Disadvantages: Shoddy after sales, workmanship not always upto standard, maybe dishonest

...Kwik fit with their signs and glorious advertising 'you can't get better than a Kwik fit fitter'- you'd think well, I must give them a try, because one of the beauties of Kwik Fit is that they are literally everywhere, yes literally everywhere. Last count there were at least 600 of them around the country. An attractive proposition if your looking for a garage. Or is it? Kwit Fit, founded by Tom Farmer, and its first centre opened in Edinburgh in 1971. In 1999 it was bought by the Ford Motor Company for a cool £1bn only to be sold in 2002 to CVC Capital Partners and again in 2005 to the French company PAI Partners. Kwik Fit prides itself on customer service, you notice this on their flyers which reads 'customer satisfaction' but with satisfaction struck through and replaced by 'delight' above. Question is, how far is this true...

Haggle with Kwik Fit

Advantages: can get a good deal
Disadvantages: not always had a good reputation but now improving

...Needing a new tyre for our car I decided to telephone around to find the best and cheapest deal. You would think that this would be simple wouldn't you. You ring up and go to the one that has the deal for you.. No there is an art to this! Never presume that the place that was cheapest last time will be the cheapest this time. I ring around about 5 places - that is because in our nearest town there are only 5 places that sell tyres. Beware that a lot of times you will be told the cheapest price and then you will get that added sentence saying but they do not have them in stock at the moment. What you do do though is remember the lowest quote. You then telephone Kwik Fit and if they run their business like our local one does the first question they will ask is "what is the cheapest quote you have had". Now you do...

Advantages: local, fast friendly service, reasonable prices
Disadvantages: not all parts are held in stock

...which costs around £55 - these were the average prices I found while searching. I also looked up the cost of replacing the discs at the same time as I had absolutely no idea whether these would still be within specification (thickness). The average price for these was around £55 These prices are of course from parts suppliers and so are quite heavily discounted (by up to 40%) - I expected that I would have to pay at least 30% on top of these prices for the parts at a garage and then there would be labour on top so I guess the end price would be something over £200 if the whole lot had to be replaced. I rang around a few local garages before finally contacting the local Kwik Fit centre. I was attracted to Kwik Fit by a banner ad on their website which stated 'buy a set of brake pads from Kwik Fit and you will never have to buy...

...Kwik Fit Insurance???? They actually do insurance??? YES!!! I was previously with elephant.co.uk (check out my review of them) and decided to do a little bit of a shop around to find a deal and a deal I did find. After going on an insurance comparison site (moneysupermarket.com and confused.com) Kwik Fit came up as one of the cheapest insurance providers.... so I was quite surprised to find out they actually do insurance let alone a good price. I followed the link to the website and did a quote, and this was basically my deal... Fully comp, accident insurance, windscreen replacement, and PAYING MONTHLY INSTALLMENTS by direct debit (a big bonus) i was quoted £80 per month (im 21 in a high risk area with 1 years no claims so i dont expect a cheap deal!) but this was great compared to elephant.co.uk who after being with them...

...Stores Nation wide there are hundreads of Kwik save stores,and they have been around for longer than I can or care to remember. I live in Nottingham where we have several stores,one of which is 5 minutes away from me. The stores I have been in are all fairly well laid out,with plenty of room to negotiate the isles. Cleanliness appears however to be much more of a store to store thing,with some I have visited being spotless and others being nothing short of filthy. Most of their stores are in good general locations,near other shops and on good bus routes.The majority of stores also having their own generous car parks. Stock This is imediately where they start to fall down.Their range of stock is pretty limited.Tending to have only limited choice of brands and many foods,and hosehold consumables being totally absent...

...Hi, This is my MOT experience from a Kwik fit depot in Hitchin Herts. I had booked my Mot test online for a specific time and duly turned up early for the appointment. I left the car and keys with the person at the desk and returned 35 minutes later. To my amazement my car was still standing outside in the same position that I left it. I asked the person behind the desk if the car was done to which he replied no we haven't started it yet. "You know it takes an hour to do a MOT test" he said. In all my years of owning a car a MOT test has never taken anywhere near an hour. Anyway I said to the chap but you haven't even started it yet, and it was booked in for a test 35 minutes previously, if it takes an hour from now for a test, then in total my car would have to be here for an hour and thirty five minutes. Don't get me wrong, I love Pete Peugeot but I don't want to waste pennies giving him cosmetic surgery - the most I've spent on luxury for him was a yankee candle car freshener and that was pushing the boat out. Hence, I only spend money on him when absolutely vital to his continuing existence. Whilst at Crufts (read my lovely review - it passes time and may even help you sleep a little better) mother and I stayed at an Innkeepers Lodge (bloody brilliant place) about 5 miles from the NEC in Sheldon which is somewhere in the middle of the country. A Kwik trip around Kwik Save

Advantages: cheap prices
Disadvantages: staff, not enough check outs, some stores a bit grotty, no premium range

...Grocery shopping. It is boring but very very vital. I seem to have flitted about and flirted with most of the big and not so big names in supermarket shopping including Aldi, Asda, Iceland, Tesco, Sainsburys, Kwik Save and Safeways. This opinion is going to be on the much maligned Kwik Save. What is Kwik save? Kwik Save is a budget supermarket. I think they were or still are part of the Somerfield group. They are common throughout Britain. I have used Kwik Save in Dumfries, Bridge of Allen, Rusholme Manchester and our current one on Birchfields Road Manchester. Being a broke student I tend to divide my shopping trips between Asda and Kwik Save. There is an Iceland next door to our Kwik Save so that is another plus for going to this particular branch of Kwik Save. Today feeling particularly broke and not needing a lot...

Never buy tyres at Kwik-Fit Centres

Advantages: Fast, efficient service
Disadvantages: High price if not pre-ordered over the internet

...I made the mistake of taking my car in to a Kwik-Fit centre when I had a puncture before checking prices on their internet site. I had previously used Kwik-Fit centres for both servicing and tyres and always thought their service and pricing to be very competitive. The service I received was excellent with the operatives identifying the cause of the puncture and also identifying that two more of my tyres were close to the legal limit. I was told that the puncture was too close to the side wall of the tyre to allow it to be repaired so I agreed to have three new tyres fitted. Although the quoted price for the tyres at £167 each seemed to be quite high I assumed that the price of tyres has risen in the couple of years since I had last had some fitted. The fitting was carried out very speedily and I was on my way in less than 30 minutes. As...

Not Kwik Enough!!

...I booked my Ford Focus for an MOT and Interim Service. I was told the service would be done in the morning and the MOT at 3pm so I could collect at 4pm. I arrived just after 4pm and the car wasn't ready until gone 5pm. Why couldn't they pick up the 'phone and let me know to save me hanging around? I wasn't impressed with the service either - the windscreen washer fluid hadn't been topped-up; they hadn't spotted the battery had leaked acid onto the bodywork, and the front tyres had been over-inflated. So I wasn't impressed with the quality of their work and customer service leaves a lot to be desired. To rub salt into the wound, I got a call from Kwik-Fit the next day asking if I was happy with their service. I started to explain I wasn't and the conversation quickly moved on to the real purpose of the call...... to sell me car...
