...two).Switching between pc's is just a keystoke and its quite strange at first to instantly move between one display/audio/input and another. This belkin switch is a big improvement on previous models but beware when buying,several Belkin KVM's have almost the same model numbers and names,make sure you get the USB model, as usual with Belkin old models hang around for ages especially when buying on line and you can easy end up with an old ps2 model some dealer is trying to off load to make way for the new style. This is not helped by the price structure,an old style switch can often come up at a hight price than the new one so take care. Bottom line is,as usual with Belkin the product will do what is says it will and in this case better than before,if you use more than one pc on a regular basis then this is a must have...

What I liked the most was the flexibility of the device. A frustration when switching from one PC to another is the fact that usually, this is a complete switch so if you're listening to music on one machine then change PCs, you lose the audio feed. The Aten unit however offers a better way of handling things. Whilst you can do a full switch, you can also switch just the things you want via various hotkey combinations. For instance, you could begin printing via USB from one machine, switch only the KVM functions and leave the printing to happily continue. ...has USB connections for the keyboard and mouse although Belkin do a range of KVM's so you can probably find a PS/2 equivelent if you have that sort of mouse/keyboard. The PS/2 models also include PS/2->USB adaptors so you'll also need those if you have a USB mouse and PS/2 keyboard. This particular model has no support for audio so if you need to also have your microphone and speakers switch from PC to PC, look elsewhere. The monitor, keyboard and mouse are then connected to the KVM to complete the set up. One bugbear is that like the vast majority of KVMs, this Belkin unit has cables going in one end and out the other making it difficult to place on a desktop without having cables hanging out everywhere. However, there is no reason why you can't just tuck it out the way out of sight as it has no parts you'd normally need to access...

USB KVM that works best with PS/2 machines.

Advantages: Take 3 monitors, keyboards and mice off your desktop.
Disadvantages: Not recommended for newer (all USB) devices.

...Overall a frustrating experience with some machines and as a result cannot recommend this device, particularly when using newer machines. I have a number of these devices and all exhibit the same problem, which suggests a common fault, in that some newer Dell machines do not seem to synchronise with this device when switched to. Ironically, older machines (Dell GX150/260/270/280) work with this device without any problems, even though they are intended to have a PS/2 keyboard and mouse. Newer machines, such as the GX620 and 745, which are all USB machines (no PS/2) have problems synchronising when switched to. There is no response from the keyboard and mouse on screen, although the keypresses to switch to another port on the KVM seem to work, yet if a USB keyboard and mouse are plugged in to the machine in question then...

I inherited an old Duron 800 from my daughter who is a teacher - she kept the monitor and the speakers and the mouse (I bought for Christmas!) and the strange keyboard that bends in 2. But it's a worker and I couldn't bear to see it go to waste. I saw this strange article in one of the PC Weeklies about KVM's and I thought, that will never work! but it sat at the back of my mind until the Duron turned up. KVM stands for Keyboard, Video, Mouse. The purpose of a KVM unit is to connect a single keyboard, monitor and mouse to a certain number of computers. The Switch2 just connects 2 computers to one keyboard, monitor and mouse. I believe they can be had for any number (16?) computers. How confusing can this be? (Oh and they are seriously expensive.) I understand that this game has other names but I don't know what they are. Switch is a unique game, in that it doesn't follow the whist or rummy format, nor is it a variation of poker or brag. Any number can play but if there will be more than about 8 players, an extra pack of cards must be used. Whether the extra pack of cards has the same design on the back as the first pack, is irrelevant. The speed of the game is such, that there shouldn't be time to work out the probability of a player holding a particular card, based on the difference in the back of the card. Belkin Wireless USB adaptor

Advantages: Simple to set up and use
Disadvantages: Software is not the greatest

...on the router, open up the Wireless software on your PC and select the encryption mode you are using and enter the pass key. I personally found the software that comes with the USB adapter to be less 'professional' than the software which came with the PCI card version. Saying that, it was still straightforward enough to complete this task with very little effort. --Useage-- I have had no problems with this adapter in all the time I have been using it. Occasionally the signal will drop down to a low level but it has never cut out completely. Once the initial setup has been done, there is no need to worry about the adapter, it will look after itself and connect to the router once it has been switched on. If you are experiencing a poor signal though, all you need do is to experiment by putting the adaper in different places. For best results...

...keyboard, monitor and mouse, then at £50 this is a good budget option. It's not the most ergonomic solution and, thanks to the location of the sockets and thickness of the cables, it will undoubtedly take up more desk space than you expect and leave you with a bit of a rats-nest of wiring. The other thing to watch out for is that it doesn't support the newer USB and DVI standards, nor does it switch audio. But taking it for what it is - a low-priced PS/2 KVM switch for Small Office / Home Office use it does a reasonably good job and for that it gets 4 stars....
