An Icy Cathedral

Advantages: Interesting place of worship

...and the backs, so I could imagine dropping off to sleep would be possible, where as the Church of Scotland church I attend the hard upright pews are so uncomfortable you would have difficulty sleeping. The altar was quite plain and apart from the beautiful prism lamps representing ice there wasn't very much in the way of decorations. The cathedral is open June -mid August from 9am until 7pm and from mid August until May from 4 -6pm. There was an entrance fee but as we were on a trip it was included, I think it was about 30Krone, which is about £3. At the rear of the church a few booklets and postcards were on sale. I decided to use the toilets which were situated downstairs and discovered what it would have been like using the bunker, as you had to step over the metal frame where the huge door could seal off the outside area. Art Nouveau in Norway

...train which runs a few times a day for 2 months during the summer and takes just over an hour costing 120Norwegian Krone which is about £12.00 but it hadn?t started running when we visited. The air was clear and fresh and the town was clean and well cared for. Luckily we saw Ålesund in the dry but rain wasn?t far away and we just made it back before a snowstorm even in June! M&S Bureau De Change

Advantages: No Commission before and after, good exchange rates
Disadvantages: Slow for non-mainstream currencies

...I have recently been exchanging money for my upcoming trip to Iceland, and I reckon Marks and Spencer has the best deal around. I went to the York Parliament Street store, and although the Bureau De Change is in a dark corner of the top floor, it shouldn't be. No BDC has Icelandic Krone in ready supply, and it took M&S 5 days to get it which is more than most (Lloyds TSB took 3), but I certainly got the best deal. My friend paid a little under £50 and got 6500 Krone at Lloyds TSB. I paid a little over £50, and got 7000 Krone. So not only did I get a better exchange rate of £1/K134 to £1/K132, but M&S also have a better aftersale policy. If I don't spend all my Krone (which is hard to believe considering it is £6.50 per pint), they will buy it back commission free (notes only, no coins), which considering they didn't charge any...

City set in Seven Hills

Advantages: Plenty to do in small area, beautiful scenery

...and St Mary's church is the oldest building still in use, it is described as being one of the most outstanding Romanesque churches in Norway and the pulpit is a fine example of Baroque decorative art. Bergen castle is unusual in the fact that although built overlooking the harbour the guns were pointing down to the Hanseatic area of the town, keeping an eye on the Germans rather than out to sea! For 190 Krone about £19 it is possible to buy a 24 hour ticket or Bergen card which lets you travel free on buses and free entry into some Museums and discounts in other places. Like most places there are lots of touristy shops selling souvenirs, some are lovely handcrafts whilst other things are "tourist tat", but Norway is an expensive place and items made in Norway are pricey, especially the beautiful hand sewn embroidery called...

Controlling time has never been this boring

...Timeshift was released during the amazing Christmas line up last year and thanks to a pretty kick-ass demo available on Xbox live, the game made its way on to a lot of peoples Christmas lists featuring some pretty cool time control moves and the classic FPS format. -----The story----- It begins in the future at a research laboratory. This facility has been developing time controlling suits and has almost perfected them. Unfortunately a member of the team (Dr Aiden Krone) hijacks one of the suits, sets up a bomb and goes back in time so that with his futuristic armour and weaponry he will beable to control the world. You are able to grab the alternate suit just in time in an attempt to follow him, but when you find where you are, you are too late and Dr Krone is already all powerful and has turned the streets into a living nightmare...

...excellent since you don't have to negotiate all the airport roads before you reach the main roads. The GREAT thing about this hotel is that it's not that close to the airport. Have you ever had a room in a hotel near an airport and discovered your room's at the end of a runway at 0600hrs when the first flights pump their engines against your windows? I have. Quality Airport Hotel Gardermoen is 8 minutes by "flybus" to Gardermoen. The bus costs 60 Norwegian krones each way. It took me LESS THAN A MINUTE to get from my ground floor room to the bus top for the "flybus". Buses are frequent and with Gardermoen airport (OSL) being a well run, organised airport, as long as YOU are organised and use the electronic check in machines as you enter the terminal, you can drop of your luggage at the baggage drop and be checked in to fly 15 minutes...
