 6 hours of TV and the IR controller which can be used to change channels on a connected cable or satellite box.
We loved it initially, but were soon annoyed by a tendency to crash and to muddle up the names of programs stored on the disk. A firmware upgrade to the latest version was supposed to solve these problems, but the upgrade added new problems without solving old ones.
After a little over a year, we've lost...

Supurb SLR - especially for Minolta users.
Advantages: Excellent build quality, ergonomically laid out controls, fast auto focus and lcd screen showing plenty of information.
Disadvantages: Expensive camera, expensive accessories.
...major settings and it becomes a point and shoot device.
I have used the camera for weddings, holidays and proud to say I captured the last commercial flights made by Concorde. All pictures from this camera came out perfectly and have never failed me due to an equipment limitation. My previous SLRs were the Dynax 7 and Dynax 600si and this latest incarnation of the Minolta ?7? series SLR does not disappoint. Fans and users of Minolta will find the quality and feel of the camera very familiar....
