Konica Minolta 2550 - a step up from the entry level printer

Advantages: Quality prints, quiet
Disadvantages: A little expensive to run

...The Magicolor 2550 is positioned as one of Konica Minolta's entry level colour laser printers, well almost entry level, as it offers some very nice features without taking the price of the device too high. The specification on offer from this full colour model is a cracking 20ppm (pages per minute) in monochrome and 5ppm in full colour. The native resolution is 600dpi with a x4 dithering method which beefs this up to an effective 2,400dpi. The model on review here is the standard model, which has 128MB of memory, is network ready and offers Postscript 3 printer language in addition to PCL6 and PDF support. The 2550DN which is the next model up adds a built-in duplexer and has 256MB of memory, it also adds Pictbridge support for direct connection of a compatible digital camera. Both models are capable of handling a monthly duty cycle...

Konica Minolta A200

Advantages: Excellent picture quality, range of functions, lens quality, anti shake function
Disadvantages: Viewfinder not the best, low light autofocus

...Although Konica Minolta have now ceased making cameras, there are still a few of these around (and warranty/service has been handed over to Sony). The A200 is the last of KM bridge mount digital cameras in the pro-sumer market. It has a 8m pixel CCD and 28 to 200 (35mm equivalent) manual zoom lens - much better than a motor driven lens which tend to have noticeable "stops". Although fairly big (not quite as big as a D-SLR) and quite heavy, the range of functions available from fully automatic to fully manual with a number of programme modes in between means that you get pretty much all the benefits of a D-SLR in a smaller, more convenient package. It's no pocket camera however. A number of items standout:- the excellent quality lens (which has very little barrel distortion or vignetting) and which can take both wide...

Magicolour but not Magical! Konica Minolta Magicolor 2450 Printer

Advantages: Great print quality
Disadvantages: Slow, expensive

...As with most ICT departments in schools we have the need for occasioanl colour laser printing and to this end we purchased a Magicolor 2450. The initial purchase price was reasonable (£450 ish) and the feature list impressed us. The Product The printer itself has a fairly small footprint it is about 19 inches wide, 16 inches deep and 18 inches high. The unit is predominatly a greyish cream colour with a dark blue top section. It looks quite good on a desk. The Features Well it is a colour laser printer, print quality is excellent. The paper tray is large holding approx 100 sheets which eliminates the constant refilling that so many inkjets suffer from. The printer has a network interface so that it can be easily shared as well as the standard parallel and USB conneections. Consumables To...

Konika-Minolta Magicolor with magical printed colours

Advantages: Vivid colours, reliable, prints beautifully
Disadvantages: Photo printing quality is only 7/10 in my rating

...We bought our Konika Minolta Magicolor 2350 laser printer four years ago. We use it at home but I print quite frequently. We decided to buy this printer because it is specially designed for optimal performance in Windows, Macintosh, UNIX, and other environments as well. This was important for us, as I use Windows but my husband is an IT professional and uses several other operation systems on his computers and sometimes also he wants to print something. He worked for a company where there were a lot of printers of this type and he had really good opinion about them. This opinion hasn?t changed since then. Price of the printer and cartridges When we bought it, it was on offer, so it was ?only? £650. It was a serious discount because its full price is £900. There are four cartridges in it plus the drum cartridge, we had to change...

looking to buy a 35mm slr

Advantages: Cheaper than digital
Disadvantages: processing costs

...of these is there is a wide number of lenses available and they were produced in a large quantity so there is a wide selection of second hand bodies available. Many of the digital lenses can also be used on film cameras but you need to check the compatability first before you part with your hard earned cash. The cameras are available cheaply now on both ebay and amazon but also check the independent camera shops as they may do you a good deal and usually come with some form of guarantee. You need to make sure the camera is fully functioning and buy obtaining one through an independent or specialist camera shop they will have normally had the camera serviced before sale therefore ensuring a good buy. The main advantage of film over digital is that all 35mm films fit 35mm cameras. With digital there are so many types of memory card...

