Belkin 2-Port KVM Switch With Built-In Cabling
Advantages: Advantages: Cheap, all in one solution
Disadvantages: No manual overide or audio support
...stops autoscanning and lets you use the currently selected PC.
The Belkin claims support for scrolling mice but I did find sometimes one PC would start up without recognising this facility if it wasn't the currently selected one when booting up and in extreme cases, wouldn't recognise the keyboard and mouse at all. Previous KVM's I've used send the PC fake 'There's a keyboard and mouse here' messages when not selected and it seems this unit does not, which is a pity.
Conclusion
The Belkin 2 port KVM is a well built unit that works nicely and provides a great way to save desk space and the cost of a second monitor, keyboard and mouse. The long leads are useful and despite the niggles with scrolling mice and the lack of manual switch. I'd say this unit is worth considering at this price if you can live with those shortcomings...

Belkin 2-Port KVM Switch With Audio Support
Advantages: Cheap, all in one solution, audio support
Disadvantages: No manual overide
...It's surprising how many people have more than one PC at home although even more surprising is that many of them each have their own screen, keyboard and mouse.
In many cases this makes perfect sense but sometimes, you know you'll only ever use one or the other - perhaps one is your general PC and the other your music workstation. In these situations you can save a lot of space and money by investing in a KVM switch. KVM stands for Keyboard, Video and Mouse and allows you to use one keyboard, mouse and screen shared between two PCs.
This particular unit from Belkin is unusual in that it also includes audio support and also comes with all the leads permanently attached instead of being supplied as a separate cabling set.
Wiring it Up
Installation is simply a matter of taking each of the two main cables and plugging the sets...

Techie Toys
Advantages: Remote access even when rebooting
Disadvantages: Can't power down/up, terrible quality of image at times
...Sorry, I know this is a bit of an odd one and that most people probably won't have a clue as to what this thing is, or what it does, but I was bored and hadn't written a review in a while so I thought I would put my time to good use at work and write this op!
What is it?

The Avocent DSR 2010 is what's known as a digital KVM, or Keyboard, Video and Mouse. It's a black box, which is about 43cm long (Without mounting brackets, 48cm with them) into which you plug a mouse, monitor and keyboard. For the techies out there it's 1U. Along the front are 17 green lights and 17 orange lights and the name of the box (ASR 2010) to the far right. Nothing too exciting.
Round the back is a little more interesting, but no better looking.
Depending on the model you have bought you can have up to 16 ports in two rows. Each port...

Aten Masterview CS1774 KVM Switch
Advantages: Build quality, flexibility
Disadvantages: Too few USB ports, a bit pricy
...In a world where server virtualisation and remote login is becoming increasingly common, it's all too easy to forget the humble KVM (Keyboard/Video/Mouse) which allows a single keyboard, monitor and mouse to control two or more PCs. For home users with a number of PCs or small to medium sized businesses, there's still a need to control multiple machines from one place without cluttering the place up with all the related paraphernalia. Furthermore, KVMs remove some of the security risks that can arise when enabling remote access.
Here at home I have various PCs I use for testing, editing and so on so I was pleased to get my hands on a new 4 port KVM from Aten. The Masterview CS1774 is rather more than the basic units you might find at PC World though - it has a number of interesting and useful features over and above the basic ability...

At last,a low price KVM switch with a USB platform
Advantages: easdy to use,USB connections,up to 4 pc's
Disadvantages: not pretty,
...KVM switches are,i think, a very underrated component and are not often seen in use. This i think is because untill recently they relied on pretty much old tech as far as connections were concerned.
Just to make it clear at the start what a KVM dose for those not familier with them,a KVM switch performs the very useful function of alowing more than one computer to use the same keyboard, monitor, mouse, and sometimes(and in this case) speakers.
Be warned though,a KVM switch is simply an input/output switch it dose NOT link the pcs in any way, when one is on the others are off,no movement between computers just access between you and several pc's.
For those of us who need to use more than one PC on a regular basis this is a major bonus both in space saving and speed of use.
This belkin switch is a big step forward in KVM...

