...A lava lamp is, in principle, very simple. It consists of a lamp, which heats up a glass bulb filled with a waxy solid and a liquid. These cannot mix together and must have very similar densities. As the solid heats up, its density is lowered, so it rises. This cools it down and it then falls to the bottom of the lamp, creating a strangely soothing effect. In practice, making one yourself would involve messing about with expensive and perhaps flammable chemicals, so I wouldn't bother trying. It is much easier just to buy one yourself. I LOVE LAMP!

Advantages: Hilarious, quotable script and great performances
Disadvantages: A bit weird and silly for some

The film starts off as a standard 70s pastiche with some nice one-liners, but by the end it's an all-out comedy which rivals any in terms of the jokes-to-laughs ratio - a very important factor. The funniest character is not actually Burgundy, but in fact the scene stealing Steve Carell as Brick, the weather guy. People like him because he's "polite and rarely late", and he comes out with some of the funniest and most random lines, such as "I ate a big red candle", "I love lamp" and "Where'd you get those suits, the toilet store?". Carell is one of my favourite comic actors, and he's without doubt the best thing about this film. ...I have had the Jellephish Mood Lamp on my desk for the past 6 months and the novelty of this mood lamp doesn't wear off after the first couple of weeks. From the box, the lamp is a little tricky to set up, mostly because you have to fiddle with getting the cable through the center whilst lining up the glass levels, although you don't need to set the lamp up, you can just use it as a night light style lamp and put it on a wall with just the top lamp section, its up to you. After I had finished setting up the lamp I noticed that it was a little wobbly because the cable was twisting and wasn't flat, so before setting it up I recommend that you straighten and flatten the cable as best you can, else you should be careful with it. The remote control uses 2 AAA batteries (included), it has a rubber feel to it and is comfortable to use...
