KV28FX20 A good all rounder.

Advantages: Good Picture, reasonable Sound.
Disadvantages: Relatively high price in comparison to other manufacturers

...Sony have always been a manufacturer who like to stay at the top of the market and the launch nearly 18 months ago of the FX20 in its current form merely confounds this. Incororating Sony's WEGA technology, the picture is exceptionally good for a "basic" 50hz television, and coupled with a DVD player the effect is simply stunning. The set is catered for in the sound department with a simple Nicam setup which although not particularly technologically advanced, is effective none the less. If you're really looking for a Pro-Logic set, Sony also manufacture the KV28FS20 which is identical in every way except that it has a Dolby Pro-Logic setup in preference to it's Nicam equivalent. In summary, the FX20 is a fantastic set, though if you can afford the 100hz set then you will obviously reap the benefits (the KV28FX60). If you're looking to...

Sony KV28LS60

Advantages: Excellant picture quality at an affordable price
Disadvantages: Takes up a lot of space compared to LCD or Plasma

...There are two versions of Sony's KV28LS range a 35 and 60. The only difference as far as I am aware is that the LS60 has a scanning rate of 100HZ, rather than the 50HZ of the 35. I purchased the LS60 approximately 18months which at the time cost just over £600, no doubt it has fallen in price since then. I opted for the LS60 because of the enhanced scanning rate and the difference in price was negligible. This is actually the second LS60 I have owned, when the first arrived two of the scart sockets did not work. However, within a week Comet had delivered a new TV which (touch wood) I have had no problems with. Additional point here, order from Comet's website rather than store for a significant discount, you retain the benefit of being able to go into a store if you have any problems but get a significant discount when ordering...

Great when the tide's coming in

Wonderful Widescreen

Advantages: Flatscreen, Widescreen, gorgeous picture, great sound
Disadvantages: It possibly doesn't do quite as much for films on TV as it does for DVD

...also an extended five year guarantee. My advice is to go in knowing roughly what you want, talk to someone and then go away and do a bit of internet research based on what you have seen. (It is also worth saying that some interference may be caused by the other televisions in store. When looking at the same model in a different John Lewis the picture quality was far inferior.) In my case it was a toss up between the Sony KV28LS36U (the 28 referring to the screen size), another Sony model and a Panasonic with digital Freeview television. Advantages: The Sony Badge, Superb Picture Quality
Disadvantages: Watching It Could Become Addictive, Not That Many Features

I have owned the particular model (WN28) in question last year and I can report that it was nice looking in its silver glory. Its picture quality was good and the only fault I could find with it was the remote control’s battery cover kept falling off. To try and find the best bargain around, I started my hunt through the empire direct website (which is where I bought the Sanyo), and finally moved to ebay which is where I ended up with the Sony. I paid £890.00 for the set, which came with a Free Sony DVD player and was £100 cheaper than the Sony Centre sale price. Art Couture over HD anyday!

Advantages: Timeless, beautiful design with gorgeous picture quality
Disadvantages: Heavy and chunky!!

...The Sony KV28FC60 is a Wega Widescreen (16:9) Pure flatscreen CRT television (100Hz). It was marketed under Sony's 'Art Couture' range and was at the time their top of the range television. I bought mine back in 1999 for £1275 and by todays standards is a little behind the technology but honestly I wouldn't dream of changing it for any of these new LCD, Plasma, HD models. The specs of it are still impressive, even for a 7 year old model; 100hz refresh rate, three scart sockets (one of which RGB compatible for amazing picture quality) and sockets to receive your camcorder. The look of the thing though is its real selling point. Its rounded metallic edges and chic glass shelves make it as sexy as any tele on the market today.
