Lovely Hotel In The Heart Of Ambleside

The downstairs at the front used to be a tent showroom but I believe this is now the pool and spa center, you enter through the front door which is actually to the right hand side as you look at the building. The Public Areas ******************* Our dog was not allowed in these except to go up to the room and back outside and had to stay in the room, but I think any hotel allowing dogs will specify this, and I think it is a good thing really as the last thing you want when on a weekend break is a load of dogs barking at each other. A Fishy Day Out In The Lake District.

Advantages: Interesting and interactive displays, fab outdoor facilities, good ticket prices
Disadvantages: Can get a bit squished. Won't be able to spend the whole day here

...Even before you arrive at the hotel, you discover you can't fit down the steep alleyway to the 'car park', which has a severe lack of room and is virtually inaccessible by anything but a bicycle, even if you can squeeze through by folding the wing mirrors in, you have to inconvenience local traffic by having to turn several times to get in the gap. Upon entering the hotel (at the time of my trip, this was done by dodging scaffolding which was not at all used for the duration of my stay) you enter a disgustingly smokey pub, only to have to queue behind drinkers at the bar to be checked in, and you find yourself having to shout over the lager louts, loud music, and the football match on the large projector to be heard by the staff. There is no real check in area and payment for the room was made in the dining area, with no opportunity...

...Some Family friends were on holiday in the Lake District for a couple of weeks, they were staying in the Caravan park in one of the small towns nearby. The invited us over for a couple of days, however we couldn't get booked in at the caravan park as it was fully booked for mid week breaks! Why the Lake District is the place to go...

Advantages: Great mountains, great scenery...
Disadvantages: Rains quite a bit

.... The other great thing about the Lake District is that if it the weather isn't great for walking, and it isn't quite a lot, then there are numerous possibilities. Go rowing on Grasmere or Ullswater which both have boat hire and are well worth it. Keswick and Ambleside are pretty good for merry shoppers and the Toy Museum and The Big Sheep are very interesting - located near Cockermouth. I hear, and cannot pass on reliably, that Sellafield (the Nuclear Plant NW from the Lake District) makes a good day out too, but I'm not convinced. So go on, if you're looking for the perfect walking holiday then look no further than the Lake District, whether you're striding out across the mountains or sitting back drinking a cup of tea in Ambleside - this place will meet your expectations. ...to around 1,000,000 cafes. To be honest, the best one is at Grange, at the very top of Borrowdale - the Hot Chocolate and evening meals are fantastic. Also, Mayson's in Keswick has pretty spectacular food. And of course, I have already mentioned Mire House. That's not to say there aren't many good ones around - all of them do a mean HC. Where To Stay The Lake District has a wide range of accommodation for anyone. I'll start at the top and work down. The Swiss Lodore Hotel in Borrowdale is probably as near the top of the spectrum as you will get. Its a 4 star hotel, overlooking Derwentwater, with a swimming pool, squash courts, tennis, sauna and steam room. It also has a first class restaurant. ...Firstly, let me apologise for the terrible title, but I just couldn't resist. I had never visited the Lake District until Easter weekend when we decided to go away for a weekend camping. I have to say that I have been missing out. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever had the pleasure of visiting and the scenery is just breathtaking. We stayed at Ullswater in a quiet campsite called Cove. When I say quiet I mean it. There was no shop, no pub and to be honest it didn't matter at all. I probably had one of the best weekends ever and will definitely not take long in revisiting the Lakes. The Lake vyrnwy Hotel is situated in the heart of Mid Wales near the shropshire border of a town named oswetsry. High up on the rocks it sits over looking the lake and tower. It has some spectacular rooms including facilities to host a wedding with it's very own bridal suit. It has a lovely restaurant that over looks the lake and is beautiful to sit in on a summers night, the food in the restaurant is outstanding with friendly local staff waiting on( well worth a visit).