USB KVM that works best with PS/2 machines.
Advantages: Take 3 monitors, keyboards and mice off your desktop.
Disadvantages: Not recommended for newer (all USB) devices.
...Overall a frustrating experience with some machines and as a result cannot recommend this device, particularly when using newer machines.
I have a number of these devices and all exhibit the same problem, which suggests a common fault, in that some newer Dell machines do not seem to synchronise with this device when switched to.
Ironically, older machines (Dell GX150/260/270/280) work with this device without any problems, even though they are intended to have a PS/2 keyboard and mouse.
Newer machines, such as the GX620 and 745, which are all USB machines (no PS/2) have problems synchronising when switched to. There is no response from the keyboard and mouse on screen, although the keypresses to switch to another port on the KVM seem to work, yet if a USB keyboard and mouse are plugged in to the machine in question then...

Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec
Advantages: A great car from all angles
Disadvantages: Not as many extras included as I would have liked
...I am now the proud owner of a ford focus 1.6 zetec and for the first time in many years I have actually found a car that pretty muc suits all my needs.
I have spent many a time in cars that are too big, too small, not suitable, not comfortable etc but this is everything I could ask for.
I own the three door version but the doors open widely and when the front seat is moved forward there is plenty of room to get anyone in the back, even my mother in law who is disabled. The back of this car is extremely spacious, comfortably fitting 3 large adults in.
The boot size is deceiving in that it looks pretty small but is very spacious indeed. Perfect for all those shopping bags as well as a childs pushchair.
The actual drive of this car is superb. Mine runs on unleaded and is very economical. I can get over 200 miles to £35...

Port El Kantaoui
Advantages: Beautiful Beaches
Disadvantages: Mainly For Couples, Hassle From Local Shopkeekers
...Port El Kantaoui is a purpose built Holiday Resort on the Northern Coast of Tunisia in North Africa. It is situated just a few kilometres North of Sousse, Tunisia's second largest City after the Capital Tunis.
It was built in 1979 with a modern 300 Yacht capacity Marina as its focal point. In recent years this Marina has become a popular mooring location for the rich and famous undertaking their Mediterranean Cruises and the Marina here is said to rival those long established Marinas of Nice and Marbella on the Southern Coast of Europe. It is now also Tunisia's most popular Holiday Resort.
I stayed in Port El Kantaoui between the 2nd and 9th July 2006 and found the experience to be a rather interesting one. Since it was my first visit to Tunisia I was a little unsure of what to expect and as my Holiday approached I began to hear...

Ford Focus 1.6 - Shocking!!
Advantages: Handling and Looks
Disadvantages: Customer Service, Bodywork, Transmission...
...Two years ago I decided to buy a brand new car, and after much research I decided upon the Ford Focus 1.6 (old style now). Everything I had read pointed towards a really good choice. So I went into my local Ford dealer and a week later I had my nice new car.
First thoughts were a good looking car, well built, fantastically smooth to drive, held the roads amazingly well. All of the equipment worked wonderfully well and I absolutley loved my new car. Then the problems began....
After two weeks the Airbag Modulator failed, so I went back to the dealer, and they replaced the faulty part within a few days. They wouldn't let me have a courtesy cat so was left hanging around the dealers for a few hours. All work was under warranty so no cost to me.
Three weeks after the Modulator fault I was washing the car and noticed tiny rust spots...

Bon Vacances at Port Bourgenay
Advantages: Masses to do, something for everyone.
Disadvantages: Maybe a bit pricey in high season
...beyond our budget if it wasn't for the Clubcard vouchers that are worth four times their face value, but after much debate and research we plumped for Port Bourgenay, run by Pierre et Vacances, as it looked like it was in a perfect location, is close to the beach, and there seemed to be a lot to do. It cost somewhere in the region of £1000 for the accommodation (£250 in deals) for seven nights and £300 for the return ferry.
~*~ Location ~*~
We live in the south west, so a Portsmouth - Cherbourg crossing is ideal for us. We always get the earliest ferry (around 9am) so we arrive in France around 3pm which gives us plenty of time to drive to our accommodation and settle in by bed time. Or so I thought! This really wasn't the easiest place to find at all. We knew the main towns that we had to head towards: Rennes, Nantes, La...
