I love my Lanos !

Advantages: Sporty design
Disadvantages: alarm costs extra

...I am the proud owner of a Daewoo Lanos 1.6 auto and I have never had so many compliments about a car!! I bought it new in March 2000 and I believe it is a fabulous car. It has a sporty shape and metalic paint as standard - mine is an unusual Evergreen, and everyone (male & female) tells me they love the colour! It is a dream to drive - very smooth and very nippy. It is easy to park and ok on petrol. Of course the Daewoo deal is excellent. I did have to pay extra for an alarm, which I feel is a necessity. I think this is an excellent car for you if you care about your image. It looks good, handles well and is very good value for money....

A Daewoo for Me.

Advantages: reasonable price, only insurance and road tax to pay after the first year.
Disadvantages: Insurance and road tax only included for first year

Easy Way to Buy A New Car

Advantages: Free servicing, small deposit, excellent city car
Disadvantages: Arranging your own insurance for courtesy cars

...After much hunting around used car dealers and enquiries about car loans, I spotted an ad in the paper advertising the new Daewoo Matiz and the excellent deals that Daewoo offer. So, my husband and I went along to our nearest outlet and found the staff to be extremely helpful. We were taken for a test drive in the Matiz, and once we started to look at the prices of the Lanos, we asked to test drive it too. It only took us 24 hours to make up our minds to buy one, and we went back and placed our order the next day. Deposits can be as little or as much as you want, ours was only £700, and we're paying a monthly sum for 3 years and then either continuing with the balance, paying off a lump sum or handing the car back and starting with a brand new one again. Oh Dear!

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Terrible build quality. Awful customer service.

...I have had a Lanos 1.4 SE for just under 3 years now on a Motability contract. Thank heavens I didn't use my own money to pay for it! I have driven cars for 30 years and this is the worst vehicle I have ever owned! The average fuel consumption (reasonable mix of urban and long range driving) is around 20 to the gallon! The ABS works when it feels like it and has an interesting habit of releasing the brakes entirely if an emergency stop is attempted. The carpets in the car split after 7 days and I was informed by Daewoo that this was driver abuse (after a WEEK?!!)The syteering pulls to the left and always has but my local Daewoo agent has no facilities to check this, a check requires a 130 mile round trip! All in all, to paraphrase the company's own advertising. Have another Lanos? That will be the Daewoo!!...

The Rover 216 in Disguise

Advantages: Price, Service agreement, reliability

...We bought our Daewoo Lanos last year and haven't looked back. If you put it side by side with a Rover 216 then you would be hard pushed to tell the difference. Ok so Daewoo aren't oozing with Street Cred but this little car has loads to offer and unlike the Rover 216 the engine and gearbox won't fall apart. I did have reservations of buying one as they have a bit of an OAP's reputation and I am only 26 years old. Also my husband is 6'5" so I was a bit concerned about the drivers space but we found that the Lanos has the same cabin space as our old Citroen BX which is a much larger car. But I am still able to pull away quicker than escorts/boy racer cars. It is fun to see their look of astonishment. We bought our Daewoo used but still got the remainder of the manufacturers warranty and membership to the AA. The prices are...

A Car for Worry-Free Motoring

Advantages: Cheap to run, reliable, comfortable
Disadvantages: Stereo is not great - eats lots of tapes!

...I bought my Daewoo Lanos in April 2003 after finally trading in my unreliable and frankly dying Peugeot 205. I was looking for a car that would not let me down - would start every morning, not overheat in traffic jams and not cover me with water from leaky windows and sunroof. (Ah, such fond memories of my old Peugeot!) I was lucky enough to find a V Reg Lanos 1.4 for £3000 (with part-exchange for my old car). I was amazed that I could afford such a relatively new car for the money as well as one with so many safety features and extras (ABS brakes, double airbags, power steering). The car is not the most stylish of vehicles, but it is not as boxy as some of the cars on the road although it does have a huge bonnet which makes it look a little Pinochio-like. No frills reliable transport

...I've owned our Lanos for just under three years now, and apart from the fact that people keep driving into it we can't fault it. If you're looking for a high spec, performance car - this isn't it. What it is is good honest 'old fashioned' reliable transport. There's room enough for four adults (or five smaller ones). The hatch is pretty spacious. My only gripe is perhaps the road & wind noise which is greater than one expects in this day & age. Economy is great - around town we seem to be getting about 35 mpg. Where Daewoo do score over other dealers is in the servicing package, which is included in the purchase price, and apart from a most unpleasant receptionist at our local centre, I can't fault them....

Daewoo's and Drums

Advantages: Great, reliable and economic car
Disadvantages: No longer in production

...Yeah, the daewoo Lanos is a great small car.... ....or so you think. You see these cars aren't actually that small. I've had mine since 1999 and it is still serving me well. I am a musician, and a percussionist at that, so I have racked up about 50,000 to and from gigs in the last 3 years. However, I have never had to utilise the tow bracket on my daewoo. Why? Because everything fits in just fine. Admittedly things would be a little more difficult if you had the 3 door rather than the 5 but they are spacious cars. Just for an extreme example, I have had My Drum Kit (Bass drum, snare, 2 toms, cymbals and hardware box), 2 tour timps, a xylophone, a vibraphone and a glock in my daewoo, AT THE SAME TIME!. OK so there was not an inch of space left but it all went in and got me to the gig safely. These cars aren't being made new any...

Cheap and cheerful with room in the boot!

Advantages: Nice quiet engine

...As you can probably imagine, I don't own a Daewoo Lanos 1.5 as I am only 14/15, however my dad does and as I am usually the only person to go in the car with him I thought I'd write an opinion on it. Firstly, it seems a very small and compact car with not much room, yes it is, but don't all good things come in small packages? It is very misleading as you can get a lot of stuff into the boot and there is even more room if you pull down the back seats. My dad and I managed to get a whopping 6 octave electric keyboard and stand in it! (for those of you who aren't musically educated 6 octaves is about 2 metres lengthways approx.)Also we are about to go to Kenya for 2 weeks so you can iamgine how much luggage space we are going to need and the Daewoo Lanos suits it perfectly. ..."Breaking the Barriers to Desire" is a book on the theory and practice of a strangely ignored subject in western society - non-monogamy. Subjects like this can easily dissolve into Cosmopolitan-style titillation but fortunately Lano and Parry seem to have avoided this. The book is concerned only with responsible non-monogamy, ie where all those concerned agree, rather than the standard practice of "having an affair". It is divided into two sections on theory and practice (rather silly in a book that keeps complaining about dichotomies) and it goes without saying that the "practice" section is the more valuable; personal accounts of how responsible non-monogamy has worked, and not worked, in reality.
