Have some L'fun at L'Aquarium!

Advantages: Good selection of marine life, kids activities, an entertaining few hours, penguins!
Disadvantages: Quite pricey, can get crowded

...My last holiday abroad was to Barcelona, Spain. Whilst I was there I visited L'Aquarium Barcelona. L'Aquarium is situated in Port Vell which if you know Barcelona is near the end of Las Ramblas. It is next to Port Vell shopping centre, marina and seafront. There are good transport links to and from the aquarium which include buses, coaches and metro. The nearest metro station is Barceloneta. The building is large and has a colourful mosiac style wall alongside it. It is hard to miss. The ticket booth is opposite the main building. We paid 34 euros for 2 adults and our little girl was free because she was under 4. Ticket prices are 17 euros for adults, 12 euros for 4-12 year olds, 14 euros for over 60 year olds and free for under 4 year olds. I personally thought that it was particularly expensive and wouldn't expect to pay...

Swimming With The Fishes

Advantages: An interesting Aquarium with some very good displays
Disadvantages: Very pricey

...Over the last year or so Jenny and I have visited a number of different Zoos and Aquariums. So it seemed only right that while we were in Barcelona we decided to visit the local aquarium. I've been to Barcelona a few times before and while I had passed the aquarium a few times I'd never actually been in. So this time, on my 4th trip to the area we decided to pay it a visit as most of the attractions near our own resort of Lloret De Mar were closed. The Aquarium is located down by the sea front next to the Port Vell shopping Centre. All of the cities tourist buses stop at the Shopping centre next door making the Aquarium reasonably accessible. If, however you prefer to walk it is approximately 5 minutes from the bottom of Las Ramblas across the Port Vell bridge. There is a coach park right next door where a lot of coach trips to...

Review of L'Aquarium Barcelona

It's pretty but is it practical?

Advantages: unusual, magnifies the fish, visually attractive, good quality equipment
Disadvantages: fiddly to clean, small fish capacity, expensive add-ons

...as user-friendly as a conventional tank. That lovely globe shape means you have to access and clean the whole tank through a small circular hole in the top! If you have live plants, chunky decorations, a build-up of detritus (e.g. dead leaves) right down in the bottom - or even just large hands - you are going to be cursing your BiOrb come cleaning-out time. I find mine hard to clean and it is never as mess-free as I'd like. You will have to hoover and scrub the gravel/sides just as much as in any other aquarium, though the filter cartridge is nice and easy to change, and a lot of the fish poo etc obligingly collects underneath it to be syphoned up. The shape of the tank means there is less surface area than a usual 30L aquarium = less oxygen for your fish. The way around this is to leave the water level fairly low, but it still seems...

...Pets At Home Tropical Fish Review Store: Gateshead (Metro Centre) I have had an ongoing problem with pets at home, since i bought my aquart 60l aquarium with all the equipment and supplies (great i thought to myself). Got home set it all up by the book, waiting 2 weeks and took a sample to the store, they gave me the all clear to add fish, they became ill with white spot within a week, they changed the fish which to be fair, was kind of them and showed they cared about their customers. The above repeated about 3 times, in the end i rang up full of hell and told them this isnt good enough they asked me 2 bring water sample as expected and they explained there is nothing wrong, so few month later after more failing fish and expensive treatments used..... They explained how the filter i had got with the tank (and possibly heater...
