5 * printer the Kyocera that goes on & on & on
Advantages: Fast, Reliable, Easy to Feed paper
Disadvantages: It doesnt fit into standard computer desks,
...After my negative last printer review, I?ve decided to review another of our collection. The Kyocera FS 680 is my personal favourite. Which is a strange thing to admit under the circumstances!! About a year ago while in the process of finding new printers my boss suggested this one, to which I recalled what the hell is the point in buying it?We need A3 minimum and definitely something capable of printing colour. My boss inevitably ignored my comments and headed straight out to purchase this.
Incredibly this printer has since become a god send. Although only able to print A4 and black and white, this printer consistently chugs away day after day without a glitch. Before I launch into a buy now buy now speech I?ll tell you the features of the printer and let you decide!
Compatibility:
This printer as with most is compatible...

Kyocera FS 5030N, brilliant color laser
Advantages: Very reliable, low cost per page
Disadvantages: None
...I bought first Kyocera FS 5030N for my company at February 2007. After six months we own another four of those. It shows how satisfied I am with quality of that product.
First quick description.
It's medium speed (24 pages per minute), color (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, blacK), laser printer with network interface (letter N on the end of a product name). It prints with same speed for B/W and color documents. Maximum print resolution is 600x600dpi.
It warms up in 80sec from power on, time to first page is 12sec. Inside sits processor PowerPC 750FX/600MHz with 128MB RAM, expandable to 1024MB.
It has smallest footprint (35x47x39cm) in its class. Offers very easy access to toners and waste toner tank. Each toner stands for printing 8k pages (in lab conditions of course, in real those numbers highly depends on average page coverage), which...

Kyocera Finecam S4
Advantages: Small, compact and robust. Good battery life when new.
Disadvantages: Slow to write images to disk, short battery life after prolonged use
...We bought the Kyocera S4 about 3 years ago after doing a lot of research into camera. Not being keen photographers, we wanted a camera that was easy to use but that took good quality photos.
At first we were very pleased with the S4. The picture quality is great and at 4 mp the files are reasonable sized. The 16mb card that came with the camera had to be replaced as at "fine" quality we could fit about 10 photo's on there. We bought a 256mb and can fit about 80 photo's on.
The battery is a rechargeable one and this is one of the reasons to buy the camera. We had previously bought a Pentax camera and were very disappointed at how quickly we were going through AA batteries. The S4 had a quick recharge time and long life, enabling you to fill the memory card before needing a recharge, however 3 years on and the battery last...

Kyocera Finecam S5 1 year on
Advantages: Picture Quality, Ease of Use, Small Size
Disadvantages: Auto Focus in Dim light, Slow to write to memory
...Bought the camera just over a year ago when my wife gave birth to twins. I was a keen photographer, but always on film before as I felt digital still had some way to go.
The Kyocera has a 5MP resolution and gives truly staggering picutres for a camera of this size. I would say that the results are comparable to 35mm film at sizes up to 10x8 inches and far superior to my APS canon IXUS, which I no longer use, in fact I no longer use film!!
Crisp Pictures with excellent colour rendition, low noise and good quality. The camera has a range of compression and resolution options, but with memory prices coming down, I take everything at the best possible quality. I have had no problems with the battery life or general reliability/operation of the camera.
Build quality is extremely good, but you would expect that from the same company...

A diamond in a sea of cubic zirconia
Advantages: quick, cheap
Disadvantages: none really
...with the installation, the website does have a section in it's help pages to assist you with the printer set-up.
--Price--
You can buy the FS1010 for about £200. It puts it down at the cheaper end of the Laser printer scale but the cheapness doesn?t hide a lack of quality.
--Cartridge Cost--
We can buy our cartridge (TK-17) for £46 from our supplier and according to the manufacturer it will last for about 5,000-6,000 sheets, which works out at an extremely cheap 0.0092p-0.007p per sheet. We use the printer mainly for producing very wordy letters which increases the ink usage and reduces the pages to about 3,000 per cartridge (0.015p per sheet).
--Online Support--
Kyocera has a very comprehensive UK-based website which provides a lot of information on each of their products, including where to buy, cartridge costs etc. It has a support helpdesk...

A good all rounder for B&W printing
Advantages: Quick, Cheap
Disadvantages: Not the best printout
...I had always owned expensive to run colour inkjet printers, but noticed that the majority of my printing needs were just black and white. The time had come to buy a laser printer.
I had used Kyocera Mita printers for a number of years at work and was aware of their cheap running costs, mainly because the ceramic drum has a life of around 150000 pages, thus making it effectively a fixed part of the printer. I fully expect to buy a new one when the drum itself fails. Due to this long life drum the toner cartridges are cheap (about £45 each with a life of around 4-5000 pages).
The quality of print from this printer is average and at a resolution of 600dpi. It is certainly good enough for nearly all basic usage. Printing pictures is not recommended though because the printer does show some banding across the page. Personally I run...

Very good printer (when it works).
Advantages: Good value for money. Quality output. Fast.
Disadvantages: The paper tray jams. Not very user friendly.
...is perfectly fine!
A small green plastic thing popped out of the back of the paper tray yesterday, and I can't seem to get it back in. This may have something to do with its poor performance, but it is a brand-new printer, only a few weeks old and never worked very well from the start!
The printer seems to jam most frequently when I try to print labels or envelopes. The envelope feeder tray is also fiddly to use and this is down to the lack of generally decent build quality. I know this is a cheap printer, but Kyocera seem to have cut too many corners in its design to keep the price down.
I can't comment on manufacturer support, as we use this in an office enviorenment and this is done in-house. The repair man came today and confirmed what I thought - the paper jam is due to a design fault and the little green thing was critical...

Light camera can take great shots but has flaws
Advantages: Light and small, exceptional video mode, fully featured
Disadvantages: Poor lighting means poor images, minor physical flaws
...The Kyocera Finecam S5R is a fantastic little bundle. It is a small, light, robust and fully featured SLR digital camera designed to be useful for everyone, from the casual snap-shot taker to someone interested in artistic photography. It has only a few flaws that set it behind other models, but this is entirely compensated for the fantastic low price of the camera. A great deal for anyone.
When originally marketed, the Finecam was the world's smallest and lightest digital camera. The camera's lens retracts into the main body when it is off so that the object remains as small as possible, but when in photo-shooting mode the lens smoothly extends. Likewise the flash only pops up when it is to be used, otherwise remaining tucked into the main shell. It is definitely light, but perhaps no longer the smallest; nevertheless it fits snugly...

Finecam S4 - Problems Overshadow The Quality
Advantages: Good image quality, small and light.
Disadvantages: Battery life, pop up flash, shutter lag and memory card size.
...I bought the Kyocera Finecam S4 in November 2003. It was my first digital camera and being my son was due to be born soon I thought it should be a good quality one.
After looking around to see what I could get for around £250, I found the Finecam S4 on offer. I liked the look of it so decided that I would give it a try after being told that it took very good quality pictures. So what do you get in the box:
The 4 Megapixel Finecam S4 Camera
16MB Panasonic Secure Digital (SD) Card
BP-900S Li-ion rechargeable battery
AC Adapter / Charger
USB and Video cables
Wrist strap
Pixela ImageMixer software
Manual and Quick start guide
The camera itself falls into the category of 'micro camera'. It measures just 3.8 x 2.2 x 1.2 inches and sits very easily in your hand. And if that wasn't enough it weighs in at a measly 175g. It is...
