Konica Minolta 2550 - a step up from the entry level printer

...The Magicolor 2550 is positioned as one of Konica Minolta's entry level colour laser printers, well almost entry level, as it offers some very nice features without taking the price of the device too high. The specification on offer from this full colour model is a cracking 20ppm (pages per minute) in monochrome and 5ppm in full colour. The native resolution is 600dpi with a x4 dithering method which beefs this up to an effective 2,400dpi. The model on review here is the standard model, which has 128MB of memory, is network ready and offers Postscript 3 printer language in addition to PCL6 and PDF support. The 2550DN which is the next model up adds a built-in duplexer and has 256MB of memory, it also adds Pictbridge support for direct connection of a compatible digital camera. Konika-Minolta Magicolor with magical printed colours

Advantages: Vivid colours, reliable, prints beautifully
Disadvantages: Photo printing quality is only 7/10 in my rating

Magicolour but not Magical! Konica Minolta Magicolor 2450 Printer

...As with most ICT departments in schools we have the need for occasioanl colour laser printing and to this end we purchased a Magicolor 2450. The initial purchase price was reasonable (£450 ish) and the feature list impressed us. The Product The printer itself has a fairly small footprint it is about 19 inches wide, 16 inches deep and 18 inches high. A cheap, high quality colour laser printer

Advantages: Small, excellent quality output, takes glossy paper and networkable too
Disadvantages: Slow to print in full colour

...Having paid £250 for this printer, I have found it to be an outstanding quality colour laser printer for home use. To start by looking at it's size, the printer takes up much less desk space than my previous colour laser printer. It is 430 mm wide, 395 mm deep and 341 mm high. On the front of the printer is a fold down tray were you feed in the paper, which then comes out at the top. Above the paper tray is another fold down area where the toners go. In terms of print QUALITY this printer gives an excellent finish with a semi-shiny appearance. Having compared it to printers costing over twice as much (such as the OKI 5000 series) the print quality is as good, in my opinion. Magicolor 2350

Advantages: Easy install, great interface options, very fast black output
Disadvantages: colour output very, very slow at A4 size

...have to see a big sheet of steel with the connection sticking out? minolta dropped the ball a bit there. I have one other little gripe that minolta really should listen to: "please, please put a back light on the display" the display is awkward to read except in very good light. The installation was very easy - especially important on my mixed OS home network. wizards for windows are included on the software CD and a pretty easy PPD install is available for linux/unix which worked straight away. thats a rarity! The machine has one or two disadvantages over inkjets though, firstly it takes a while to wake up. when you switch it on it can take up to 5 minutes to be ready to print, although it more usually about 2 minutes, and it tends to make quite a lot of noise going about it. secondly its outout is not quite as good as a top...

These printers are an absolute nightmare...

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Clunky, Noisy, Toner Leakage, Paper Pickup Problems, Sensor Problems, Cheaply Built, The List Goes On...

...We bought 6 of these printers back in early 2005 and after 1 year, were riddled with different problems - e.g. paper not picking up, numerous paper jams, "cyan/magenta/yellow/black toner not installed" error messages (will get to this one later), video underrun error (which basically colour washed the whole page it happened to be printing at the time.) Even after a month we had to call konica minolta to send out a printer engineer because 2 of our printers refused to pick up any paper, and these 2 still have trouble picking up paper even now. The insides of these printers can get very dirty with toner which will cause a whole load of other problems like the "X toner not installed" error messages mentioned above. It seems that due to what looks like a design fault - where by the electrical contacts for the printer cartridges are...

Konica Minolta A200

Advantages: Excellent picture quality, range of functions, lens quality, anti shake function
Disadvantages: Viewfinder not the best, low light autofocus

...Although Konica Minolta have now ceased making cameras, there are still a few of these around (and warranty/service has been handed over to Sony). The A200 is the last of KM bridge mount digital cameras in the pro-sumer market. It has a 8m pixel CCD and 28 to 200 (35mm equivalent) manual zoom lens - much better than a motor driven lens which tend to have noticeable "stops". Although fairly big (not quite as big as a D-SLR) and quite heavy, the range of functions available from fully automatic to fully manual with a number of programme modes in between means that you get pretty much all the benefits of a D-SLR in a smaller, more convenient package. Advantages: Outstanding Quality, Reliability
Disadvantages: Use of System Resources

...cartridges, all with unscrewable caps to the reservoir for easy refills, which i have never seen before in another toner cartridge. One last bonus was the model we purchased came with a top mountable scanner which plugged into the printer and allowed direct colour photocopies and acted as a normal scanner for the pc with scan, copy, ocr and fax facilities. All in all, the printer was very easy to setup and once running is quite low maintanance (i.e. we have printed around 2500 - 3000 pages and i've only sorted 2 paper jams). I highly recommend it for any office who wants cheap mass colour prints....

A fantastic little machine.

Advantages: compact, fast, good quality prints, economical to run, good price
Disadvantages: start up noise (But I think this is the same with most laser printers)

...We tried to buy a Magicolor 2400 but printerland.co.uk had sold out and offered this machine for only a very little more. We paid £175 (GBP) including VAT. My first print was an A4 colour photo onto budget 80 gsm office paper and the print quality was as good as our old HP inkjet and so much faster. The picture quality was good enough to frame and hang on the wall. Although maybe not as sharp as it might have been had it been professionally printed, you had to look very closely to see the difference. It popped out in under 5 seconds - much faster than the manufacturer's specs. What we bought this for was to print brochures for my wife's business.