Review of Tips on Choosing a Camera

35mm, APS or Digital

Advantages: Digital Encourages Creativity Through Risk Taking, after all, you can always erase it!
Disadvantages: Still got a way to go, before it sounds the death knell of celluloid

...the fact that the viewfinder is some distance above the lens, which causes close-ups to be framed slightly incorrectly. Then comes the SLR’s trump card - interchangeable lenses. Being able to unscrew, or more normally these days, twist off one lens and put on another is the forte of this camera type. This enables a whole range of additional lenses to be used from extreme wide-angle to extreme telephoto (telescopic), and not just made by the original manufacturer either. There are many other lens firms falling over themselves to supply lenses to fit your Canon, Nikon, Minolta or whatever. The other facility afforded you by this flexibility, is to own one set of lenses and more than one camera body, in my case, a Canon 35mm and a Canon APS version, all served by the same set of lenses. Canon even makes a Digital camera body for the same...

Review of Comparison Of Film & Camera Types

Konica Minolta DiMAGE X

Advantages: Super easy to use, light and portable and a great first digital camera for all
Disadvantages: The software is unsatisfactory, and the SD card included is far from what it could be

...This camera is perhaps one of the most user-friendly cameras that I have encountered. It avoids the trap of many other digital cameras, with only a few buttons which are multifunctional, as opposed to lots of one-use buttons. This combines with the easy navigation of the camera menus to make the DiMAGE very easy to use. The LCD display is also impressive. The refresh rate is much faster than on other digital camaeras. As a result, it maintains a sharp picture when moved suddenly. However, like many LCD displays, it is only visible face on, with a very small angle view. Moreover, fingerprints greatly affects the view and, although I haven't damaged the screen yet, it is prone to damage, especially from excess pressure on the screen. Other features help to make this camaera an all round good buy. The quick start up time, literally 1...

Samsung Vega 140s 35mm P&S compact camera.

Advantages: Low price for high quality and capabilities.
Disadvantages: Too big for shirt pocket.

...I have built a small but representative collection of these P&S cameras because they can be had for peanuts these days. This little beauty has all the rest beat, and the others like Nikon, Pentax, Canon are good, but not as good as the Samsung. The Schneider lens needs no introduction, I have been using this glass in various cameras for the past half century, and it is IMHO at least the equal of other much more expensive lenses. This camera is just about perfect in every possible way, it powers up rapidly so you don't miss these elusive and rare opportunities to capture memorable images which will always be in focus and perfectly exposed. The design of the camera is also well thought out so it looks and feels good in the hand. If Samsung had been competing with the German cameras 50 years ago, the whole photographic market might have...

Review of Samsung Vega 140 S Compact Camera

Konica - Minolta A1 experience

Advantages: reasonably light, great picture quality, long lens, anti-shake works well
Disadvantages: poor evf quality, slow shutter response

...This is a great camera, classed as a "prosumer" it falls between a full on digital SLR and a consumer digital snapper. It's ideal for someone who wants to move on from their first digital camera to something that gives more control over the end picture. Sensor The 5 mega pixel sensor is good for high quality A4 prints. The sensor also has an "anti shake" feature that really does work and I found gives you effectively one more stop. Lens The good quality 7x optical 28 - 200 mm (35mm equivalent) zoom lens allows the camera to be used for most type of work from indoors to sports activity. The only lens drawback I noticed was that its macro capability is somewhat restricted. Battery The battery last for ages, I never managed to run it down between charges. Exposure control I found the camera to have good accurate white...

Review Minolta Z2

Advantages: Infinately (well almost) settings, accurate settings, only for the keen photographers
Disadvantages: autofocus and metering inaccurate, not good for occasional snappers

...I bought a Minolta Z2 about 6 months ago. I have been an avid amateur photographer for years, done the photographic clubs etc, got bored with the expense of processing etc and I have always had Minolta cameras. But then the digital cameras came along and changed all that. There aint nothing wrong with Minolta?s reliability, but there?s certainly an air of cheapness of the finish when it comes to Konica, but times are hard, they?re squeezing more and more out of nothing and that costs nothing. But it seems to me that as Minolta are still in control of the upper markets (e.g. 7Hi). It looks like Konica have stamped their position on the lower end cameras, i.e. this one and its predecessors: Z1, Z10 blah, blah. The workings have definitely the stamp of Minolta, I just hope that the Konica haven?t compromised with the quality...
