Top notch for your money
Advantages: Jumperless. Loads of features. Loads of BIOS settings to play with. Everything!
Disadvantages: Expensive to some
...Not only does this wonderful Socket A motherboard have loads of great features, it also comes in a rather nifty plastic covered box with rope handle!
The Epox 8KHA+ KT266/A has been the recipient of loads of positive reviews from top Internet Hardware sites since its release a short time ago. If you check the Epox website (http://www.epox.com) you will be able to read any of the reviews (unbiased!). My humble review will try to outline the main features of this board and be as non-techie as possible, but the professional reviews will go that bit further. OK, on with the review! ?..
Once you see the container box of the 8KHA+, you will have a fair idea of the sort of quality that is inside and you won?t be disappointed. The 8KHA+ is a top end board for those who wish to get the most out of their Socket A Athlons/Durons. The box...

A good mainboard
Advantages: Stable; not that expensive
Disadvantages: There a newer chip technologie
...First I have to apologize my English. Coming from the German Ciao I just thought about writing in English and so I?ll try it.
One of the most important part of a PC is the Mainboard (MB), because all informations has to pass it. So I was very unhappy, that I had problems with my new one at the beginning.
The MB has the old chip KT266A. Now the newer KT333 is already available. But I prefered to buy it, because it is a well developed one and the new KT333 is just 5%-10% quicker. Normal PC-User don?t notice that little more performance.
? ? ? A little bit about the Mainboard ? ? ?
The handbook is ok. It came in English *grin* but there is a German one available on www.epox .de. Ok, ok...*grin* The information in the book are ok. Detailled information what happens if you change things in the BIOS are not clearly made...

Sleek and sexy, oh, oh, baby
Advantages: 266 FSB, 4 IDE's, RAID, XP Athlons
Disadvantages: Wont make beer.
...SoA VIA KT266A ATX R
Sleek and sexy, oh, oh, baby.
Ah... though this isn’t just another motherboard. This is the motherboard I “want” to buy, this is the best low price motherboard available, it will let you use the most up to date RAM and some of the fastest chips around. It’s a sexy motherboard.
For anyone that doesn’t know what a motherboard is. It’s a big set of circuits and chip and it’s the backbone of your computer. Nothing works without it, everything uses it and it is the “Motherboard” of your computer. You will have some other “boards” in your computer, normally called cards. But this is the “mother” we are talking about.
What does the motherboard do? What doesn’t it do?

This is going to be technical so beware
Advantages: easy to use, VIA KT266A, DDR
Disadvantages: some parts of layout
...Just a little note here, I'm going to go into pretty good detail here and maybe slightly technical so sorry if I baffle you.
Well as some may know (probably not many), I have recently built myself a new PC. The first one I've ever built in fact, and thankfully and came off without a hitch (pity the second one ain't going so well). Anyway this is the motherboard that I choose as the basis for the system. It has all the features I could wish for (I will list them later), and is one of the cheapest boards to offer the best performance DDR chipset (in my opinion) the VIA KT266A. The chipset for those who don't know, I like to describe as a gateway between components. There is a Northbridge and a Southbridge, each controlling different things, but equally important. That's enough detail, I don't really understand much more about it myself...

If only more motherboards were designed like this
Advantages: Very stable DDR266 Motherboard.
Disadvantages: Nearly cold product being superseded by newer standards DDR333/ATA133/USB2/Firewire etc
...you expect to find in your run of the mill motherboard retail package.
If your in the computer trade the mainboard can supply some helpful trouble shooting facilities with the P80P which ill talk about more later.
Performance wise this computers exceeded my expectations repeatedly, which I attribute directly to the motherboard.
If your in the market for a DDR266 Solution with out the need for future performance gains this motherboard should be considered if stability, performance and PCI expansion are factors.
Another good reason is the P80P this will really appeal to technical guys like my self but could also be useful to a end user/first time builder.
It can detect the following useful things:
1 Bios chip reversed.
2 Incorrectly flashed bios
3 Mainboard problem
4 AGP/PCI incorrectly inserted.
5 CPU Problem
6 Memory...

Ultra Quick and Ultra Stable
Advantages: Quick, stable, some useful software tools
Disadvantages: No extra USB connectors, setting up jumpers is a pain
...In the ever increasing war between Intel and AMD, processor speeds have been incraesing at a rapid rate, but the speed of the processor is limited by the motherboard chipsets performance, meaning that for every new processor we are having to upgrade our motherboards.
For some time the SiS735 has been the best chipset for the AMD Athlon processor, until Via released an enhanced version of their KT266, calling it the KT266A. With this release they took back the crown for best performing chipset, for the Athlon processor.
As I had just bought a new Athlon XP1700, I decided to get a new board as well, and after hunting around a bit settled on the QDI Legend Kudoz 7 V2 (Version 1 was based on the KT266 and should be steered clear of). It comes with the usual accessories, floppy cable, IDE cable, driver CD and some free software. As well...

Simple to set up, great value board
Advantages: Great value Socket A board; good performance
Disadvantages: only 2 DIMM slots; these are awkwardly placed
...When shopping for parts for my new PC, the Abit KG7 was one of the cheapest boards that supports the fast DDR PC2100 RAM, and the AMD Athlon processor. While this was some time ago, I believe Abit have updated the board to accept the Athlon XP CPU and also DDR333 RAM. If not, it's still a great board. It's powered by the VIA KT266A chipset, widely regarded as one of the best Athlon chipsets, and Abit have made a very good implementation of this chipset.
DDR means "dual data rate" - this means that you can get 266MHz effective bus speed between CPU and memory from 133MHz overall bus speed. This board provides much better performance, therefore, than cheaper boards which don't have DDR technology. If you're looking at buying an Athlon motherboard at the moment, you should only be looking at DDR RAM, unless you're on a very tight...
